Revue de presse

"Sussman knew how to keep a complex plot bowling along while constantly ratcheting up the tension...this is top-drawer popular fiction and is sure to become an even bigger bestseller than his three other novels." (John Preston MAIL ON SUNDAY)

"An absolutely top-notch thriller - captivating, intelligent and notably well-written, with a depth of characterisation most thrillers don't usually even attempt... his plotting is terrific...Sussman's thrillers have been translated into 33 languages and have sold over 2 million copies worldwide. This, his final book, deserves to be even more successful." (Harry Ritchie DAILY MAIL)

"Stylish writing and deep research." (Guardian)

"A genuinely exciting read from a world-class storyteller.a beautifully-observed thriller" (Christopher Fowler FINANCIAL TIMES)

Présentation de l'éditeur

A journalist is murdered in Jerusalem’s Armenian Cathedral and Detective Arieh Ben-Roi is spoilt for leads. But one seems out of place – an apparent link to a decades-old missing persons case in Egypt. Baffled, Ben-Roi turns for help to his old friend and sparring partner, Inspector Yusuf Khalifa of the Luxor Police.
Although struggling with personal tragedy and immersed in a case of his own – mysterious well poisonings in the Eastern Desert – Khalifa agrees to do some digging. What he discovers will change both men’s lives for ever.
As their investigations intertwine, the detectives are drawn ever deeper into a sinister web of violence, abuse, corporate malpractice and international terrorism. And at its heart lies a three thousand year-old mystery that has already taken two lives, and will soon be claiming more…

5.0 étoiles sur 5 UN LIVRE MERVEILLEUX 4 août 2014
Format:Format Kindle

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Sussman's Last, Greatest Book 13 décembre 2012
Par Mary L. Barnich - Publié sur Amazon.com

I've been a fan of Paul Sussman since his first book. The Labyrinth of Osiris is his most wonderful swan song. Paul corresponded with me after I wrote reviews of his other books and proved to be a truly amicable guy. I was so busy waiting for this book that I missed the notices of his sudden death at the tender age of 45, last May, from an aneurism. My heart was broken both because of the loss of his gentle, funny nature and his tremendous writing skills.

In Labyrinth of Osiris, he again features my favorite Luxor-denizen, Egyptian Detective Khalifa and his unusual friend, Israeli detective Ben-Roi. The two haven't been in contact much since their last case together but, once again begin concurrent cases in Egypt and Israel that squirm their ways together. As they work through both of their country's unbelievable bureaucracies to help one other, their friendship again blossoms. Their "racist" descriptions of each other are both wind-sucking and show their mutual affection. Khalifa is trying to discover what poisoned the water of a Christian household in Egypt, while Ben-Roi awaits the birth of his first child. Each fights the middle-aged crazies, while trying to understand their own lives and their own losses. Ben-Roi's case involves a famous journalist killed in Jerusalem's Armenian cathedral, while investigating a sex-slave ring, and a creepy international company, which seems above reproach, becomes a sleazy counterpart to be investigated as well. It is amazing what a truly great writer Sussman had become. If only we could look forward to more books by this man who truly transcended the Middle East mess, while adding a context that few of us knowThe Labyrinth of Osiris. Goodbye, Paul, I'll miss you! Thanks for such a great parting gift.

This is not for the uneducated. Nor is it just for the college crowd. A great read filled with mystery, religion, politics, and the true foundation of a friendship. If you are not familiar with Hebrew pronunciation (as I am not) or Arabic pronunciation fear not you will get through this book. This book has many turns and outcomes. Please give it a try you will not be disappointed in the end.

Mr Sussman's final book does not disappoint. I enjoyed all of the books he gave the world. the characters become your friends and you cheer them on to the solution of the mystery. I was amazed at the way Mr Sussman brought so many disconnected pieces together at the end of the book. I was sorry to hear of his passing last year, my sympathies to his family.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 What a great writing talent now lost forever 31 janvier 2013

"I have great joy and great sadness having just finished THE LABYRINTH OF OSIRIS (ISBN 978-0802120410, hardcover, about $25.00). The great joy comes from finding an author of unbelievable talent. The great sadness comes from finding out that he died suddenly last May at age 46. Fortunately for future fans there are 4 books by Paul. `LABYRINTH' was published in the U.S. late in 2012. I look forward to reading the previous three books.

Many readers might think that they know what a labyrinth is. Throw that thought away. In this book, labyrinth refers to an ancient cave/goldmine that supplied Pharaohs with all the gold they needed for their tombs. The story of the LABYRINTH OF OSIRIS chronologically opens with the rape of a blind 20-year-old woman in 1931. Followed by the discovery of an unknown murder victim in a burial shaft in 1972. Followed in the present time by the murder of an Israeli newspaper reporter (female) in the Cathedral of St. James in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. Ecoterrorism is another part of the story as well as a malevolent, privately owned, multibillion, multinational corporation based in Houston, TX. Which crime is the thread that Israeli police detective Arieh Ben-Roi and Egyptian police detective Yusuf Khalifa try to unravel? The two detectives are real and you feel for them as their fortunes rise and fall over and over again.

Paul Sussman wrote a section of the book that finds one of the men trapped in a cave for nearly 24 hours without benefit of ANY light, food or water. At the climax of that chapter my heart was racing as fast as the character's heart. My adrenaline rate was clear off the scale. Without a doubt, that scene was the most dramatic I have ever read. And I read a lot. My advice is to get to your book supplier as fast as possible and read this book.

GO! BUY! READ!"
