Another Von Daniken Trip into the Mysterious 5 avril 2003
Par Ann Brown - Publié sur
Format: Relié
In this book, Erich Von Daniken talks a lot about a mysterious cave where ancient carved gold artifacts were found. Pictures of them are found in the book, some of which are very thought-provoking. This book has gold, it has caves, it has ancient mysteries, most of all its by Von Daniken, so you know your mind will be forever challenged.

Not everyone appreciates the musings of Erich von Daniken; on the other hand some see him as a genius and visionary of sorts. I had read 'Chariot of the Gods' so long ago that I should probably read it again to see how my perception has changed over time. Meanwhile I am very aware of his line of conjecture as well as his ongoing legacy as a spokesman for the "Ancient Astronaut" theory; which has become a staple of the History Channel in the last few years.

As to the book; while doing some research on the subject of gold and god(s)I purchased this book in the hope that it would give me some insight into humankind's age old fascination with gold and whatever connection it had with the gods of the ancients. I'm not sure that was the authors intent, for as one reviewer called it "Rambling Essays" pretty much sums up the content. While I may not have found any insight into my line of inquiry, I did find some very intriguing information about several ancient artifacts and subterranean tunnel systems in Peru and elsewhere in South America of which I had never come across before, as well as a host of other interesting tidbits and info concerning our unknown past.

On the downside, Daniken does take some whimsical flights of fancy on a few occasions (which as I recall is his 'bread and butter' so to speak. I noticed one quote about the origin of the term "Big Bang" which I found suspect based on prior research, but no big deal. However his use of the now archaic British term "Milliard" (meaning Billion) got old very fast; which dates the book somewhat. On the other hand, there are some fine 'nuggets' (pun aside) of information and insight to be gleaned from this interesting man, which goes far to explain his popularity.

Personally I think one of his finer moments is when he chronicles (briefly) the story behind his correspondence with NASA engineer J.F. Blumrich; a man who went out of his way to prove Daniken wrong concerning his interpretation of the prophet Ezekiel's visions of otherworldly "nuts and bolts" spacecraft (as found in 'The Book of Ezekiel' in the Old Testament). Thankfully Mr. Blumrich did his research and using his unique skills and background as as a rocket engineer, wrote and published his own book, "The Spaceships of Ezekiel;" a must read for anyone into this line of conjecture. Needless to say Blumrich believes that there was more than theophany and mysticism going on in those days. I'm glad I read the book, and if you've read this far, I'm sure you will be as well.

For those who would like to see things from a different point of view they should start with Erich von Daniken. We have a constant need to stay on a pre-fixed opinion and chose not to question "facts", not forgetting our true nature which is to question everything and come to a conclusion on your own account is much more comforting. This is not the only book from this writer, but no matter which one you start with you just might want to read his other books as well. And don't forget, no one expects you to change your opinion permanently, you can always go back to your own way of thinking. To live in a world with built up walls and boundaries is no better than a cage in the dark.

For those familiar with Erich's work this book seems kinda thrown together and not as organized. If you are a collector you will want it but IT would not recommend for first time readers of Erich. He has much better publications on related topics.
A must for my library. 14 octobre 2010

A friend loaned me her "The Gold of the Gods" which I read because of my passion to learn more than what my religion and my formal education gave me. In search to find an answer to my question, "Is there really only one God?"; I have found with this book a greater understanding of the only one God myth. There really may be many gods who came to planet earth.
Reading "The Gold of the Gods" gave me more confidence to what the answer really is even thought that was not what I was taught as a child in my Sunday School classes. This book as expanded my belief system with pictures, facts, and with what really may be in the beginning of life on planet earth and how it came about.
I would recommend that this book be read with an open mind, a desire to explore possibilities and draw conclusions that you are comfortable with at the moment. Or be ready to learn many things that you may not be comfortable with at the moment, but know that truth has a path for each one of us to take, it is impossible, then a maybe, then it can be true. If you need to travel down this path with the idea of many gods, be kind to yourself as you learn there isn't just one God.
I am so thankful for Erich von Daniken's research and discoveries that he shared with us in this book.
May you be enriched with these new ideas as much as I am.
