Présentation de l'éditeur

Fans of Katie Fforde, Carole Matthews, Victoria Connelly or Erica James – and everyone who enjoyed Nick Alexander’s The French House – will love Fiona Valpy.

Five weddings. The perfect venue. One little hitch…

Leaving the grey skies of home behind to transform a crumbling French Château into a boutique wedding venue is a huge leap of faith for Sara. She and fiancé Gavin sink their life savings into the beautiful Château Bellevue – set under blue skies and surrounded by vineyards in the heart of Bordeaux.

After months of hard work, the dream starts to become a reality – until Gavin walks out halfway through their first season. Overnight, Sara is left very much alone with the prospect of losing everything.

With her own heart breaking, Sara has five weddings before the end of the season to turn the business around and rescue her dreams. With the help of the locals and a little French courage, can she save Château Bellevue before the summer is over?

What people are saying about The French for Always

‘This was set in the gorgeous French countryside which, itself, was another character in the novel, I honestly felt like I was there drinking in the sunshine, the atmosphere and the wine! The description in this book was just beautiful full on wonderful metaphorical language and adjectives that tasted wonderful in the mouth!

Overall this novel would be a lovely summer read, you will feel the heat emanating off the page and so will definitely put you in the mood for barbecues and a glass of wine or two alfresco. This is a stand along novel, so if you haven't read anything from this author before, it would be a great introduction to her lovely writing!4/5 Fabulous Book Fiend

I fell in love with this novel as soon as I had read the first few pages. I am a sucker for any story that in one way or another has to do with weddings, but I have to admit, I’m not a particular fan of France. Yet, the descriptions of Chateau Bellevue, the surroundings, the small village and its inhabitants... I loved it and the whole atmosphere in the novel immediately made it feel like summer, even though it was raining where I was! The main character, Sara, was easily likeable and I felt myself rooting for her and her wedding business, especially after her fiancé Gavin decides to leave her and she suddenly has to set up the business on her own. Luckily, Sara is surrounded by a great cast of supporting characters, including the trustworthy Karen and handsome and charming Thomas.

The storyline, which revolves around Sara and her attempts to save Chateau Bellevue, was really enjoyable, especially because of the five weddings that are organised at the venue while the story enfolds. Each of the weddings featured a specific couple, all of them different from one another with their own background. Fiona Valpy’s writing is great; well-paced, detailed, and captivating, and I definitely look forward to reading more of her work in the future. ‘The French for Always’ is a wonderfully warm and thoroughly enjoyable read, and definitely the book to pick up if you are looking for your first taste of summer!’ 9.5/10 Spoonful of Happy Endings

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A wonderful well written summer read 16 juillet 2014

I'd suggest reading "The French for Love" book by this same author first, but even if you don't this is a great book all own its own. The author has done a fine job. It is a well written story with strong, identifiable characters, excellent descriptive settings and the right balance between romance and reality (never too soppy). I read this one first, then backtracked to "The French for Love", each was a wonderful read and I'll be putting Fiona Valpy on my watch list. I highly recommend both books.

This second novel by the very talented Fiona Valpy takes us back again to the beautiful area of south west France to which we were first introduced in The French For Love.
This time we meet Sara and are drawn into her life as she struggles to turn a beautiful old chateau into the setting for the perfect wedding while at the same time coping with meltdown in her own love life. The author's skill in depicting the different characters who make up these wedding weekends, allows the reader to enter in to each event as though a bona fide guest and as what feel like old friends from our first visit to the lovely town of Ste Foy la Grande , weave in and out of this story , I found myself totally immersed.
A most satisfying read.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fiona Valpy does it again 6 mai 2014
Par joan harcourt - Publié sur
Fiona Valpy is creating an enchanting village that nestles amidst the vineyards in the Bordeaux region of France. I say creating because I hope that she has a long series in store for us. Her first book, The French for Love, reached me when I was recovering from surgery, frustrated that the summer would be gone before I could enjoy it. The French for Love changed that. The book transported me to the village of Coulliac, drenched in sun and the scent of flowers, peopled by a cast of irresistible characters, both French and English. The story that was gradually revealed stayed with me for a long time. I hadn't realized how fond I had grown of some of the people I'd met along the way until I met them again in walk-on parts in the author's second book, The French for Always.

