Présentation de l'éditeur

After Jamie and her brother, Brandon, accidentally discover a cave in the center of a mountain, they stumble upon one of the most beautiful rocks they have ever seen. Shortly after, they are attacked by a mysterious creature and, during their recovery, start to exhibit unexplainable symptoms. Those symptoms lead them to an ongoing, secret civil war against the last two remaining covens of a creature we only know to be myth. One of which wants to bring that secret out into the world of humans...
Little do they know, falling into that cave will spawn a chain of events leading Jamie and Brandon on a life changing journey. A journey filled with danger, excitement, love, betrayal, and finding one's true place in the world. Wherever that may be.

Overall this book was a boring read. I made my way through it eventually (the story livens up the farther you go). I found myself often annoyed with the book for a number of reasons. The excessive descriptions of all the men with "broad shoulders/chests" and running their hands through their hair immediately made me want to dump the book. The dialogue was often stilted and childishly written. The concept was fairly stereotypical: girl from the modern world finds out she's turning into a mythical creature and that there is a prophecy saying she's going to save the world. Parts of the narrative was over dramatic and I was reminded distinctly of ridiculous romantic preteen/young teen books, which admittedly is the audience. In addition, the main characters emotions didn't always make sense and were blown out of proportion to the situation on many occasions. On a positive note the book was more unique in some aspects (character turning into dragon rather than just meeting dragons, having dragon "gods" involved, and an interesting layout for the dragon coven.) I suppose it depends on your type of books. If you love books with fantasy aspects as well as excessive romance and love triangles this book may be for you. If you're looking for something with more complexity and emotional realism, you should probably look elsewhere.

I am usually wary of buying books that are an author's first, and/or don't have many reviews. However, the concept of The Foretelling: Quest of the Auras sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a try. I am so glad that I did! The book captured my interest from the very beginning. I found myself caring about the characters, and I stayed up late reading every night until I was finished. The book was a great first effort. There were a few minor errors - "passed" for "past", and the there-their-they're conundrum to name a few. However, they didn't happen often enough to impact the reading experience. As soon as I finished, I rushed to see if the sequel was available yet. Sadly, the answer was no, but I will continue to watch for it!

The Foretelling by Jessica Acosta

I acquired this e-book free from amazon and I can emphatically say that it was a delightful surprised wrapped in the fresh voice of a new talent.

Let me first warn that this book is best enjoyed on a kindle or in a kindle for PC app and not quite so friendly in the Chrome-book app that they have for it. I was test driving the chrome at the time and endured the jagged right margin with no indents and no spaces between paragraphs and there was often some confusion about where paragraphs ended. I checked later on my other two appliances and found it to be an affectation of the poorly written kindle program for the chrome. Let me also say that this should in no way reflect poorly on the author- in fact- it says a lot that I couldn't put this book down even with those problems on the chrome.

This is a sort of coming of age story. Jamie and her brother Brandon have recently left home and are trying to find their nitch in life. Brandon has his band and his band buddies, Jamie is not so fortunate as she only has the band by association. She's well organized but not yet focused on what she wants to do. So she helps out where she can with all the guys in the band and she is falling for one of them. Kyle is someone that she and her brother have known for a long time and she's becoming certain that she'd be comfortable with more than that as long as it doesn't mess with current friendships.

This story is a lot more than that though.

It's a story of changes and coming to understand ones own potential. It's a story of love, heart break, betrayal and growth. It's also a story of strange creatures and mystery.

It starts out a bit slow, but that won't put you off. It's a slowly peculating mystery where Jessica keeps the reader wondering just what's happening.

Brandon and Jamie start the story on a camping trip in the desert that goes just a bit awry when they wander into a deep cave where they both are injured and attacked by an unseen and deadly creature. Strange things begin to happen to them and it's only at about one third the way into the story that we discover a bit of what is going on. Trust me you won't want to put it down at least until you find out what that is.

Then when you do, you'll have to finish it because things get really interesting.

One of the amazing things about The Foretelling is how well the characters are portrayed. Not only did I easily identify with Jamie and Brandon and immediately feel a connection, but even some of the less likeable characters are still endearing enough to care about.

The story is a well woven and nicely paced tale that takes you from beginning to end and leaves you wanting to pick up the next book as soon as possible to find out what is going to happen.

Anyone who likes Anne McCaffery's Dragon stories will love this tale. I love mostly science fiction but the explanation and detail along with great narrative style were enough to keep me happy throughout.

I really can't express how much I love the world you're building here Jessica.

First of all I should say that at 54 years old I may not be the "typical" YA reader. I am an AVID reader of many types of genres. I find the YA genre refreshing to read because you get to actually enjoy the storyline without the unnecessary graphic "love" scenes. True to this genre, Jessica Acosta's "The Foretelling" delivered a wonderful storyline. The characters and settings were described with enough detail that you feel like you can actually visual them. I came to care deeply about Jamie and her family and friends. It only took me a day to read this book, (of course I did little else but READ all day long!). Luckily, just as the last pages of "The Foretelling" come to an end, "Yellow Horizon" is right there to continue the story.

I loved this book...The adventures and travels of the dragons was intriguing.
I would recommend this book to anyone with an imagination and an open mind...
It is a story for the young of heart, no matter what your age is.
