Présentation de l'éditeur

An accessible look at the art of investing and how to adopt the practices of top professionals

What differentiates the highly successful market practitioners—the Market Wizards—from ordinary traders? What traits do they share? What lessons can the average trader learn from those who achieved superior returns for decades while still maintaining strict risk control? Jack Schwager has spent the past 25 years interviewing the market legends in search of the answers—a quest chronicled in four prior Market Wizards volumes totaling nearly 2,000 pages.

In The Little Book of Market Wizards, Jack Schwager seeks to distill what he considers the essential lessons he learned in conducting nearly four dozen interviews with some of the world's best traders. The book delves into the mindset and processes of highly successful traders, providing insights that all traders should find helpful in improving their trading skills and results.

  • Each chapter focuses on a specific theme essential to market success
  • Describes how all market participants can benefit by incorporating the related traits, behaviors, and philosophies of the Market Wizards in their own trading
  • Filled with compelling anecdotes that bring the trading messages to life, and direct quotes from the market greats that resonate with the wisdom born of experience and skill

Stepping clearly outside the narrow confines of most investment books, The Little Book of Market Wizards focuses on the value of understanding one's self within the context of successful investing.

Quatrième de couverture

Praise for The Little Book of Market Wizards "Jack Schwager has written some of the classics in the investment field and this latest may be the best of them all. His books were very influential on me as a young trader. I still reread them today for reminders of hard–learned lessons and also for new inspiration. Schwager′s ability to coax the best traders into revealing their methods is legendary and this Little Book distills these lessons into a thorough, organized, and fascinating set of lessons that I will be giving to every aspiring trader I know." —COLM O′SHEA, Founding Partner and CIO, COMAC Capital LLP "Jack Schwager has done it again. His Little Book is insightful, enlightening, and ultimately invaluable." —JOEL GREENBLATT, Managing Principal, Gotham Asset Management; author of The Little Book that Beats the Market "In his Little Book of Market Wizards , Jack Schwager presents the essence of trading as a series of colorful anecdotes that get right to the point and stay with you." —ED SEYKOTA "No author—living or deceased—has created such a rich archive of printed material on the profession of market speculation as has Jack Schwager. An entire generation of speculators owes a debt to the Market Wizards series and to Jack for at least some portion of its success. The Little Book of Market Wizards brings remarkably new dimensions that only Jack Schwager could tease out of his extensive interviews with the trading greats." —PETER L. BRANDT, trader, from the Foreword

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Market Wizards Principles Condensed 17 février 2014
Par Steve Burns - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle|Achat vérifié
Jack Schwager has done a great job condensing the best of his four Market Wizard books into this one smaller work and staying true to the series. While the larger books focus on the full interviews of the Market Wizards and share the best that they had to offer readers from those interviews this book distills the best of the best principles, examples, and advice into one quick and easy read.

If you have read the other four books in the Market Wizard series with the full interviews there is very little new content here but it is an excellent quick review of those books and it is always good to study the concepts over and over to solidify what works in the trading world until you internalize it mentally.

If you have not read the other books this is an outstanding introduction to the Market Wizard series and I highly recommend after this one to go on and read the other four which I consider some of the very best trading books ever written.

The book covers these main principles of successful trading:

Resilience to come back from early losses and account blow ups.
Focusing on what really matters in trading success.
Trading a method that fits your own personality.
Trading with an edge.
The harder you work at trading the luckier you will get.
The homework to develop a methodology should be hard but the actual trading itself should be simple.
Mental and emotional control is key while winning or losing.
Managing the risk to avoid failure and pain.
Discipline to follow your trading plan.
Confidence and independence as a trader.
Being a good loser.
Be patient with winning trades and impatient with losing trades.
The right way to position size.
Comfortable trades are usually losing trades while the more uncomfortable trades are usually the winners.
Emotions are dangerous masters to the trader.
You have to evolve as a trader or eventually fail.
It is not the news but how the market reacts to that news.
Learning through mistakes.
Passion for trading is the fuel for eventual success.

These principles are explained through the words of some of the greatest long term traders out there.