Like The French for Love, The French for Always is stunning in its attention to detail. Valpy's subtle humour runs through it all like a silver thread. And then there is her superb depiction of the glorious countryside, the canvas on which the story is painted. And what a story it is! Fiona Valpy's village, the people who live there and those who are just passing through - let alone the rivetting action - lodge themselves in the readers' minds, old friends we hope to meet again and again.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 wonderful summer read! 15 mai 2014

Such a lovely read! The story turns out to be everything the cover promises you: romance, sun, breathtaking scenery, and did I say romance?
Sara is such an easy to like, easy to love main character. You feel very strongly about her and Fiona describes all her emotions, from hope and happiness to sadness and heartbreak so well that it might just be you, living in a French castle planning weddings! And what a life that would be! Sara's hardship aside, of course.
Fiona Valpy brings a wonderful variety of characters to the party so there's definitely not a dull moment, both in Château Bellevue and in reading. Be warned, after you've dried your tears, you might just book a plane ticket to some desolated vineyard for a holiday in the sun drinking wine, eating French bread and falling in love. 'Cause yes, all of that can happen!
The French for Always is a lovely summer read about dreams, friendship and romance in all its forms; and in Château Bellevue everyone comes together to celebrate just that.
I was very very happy when I found out that there's going to be a sequel! The French for Love is out this summer! Guess what I'll be reading...

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Beautiful 26 avril 2014

The French for Always was a beautiful book. Just look at that cover! The books that bring you a setting you want to be transported to are always lovely to read and I need to spend some time at the gorgeous Château Bellevue.

The book looks like a serene, relaxing read and I felt like the writing represented that too. It was an easy, light book which for me was perfect to enjoy in one sitting on a night in. The French culture really stood out in this book and I felt like the author excelled at setting the scene for this book. It was a truly stunning story.

As much as I loved how pleasant this book was to read, I felt like maybe it could have done with an added twist in the tale, not unnecessary drama, but just something to give the plot a little bit of a lift. However, The French for Always was really brought to life with the brilliant characters. Sara was a lovely character and from the moment her life changes at the beginning of the book, I cared and rooted for her the whole way through. She felt like the kind of person I could be friends with in real life and I love authors who can write characters like that. Each of the to-be-married couples were developed wonderfully too. For a quick book I thought it was great at creating memorable characters who I loved to read about.

The French for Always helped me drift away from my own life for a little while and it was a lovely story – one that never failed to make me smile. With a plot I’d love to revisit again and again, this was a fab book.

*Book gifted for honest review.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A MUST read this summer 15 juillet 2014

I am the sort of reader who experiences a tingle of excitement when I discover an author whose work I enjoy has a new release pending. The tingle was so strong when The French for Always popped onto my Kindle that I just had to have a quick peek. How silly of me! I ended up deeply immersed and unable to put it down.

Set in a chateau among the Bordeaux vineyards we meet Sara, a very likeable character but a bit of an emotional wreck. Her fiancé has deserted her and their wedding business mid season, leaving her to put on a brave face and carry on making dreams come true for five happy couples. She also has a lot of family trauma from the past that she’s never really dealt with which is bubbling just under the surface. With no real roots, she feels she belongs at the chateau, but without Gavin she must face the prospect of having to sell it.

This book transported me to Sara’s chateau and as the guest at a great mix of weddings, under a blue sky with plenty of sunshine, I laughed, I cried and I enjoyed every page. Each of the couples and families we meet bring their own idea of love to the book and brought the odd wedding tear to my eyes too. What more could I ask for in a bit of novel escapism? Well, there is always a sexy Frenchman who could come to her rescue, just like in a good fairytale, but although vigneron Thomas steps in to help out, he has dreams of his own that involve getting as far away from Bordeaux as possible.

It was also lovely to catch up with some of the characters from The French for Love, Fiona’s first book, who play a cameo role in this book. This was a nice little tie in and now I want another book please Fiona.

Thank you to Bookoutre for my review copy.

What a beautiful book! I was totally absorbed and living in the breathtaking scenery with the well developed characters, in no time at all. In addition, the author interweaves the region's history and culture into the book very effectively, which adds another dimension to the book. The story of the romance unfolds and grips you in an easy manner, transporting you along, effortlessly. I am not your typical romance reader, but really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. An easy read with some nice twists in the story that keep you wanting more. I am certainly looking forward to reading more of Fiona Valpy's books and I recommend this great read. An earlier book of Fiona's up next for me is The French for Love
