Présentation de l'éditeur

For two women, Ted Bundy, America's most notorious serial killer is the ultimate obsession. One is a cop whose sister may have been one of Bundy's victims. The other is a deranged groupie who corresponded with Bundy in prison - and raised her son to finish what he started. To charm and seduce innocent girls. To kidnap and brutalize more women than any serial killer in history.

And to lure one obsessed cop into a trap as sick and demented as Bundy himself...

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Another great mystery-suspense-thriller from Mr. Olsen. 24 décembre 2012
Par The Book Diva Reads - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Poche
Grace Alexander is a Tacoma, Washington police detective. She's married to an FBI agent. She also grew up in the shadow of an older sister she never knew. An older sister her parents are sure was a victim of Ted Bundy. Most children grow up hearing stories about family members and gazing at family pictures. Grace grew up hearing stories about a notorious serial killer and being quizzed on his life. Grace wasn't abused or unloved, but she knew that her parents' primary focus was on her missing sister Tricia. Now that Grace is a police officer, she knows that she must always try to bring some closure to her mother and find out what exactly happened to Tricia.

Ted Bundy is dead but his legacy lives on in more ways than can be believed. Grace and her partner, Paul Bateman, are currently investigating the disappearance of several young girls from the Tacoma area. When the body of one missing girl is found on a beach, presumed to be a drowning, remains of another girl are also uncovered. These remains are older but not ancient and just may be the remains of a presumed Bundy victim.

Fear Collector is a story that provides multiple stories that are deftly woven into one master picture of horror. One story is of Grace and her mother and their search for definitive information on Tricia's disappearance. Another facet of this story is Grace and her job, specifically the investigation into the missing girls -- all remarkably similar in looks. Then there's the story of Emma Rose, one of the missing girls, as she struggles to survive in captivity. Seemingly minor stories include those of a real estate developer and his son, an aging professor that knew Tricia, a retired police detective and expert on Bundy, and an obviously delusional woman and her ties to Bundy and Tricia. Just when you think you know where the story is going, there's a twist that pulls you off into what appears to be another direction. Mr. Olsen kept me on the edge of my seat, constantly wondering is this bit of information important in solving the serial killer mystery or is it simply another piece to the puzzle, if so which puzzle. Fear Collector is a story that literally grabbed me from the first few pages until the very end . . . and what an end! If you enjoy mystery-suspense-thriller reads, then this is one book you want to read.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Truly Gripping Thriller! 15 février 2013
Par Stephanie Ward - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Poche
'Fear Collector' is a truly gripping thriller that had me turning pages as fast as I could. The plot was fast paced and the multiple story lines were effortlessly woven together to form an interconnected web of fear and mystery. The writing style was smooth and detailed, clearly showing Olsen's talent as a seasoned writer. The characters were each unique and held my interest raptly in each of their stories throughout the novel. I thought the way that each layer of the various character's tales were mixed together showed a level of attention not found easily in fiction these days. The story itself was supremely twisted and dark, following several different character's obsession with the serial killer Ted Bundy. The fact that Bundy was a real killer and the setting was consistent with his hunting grounds - only added to the fear that settled in my stomach as I read each page. This is a purely haunting thriller that will sink it's claws in you from the very first paragraph and won't let you go until you've read the last word. It's definitely the kind of story that stays with you in that nagging, creepy way in the back of your mind when you're alone in the dark of night. This definitely shouldn't be missed by fans of Olsen's other novels or for true fans of thrillers.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 FEAR COLLECTOR is Olsen's latest book and arguably his most terrifying 8 janvier 2013
Par Bookreporter - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Poche
Gregg Olsen is reliably terrifying. There is no other way to describe his work. Having honed his considerable writing chops in the true crime genre, he began concentrating on fiction, undoubtedly inspired by the truism that "if one can think of it, someone else has already done it." Olsen's novels, which deal almost exclusively with serial killers, are an annually anticipated gore fest that, fortunately for the discerning reader, are equally balanced with sharp plotting and --- as one might expect from the topic --- unforgettable and over-the-top characters.

FEAR COLLECTOR is Olsen's latest book and arguably his most terrifying, primarily because it slides into and out of the real world to a degree that none of his other works of fiction have. While many novels deal with the effects of a criminal act, or a series thereof, this one is all about the influence such actions occasion decades after the fact. Here Olsen uses Ted Bundy, contemporary America's most notorious serial killer, as his catalyst, to grand and frightening effect.

While Bundy is an ominous and posthumous shadow who casts darkness over the events in FEAR COLLECTOR from beginning to end, it is Tacoma police detective Grace Alexander who is the primary focus of the narrative. Grace's sister, Tricia, went missing during the apex of Bundy's strange and bizarre reign of terror. Grace had not even been born when Tricia disappeared, and Tricia's absence has affected nearly every moment of her upbringing as well as her relationship with her mother. While one of the best at what she does, Grace is also obsessed with her missing sister. And while Tricia was considered to be one of Bundy's victims --- an accusation that Bundy denied --- such was never conclusively proven.

When young women begin to go missing in the Tacoma area again --- and are later found, mutilated, in remote areas --- it seems as if Bundy has returned from the dead and resumed his inexplicably evil ways. Grace, of course, knows that Bundy's return is an impossibility; she races against an ever-ticking clock to bring the killer to justice in the hope that she might rescue the latest missing victim. There is also the possibility, though, that at last she might obtain the answer to the mystery of her sister's disappearance, providing some closure for her mother and herself. What Grace eventually discovers is that the present-day murders and Tricia's decades-old disappearance are indeed linked by an unexpected and dangerous individual who no one would expect otherwise.

Though a work of fiction, FEAR COLLECTOR is built upon the meticulous research that has become a trademark of Olsen's true crime works, and is all the more frightening for it. He continues to tap new veins from a familiar mine. And more is coming, if you had any doubt. The book also includes a generously-sized novelette entitled "The Bone Box," which features Birdy Waterman, a forensic expert who will figure in Olsen's future works. That inclusion gives readers two reasons to digest one great book.

I guess it is just me and I am promising to not read this author ever again. This was a mish mash about Ted Bundy and fictional people; it went back and forth without really advancing the story. Very tiring and frankly I don't think using Bundy in this book served any appreciable value. It was too long, and I have said this before about Mr. Olsen that his books I have read need some thorough editing. The mothers in this book are just disgusting. Hard to really like any of the characters. On the plus side, I really did enjoy the short story included at the end. It was short, sweet and well written.