Excellent book for new traders and an outstanding resource for experienced traders to review each year to keep themselves on the right track. Easily one of my new top recommendations for new traders.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A true compendium of Mr. Schwager's groundbreaking Market Wizards Series 13 février 2014

If you have read any of Schwager's previous works, you understand just how invaluable his interviews have been in shaping the careers, mind sets and wallets of a whole generation of traders.

LBMW is a nice concise collection of the lessons learned through those interviews.

If you are an avid student of his books already you are unlikely to glean much new knowledge from this one.

However, if like me, you occasionally enjoy brushing up on his work during periods of drawdowns or downtime, LBMW is an excellent addition to your library as a reference piece.

Think of LBMW as an expanded set of Cliff Notes to his prior works. If viewed that way you are unlikely to be disappointed.

As usual, Jack has come out with another gem. There is so much to learn from his books and interviews. Real life incidents make this book so useful. There is so much relatedness that the actual investor-trader can see in real life examples.

Many times in past, I just could not understand my intuition. Thanks to Jack, I pay a hell lot of attention to them.

Jack, Thanks a lot for introducing world's greatest traders and their practical approach to us.

All who hv read his MW series will find this book very refreshing.

So much practical and full of sense.

In the trading and investment world, there are very few authors who have a real knack for writing. I am glad I read his books many years back and still hv them on my CPU to keep on reminding me not to do stupid things and follow my rules and the methodology that suits my personality.

Thank you Jack for guiding so much over all these years. I just could not put down your latest book till I completed it in last three days.

My best wishes to you for your all endeavors.

With lots of regards,

Janak Merchant

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Another Book Review from the Aleph Blog 9 septembre 2014
Par David Merkel - Publié sur
Over time, I have reviewed a decent number of "Little Books." I have a theory as to why I like some of them, and not others. I like the ones that take a relatively narrow concept and summarize it. An example of that would be Mark Mobius' book on emerging markets, or Vitaliy Katsenelson's book on sideways markets.

But when a concept is broad and not friendly to summary, a "little book" is not so useful. As examples, John Mauldin's book on Bulls Eye Investing went too many directions, and Scaramucci on Hedge Funds could not adequately summarize or describe a large topic.

There are other "Little Books" that I have read that did not even get a review... probably about 10% of the books I read in entire never get the review written because they were so bad, or just hard to decide what the book was. (What do you want to be if you grow up dear? ;) )

Sorry, too much intro. For those at Amazon, there are useful links at my blog.

Jack Schwager is generally a good writer, and expert at talking with clever investors in order to break down the main points of how they invest (without giving away the store). In this "Little Book" he goes a different direction, and looks for commonalities among various clever investors, with each chapter covering a different topic.

My view is that most clever investors fall into one of a bunch of categories, much of which boils down to time horizon for the preferred investment. Going down the continuum: day trader, swing trader, longer-term trader, momentum-oriented growth investor, growth investor, growth-at-a-reasonable-price investor, and value investor. After that, you might differentiate between those that go for relative vs absolute returns.

As such, the book posits a bunch of topics that apply to different groups of clever investors. I think it would have been better to have segmented the book by classes of investors, because then you could have a coherent set of commonalities for each main investor type.

As it is, the book relies heavily on anecdotes, which isn't entirely a bad thing; nothing motivates a topic like a story. But if you were reading this to try to develop your own philosophy of managing money in order to fit your own personality, you might have a hard time doing it with this book. I think you would be better off reading one of Schwager's longer books, and reading about each clever investor separately. At least then you get to see the full package for an investor, and how the different aspects of investing in a given style work together.

Already expressed.

If you just want a taste of what a wide variety of different investors do to be effective, this could be the book for you. For most other people, get one of Schwager's longer books, and read about the different investors as individual chapters.

I had the opportunity to read the first book of the series Market Wizards and I felt very impressed with the amount of useful information that I could extract from the multiple interviews made by the author. Well this time I've found something even more precious, a resume of the most important features that successful traders have in common compiling the work of over 20 years, It's a wonderful book full of important insights made by probably one of the best trading authors in the entire world. Important tips inside that would be very useful for beginners up to professional traders.
