Présentation de l'éditeur

Since Robin Hobb’s debut novel took the fantasy world by storm, the adventures of her beloved assassin FitzChivalry Farseer have spawned a sweeping epic that spans more than a dozen books—and counting. Discover the phenomenon from the beginning with this eBook bundle of the original trilogy:
Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father’s gruff stableman. He is treated as an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him secretly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz’s blood runs the magic Skill—and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family.
As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 is still a good read, a page-turner 1 août 2014

The Farseertrilogi, that I have been re-reading about 25 years after it was first published ,is still a good read , a page-turner. It's the best introduction to the world of Robin Hobb aka Meagan Lindholm You follow The Six Duchies and Fitz Chivalry from childhood to old age and you are introduced tö characters and places that makes you wonder what happens next. I believ it can interest young teenagers as well as grown-ups since the stories can be understood on different levels. I remember how happy I was when the Fool's trilogy was pubished and the story re-opend , how eagerly I awaited the last book that actually ends the History of The Six Duchies. You would probably want to know about the neigbouring countries- Chalced, Bingtown and the Rain forest, Live ships and Dragons- i. e 9 more books to enjoy, seperatly or as follow-up in Robin Hobb's world .
The story keeps you interested although some of the scenes could be shortend esp in Farseer II which accounts for 4 stars instead of 5. I envy you who still have the experience of the following 9 books to look forward to.These stories have the same lure that JR Tolkiens Ring-trilogy had when I first read in in the early 70'ies. A Good Read!

***This is vague for anyone who hasn't read it but I wanted to keep this spoiler free***

The first two books are fantastic as Hobb immediately brings you into the Bastard's world with a fitting first person narrative that extends from boyhood into young adulthood. However, by the third book Hobb's character evolution of Fitz stagnates, particularly in the second half of the novel. He becomes a whining boy trapped in self-pitch and wallowing over things that should have been understood and reconciled as he matured. I had no patience for it and had to skip most of this until the final 10% of the book where the plot finally moves on (but not without Fitz still crying all the time). Sadly his self pity has nothing to do with the overall outcome of the novel or it's plot line, so it's a big time suck. However the ending reconciles things and meets the strong story crafted in the first two novels.

I want to like these books. The characters are likeable, but the plot just plods along. Almost nothing of note is resolved and the main character refrains from taking any responsibility for his actions until mid-way through the third book.

I felt this book had a lot of points in which the description of the environment just really bogged everything down. And I felt there was unfinished business.

I loved this trilogy! Its been since the early '80's (thru The Belgariad by David Eddings) that I have chanced to read such an enchanting saga with rich magic and fantasy characters.

The magic is of a new -type, two main types of magic but with the feel of a gritty King Author's court and the intrigues of such. The people are all too human with the drama that comes with that territory. Magic, animal bonds, kings n queens, fools n assassins, prophets n dragons and acient races etc. I love how Robin Hobb has made common a role reversal, or rather an acceptance of both genders performing whatever work they were good at: women weapons masters and men weavers for example. This is a complete trilogy with a very satisfying ending and with twists and turns that 'keep you guessing' on the who-dunnits in the intrigue. Just when you think you got it figured out - you'll get more info that will change your mind.

I will be getting the rest of her novels! Superb writing and storey-telling! Well worth the cost.
