For those with an interest in different aspects of World War II, this would be a good beginner reference book for them (as I read some of the items, I found myself going to the internet or other books I own to read more or confirm what the author said). However, I do have three complaints. First; for a book about World War II, it seems to spend a lot of time telling about what happened to certain people after the war ended as far as spying goes. Secondly; it is not consistent in telling the fate of some of the people during the war and almost contradicts itself a few times. Finally; the author or editor should be reprimanded for the number of mispelled words, words out of context or flat out missing in the text, plus the lack of historial accuracy in more than a number of the entrees (i.e. "On November 1, 1943, the Japanese liner Taiyo Maru arrived in Honolulu. What made this sailing different was the fact that the ship took the exact route that the attacking Japanese fleet would make in a month's time"). It should have been 1941. It is this type sloppiness that got me to quesitoning the accuracy of the facts the author used in his text.

Peter Kross has done an extraordinary job of compiling information on World War II spies in an easy-to-use, alphabetically listed compendium of cover intelligence operatives and projects. Kross previously contributed a book entitled Spies, Traitors and Moles for IllumiNet Press, and has lone been known as an activist in the info-underground to make sure people get their facts straight. The book is not encyclopedia size at all, but comprehensive. Consider it a necessary almanac of good information on spy history.
