Présentation de l'éditeur

When Cash Harris visits his father for the first time after a fifteen year estrangement, things don't go anywhere near as planned. By the end of the night, he finds himself embroiled in a plot to destabilise the government, his father has been assassinated and he discovers a shocking truth that would have fundamentally altered his life fifteen years earlier.

However, all of this pales into insignificance when, along with his best friend and ex-fiancee, he fights for his innocence and the chance to save a world they didn't even know needed saving. They uncover the truth that has been alluding mankind from its very inception. Life, the universe...everything...nothing is as it really seems.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Murray McDonald Delivers! 24 avril 2014
Par Steven Konkoly - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle|Achat vérifié
For me, Murray McDonald's name has become synonymous with unexpected twists and non-stop action. I read his books with a careful eye, mindful that at some point—Mr. McDonald will flip me upside down and shake the rest of my stubborn thriller preconceptions onto the floor.

Wondering how McDonald could top TRAITOR, I downloaded his latest and was treated to an explosive start. Nothing new for Mr. McDonald. A few chapters into the story, I sensed something different. Something more complex than his usual covert operations/conspiracy thrillers. Elements of science fiction. Two parts thriller-one part sci-fi, THE GOD COMPLEX is by far Mr. McDonald's most ambitious novel to date, weaving all of the elements we've come to enjoy in his previous books (fast pace, skillful character development, unpredictable conspiracy), with a brave foray into the "unexplained origins of earth" sci-fi realm. His successful merging of the two genres yields an entertaining, thought-provoking story.

As always, strap yourself in for McDonald's patented twists and turns, but no matter how hard you try, you can't possibly guess the ending. Trust me—the epilogue is worth the price of admission alone!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Another page turner...with the best twist so far! 31 mars 2014
Par Ian Sainsbury - Publié sur Amazon.com

MacDonald's books are my guilty secret - fast-paced thrillers that keep you guessing. Sci-fi has always been a favourite genre of mine, so I approached this departure from the norm with a little trepidation. I needn't have worried, however, as The God Complex is the usual serving of high-octane thrills, but this time with a side of aliens...or not? No spoilers here, but I'll admit to laughing out loud at the final twist which is a stroke of genius.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 The Inferiority Complex 11 décembre 2014
Par Amazon Customer - Publié sur Amazon.com

Having looked at numerous other reviews and at the title of the book, "...: A Thriller", I've decided not to review this book as a searingly fast paced, plot loaded potboiler because, although the editing and actual grammar need an overhaul, this author appears to be capable of writing literature. By that, I mean that his plot development indicates a mind full of creative genius, yet he neglects to utilize most of the writer's basic tools. He refuses to develop his characters [Riggs is as mistreated by the author as by his parents!]. Nor does he allow in his jet stream of a plotline a moment's consideration of the overwhelming implications of these gigantic propositions he so courageously tosses out to the cultural consciousness. He has the skills to do so. I fervently believe that. But, as if a member of the Noble family himself, he appears to want not to be bothered if he can get away without.

On the other hand, if Mr. McDonald were to raise his ante, he might find himself facing a somewhat different cross-section of the reading public. One with slightly different expectations. I myself was thoroughly fascinated with the archeological detail, but with other aspects of the book carelessly attended to (grammar especially), I constantly wondered to what extent the description could be relied upon to be factual.

All that said, I enjoyed the book immensely! Mr. McDonald, indeed, has a gifted imagination, more so in his ability to move plot pieces like chess figures. His way through events is le Carré-esque, to an extent that is maddening. I found myself racing through the book, not only to find out how it ended, but to understand what was happening around me as I read.

Now, all that said, to be able to enjoy the experience I did, and to be able to experience the more
well-rounded offering such as le Carré gives us 90% of the time......That would remove any inferiority complexities I ever considered regarding Mr. McDonald!

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Well that's just silly. 30 août 2014
Par SDM - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle|Achat vérifié
This book is what happens when the author gets caught up in trying to keep up a fast pace, but has no substance to go with it. The plot was predictable and trite, the characters were simplistic caricatures -- annoying, and not believable. There was no effort to have the story make sense. The supposed thrilling action was just silly. For example, there is an elite group of assassins, so skilled and lethal that they cannot be stopped by a battalion of soldiers. Yet they commit murders in broad daylight, in locations crawling with observers... And then pursue our hero so noisily that they are heard scuttling up from behind. Well wait, are they stealthy or not? And that's the problem with the whole book. Whatever is convenient for the moment is what happens. You need people to resolve the death of a loved one in half a paragraph? No problem. You need supposedly suspicious, professional spies to trust someone without reason? Ok, as long as it's convenient. Here's the problem: PEOPLE DON'T ACT THAT WAY. If you're going to get through this miserable effort, you have to be willing to accept that there's no sense of realism or sensibility. You're going to have to accept major characters that are cardboard cutouts of people. And a story that is just the same as every other end of world idea you've ever read. Right down to the last minute change of heart brought on by a mother's love. So inspiring, so heartwarming, so...nah, so utterly inane it makes your head hurt. This was awful.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Fast Paced Story 30 mars 2014
Par J. D. Andersen - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
Another fast paced read from Murray McDonald. And again he spins a story about a corporation that does things in a way to advance their own ends, without regard for any collateral damage. One major difference with this novel, however. There is a touch of science fiction involved in this plot. It made for an interesting read. As science fiction is not a genre I usually read, I’m not really qualified to pass judgment on quality so I’ll just say that I enjoyed the change of pace served up by McDonald.

As with most of his books, McDonald’s plots require the reader to check their credulity with the librarian and just enjoy the novel as it was written.
