Présentation de l'éditeur

Stirring the flames of age-old controversies, The Eighth Scroll by Laurence B. Brown draws on the three Abrahamic faiths of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam to create an unbelievably dynamic and powerful story. Set in a world that teeters between orthodoxy and heresy, this thriller is packed with intrigue and adventure. When a Roman Catholic scholar involved in the Dead Sea Scrolls Project hides one of the scrolls because of the heretical message it contains, no one is the wiser until decades later, when a prominent archeologist discovers reference to the scroll in an archeological dig. This discovery spurs the world religions into a dangerous game of cat and mouse, in which all who seek the hidden scroll are mysteriously silenced, leaving the salvation of humankind to a father and son, who must either find the hidden scroll . . . or die trying.

The Eighth Scroll is a great book in that nice message it brings: the message of a universal love and brotherhood between religions. Here, Religion History presents herself in a very modern scientific and then objective frame. The Eighth Scroll shows how sincerity can remove spontaneously any barrier between men with different confessions. I like this book and wish to watch it in a scenario film.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Probably the best novel I've ever read... 13 janvier 2010
Par Anne Carroll - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché|Achat vérifié
At first I thought perhaps my fascination with and enjoyment of The Eighth Scroll was prejudiced by my recent immersion into Lawrence Brown's captivating style when I read his non-fiction books Misgod-ed and God-ed. After finishing Dr. Brown's first novel (anxiously awaiting more...), I read a New York Times Best Seller in a similar genre by a widely acclaimed author who has seen several of his novels made into popular action movies, and was somewhat surprised to discover it paled in comparison to the intrigue, character development, plot consistency and credibility, and... yes, writing style that I enjoyed in The Eighth Scroll. Then, while being entertained, I was also learning, as Dr. Brown weaves some very interesting historical facts into his fictional story. The plot centers around a purported Dead Sea scroll, the contents of which would provide conclusive support to other extant evidence that undermines commonly espoused but controversial versions of the life and mission of Jesus Christ. A surprising collection of individuals and groups would, and do, kill to gain control of the scroll, and the reader is kept on edge as the plot develops to its exciting climax. Speaking of which, it is also very refreshing to know there is an author who can include romance in his works without feeling compelled to appeal to assumedly deprived readers' desire for graphic descriptions of certain acts and anatomy. This book is exciting, entertaining, and laugh-out-loud funny throughout... and even if read only for those reasons, I truly believe that, as I did, all readers will discover they continue to think about it long after turning the last page.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A truely factual fiction 27 février 2010

The Eighth Scroll is a factual fiction, based on true accounts, presents factual information in a way that reads like a novel: a combination of storytelling and reporting. Intellectually challenging. Discusses Faith on a logical base. Connects dots or simply raises a fundamental point.
I was fascinated by the style, enormous and rich information. You will be certain the author had actually travelled and studied history , culture and scriptures. It is rather a scientific research review than a novel. I dug on wikipedia a lot - and still!.
Definitely a 5 star recommendation.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Better Than Da Vinci Code 5 août 2010
Par Bitsy Bling Books - Publié sur Amazon.com

The Eighth Scroll is an intelligent story that flows smoothly and reads quick without losing the value of its concept with weighty terms or overly academic hodgepodge. It mixes romance with adventure and explores the mysteries of religious history. It's not deeply reflective, but takes the reader on an alternative view and journey that leaves you wondering. It's a wonderful twist on the subject of the Dead Sea scrolls. Although this book has been grouped with the 'Da Vinci Code,' I believe it deserves much better company. First of all, the Eighth Scroll is superbly written and runs a course that is more easy to swallow than Dan Brown's 24-hour whirl wind of solving a historical mystery. If you didn't like the Da Vinci Code, you will love this book because it improves all the elements that the reader probably wished the other book contained. Now, if you liked the Da Vinci Code, you will love this book and realize this is how it should be done! It's a win, win, so pick it up and read it!

The beginning of the book is a touch too reminiscent of Indiana Jones, but since I'm a fan of those films, I went with it, and even enjoyed the comparison. However, I wish the author would have used a different name for the professor. "Tomes" was just too close to "Jones" and it felt kind of commercial and cheapened the richness of the plot. However, this was short-lived and after a few pages I was swept away and thoroughly involved in the story.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 DaVinci Code move over! 13 juillet 2010

If you are a fan of The DaVinci code, you will absolutely love this book! Author Dr. Laurence B. Brown weaves a credible tale in The Eighth Scroll, perhaps even better then The DaVinci Code plot.

The characters all felt real to me and I enjoyed reading about their convoluted lives. The plot, the narrative, the dialogue were all genuine mixes of history and theology. Entertainment with theology is a great way to learn. However, far from truth we will never know, but it does make for great entertainment. Like its predecessor, The DaVinci Code, the author uses old scriptures or old rumors to expound upon beliefs that challenge the modern mainstream church today, especially Catholicism.

The Dead Sea Scrolls are used as tools of historical truth which contradicts many teachings and the author elaborates upon that premise.

I found it entertaining. I found the writing quality superb and interesting. However, I would not clutch to the book as fact or historical documentation. It is what it is, entertainment.

I recommend the book for anyone interested in the dead Sea Scrolls and The Da Vinci Coe as well as anyone who loves a good mystery.

Dr Brown's novel, the "eighth scroll", is a powerful religious thriller that is loaded with adventure and charm. This was my introduction to Dr Brown's works, now I'm hooked. I highly recommend this book, and cant wait to read his others.
