Présentation de l'éditeur

This new series provides an ideal platform to study chess openings. By continually challenging the reader to answer probing questions throughout the book, the Move by Move format greatly encourages the learning and practising of vital skills just as much as the traditional assimilation of opening knowledge. Carefully selected questions and answers are designed to keep you actively involved and allow you to monitor your progress as you learn. This is an excellent way to study any chess opening and at the same time improve your general chess skills and knowledge.

The Four Knights is an opening with a long and distinguished history. Despite its deceptively quiet appearance, it can lead to extremely sharp play – for example in the Belgrade Gambit – as well as more strategic battles in the main lines. In this book, Cyrus Lakdawala invites you to join him in examining the many different variations of the Four Knights. He shares his experience and knowledge, studies the typical plans and tactics for both sides, offers repertoire options and provides answers to all the key questions.

* Essential guidance and training in the Four Knights
* Also covers Three Knights and Anti-Petroff lines
* Utilizes an ideal approach to chess study

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Compelling, Enjoyable, and Informative 1 juillet 2012
Par Jeremy Silman - Publié sur Amazon.com
I got my review copy a couple days ago and, after spending the afternoon looking it over, I experienced a strange sensation: I retired from tournaments long ago, but Lakdawala's THE FOUR KNIGHTS made me want to quit my usual 1.d4, take up 1.e4 just so I could play the Four Knights, and leap into chess combat once again! Fortunately, thoughts of giving tournaments another go wisely subsided as sanity slowly returned.

The Four Knights is a quiet opening that often leads to positional situations, but can also take you down rather violent paths. A big bonus is that it's not nearly as theory intensive as many openings are. Also great is the fact that after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 White can avoid mainstream Petroff theory with 3.Nc3 when 3...Nc6 is, once again, our Four Knights, while the more aggressive 3...Bb4 (the Three Knights) is a bit better for White. Lakdawala covers all this in great detail. He also explores virtually everything black can throw at White after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3, and tosses in the Four Knights Scotch, the Belgrade Gambit, and much more.

As with all his opening books, his theory is up-to-the-second fresh and detailed, while his prose is calming, funny, very personal, and extremely informative. To be honest, after his books on 1...d6, the Caro-Kann, and the Four Knights, Cyrus Lakdawala has become one of my favorite chess authors. He's right up there with other top American writers like Donaldson and Watson. All I can say is, "Cyrus, write MORE stuff!"

4.0 étoiles sur 5 WARNING--FOR WHITE PLAYERS ONLY 5 septembre 2013
Par hsuclarklarry - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle|Achat vérifié
I like the question and answer format of this book but I wish I had this warning before I bought it; the book is written mainly for white players. I play the Alekhine Defense as black mainly because I get a Four Knights position about fifty percent of the time against white players that just don't want to push that e pawn--1 e4 Nf6 2 e5. The author of this book takes the fun position that our opponents will be booked up on the Ruy Lopez and we will torture them by playing the Four Knights. I agree but I'm doing this as black. Black players like me will need another Four Knights book to get complete coverage.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Simple but not Drawish 1 août 2013

I know lots of people say openings are drawish. There may be some truth to that but can you draw it. The truth of the matter is even the starting position the game is drawn if both players play perfectly. How many actually play perfectly.

This opening is a nice simple way to develop and learn the basics of opening principles. Also it is a good way to avoid the Petroff.

Just because Grandmasters say this is drawish or that is drawish. People who buy these books are usually not GMs.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 In my limited viewpoint, provided everything I was looking for in this opening. 31 janvier 2014

I play at about 1500 rating weakness, and a bought this book so that when I open the Petroff and white switches to The Four Knights, I have something fighting and sound to through against them. I played an 1800?! player that I had never beaten as black and with the Rubenstein suggested (1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nf6 3 Nc3 Nc6 4 Bb5 Nd4 5 Ba4...). That was more than I expected so I am very pleased with this book.
