A truly fascinating story 31 août 2009

I had never heard of this Dr. Kersten before until a personal friend of mine related how he and his family had benefitted from Dr. Kersten's intervention. His father, a US citizen living in The Netherlands during WW II, was imprisoned by the Germans. After his mother, prompted by a friend, sent a letter addressed to Heinrich Himmler, his father was released after 10 days! My friend, being only 9 years old at the time, never understood how this was possible, seen the reputation of Himmler as a ruthless man, until he read about Dr. Kersten in the Reader's Digest many years later.
After hearing his story I purchased the book and finished reading it within 24 hours.
A very well written book, that captured and held my attention through the end.
Highly recommended reading for WW II history buffs.

One Of The Greatest Untold Sories Of The 20th Century 10 février 2012

This book sat on my shelf for 20 years. A hand me down from my mother, I kept it quietly untouched on the shelf. As I was dusting off my bookshelf one day, I picked up the book and was somehow compelled to begin reading it and scarcely put it down for 2 days. I had not read long before I realized that this fragile, old paperback, it's pages turned yellow and brittle; had been all these years, a treasure chest waiting to be opened. The story of Felix Karsten , humbled me. It entertained me, educated me, and reminded me of how, in the midst great barbarism, lights do shine. This book should have been made a movie long, long ago. This book ranks squarely beside, Schindler's List, The Hiding Place, Defiance, The Grey Zone and other greats. I hope it is offered in a kindle edition soon.

A little known figure of history 2 juillet 2009

Felix Kersten was someone that I had never heard of in years of reading Nazi era and war era material; he was a quiet riot against tyranny, using his talent in massage to influence Himmler. A testament to how one person can make a world of difference to many.

A great story 22 décembre 2012
Par JB - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I first stumbled upon this great book in the 1970s, a college history professor had assigned us to pick an event in WW2 and write a paper about it. The professor gave me a bad grade as she'd never heard the Felix Kersten story before and said the book smacked of revisionism from a Nazi sympathizer. Since then, HR Trevor Roper and plenty of other reliable historians have vindicated the man with the miraculous hands. This is an exciting and all-too-believable story about someone who is caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and decides to use his talents to do as much good as he can in a bad situation.
