An all inclusive guide to everything you would want to know about propagating and saving your own seeds.

From the beginning, the introduction is packed with knowledge and passion as to why you should propagate your own seeds. I definitely learned a thing a two!

Instructions for seed saving are grouped by family of plant. Most plants (at least, most plants that I would be interested in propagating) are included; for each plant a brief introduction is given along with how the plant is pollinated, what tools you will need to collect the seeds and how to grow for seed and harvest the seed.

A lot of information to take in, but a useful book for any gardener who would like to collect their own seeds or propagate their own varieties.

This book was provided for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is just gorgeous. The photos make me want to spend countless hours in the garden. It is a sturdy book and just as practical as it is inspiring. I am a total beginner at seed saving. I became enamored by the concept and decided- this is the year. All I needed was knowledge.
Boy, does this book contain a lot of it. You don't just learn how to save seeds-- you learn why, and the history. You learn about genes and about stuff that went way over my head. That is however, just what I was looking for. A book that will grow with me. I can learn the basics. At the same time in seasons to come, I can expand that knowledge with experience. Besides a overview of techniques-- you also get in depth guides on harvesting, storing and sowing every variety of veggie, herb and fruit you can think of. Very thankful for this book. What a beautiful gift, the knowledge of saving seeds.

This was a great, concisely written manual for the average person to learn the art of seed saving. In these days of convenient packets, most people just DON'T know how to do this! I remember when I first started gardening wondering how carrots propagated since there were no obvious 'seeds'. I was alarmed at my own ignorance and I started studying on my own. This is a very handy guide to have for those who want to fix that themselves. I do wish more attention had been paid to plant 'inbreeding', but you can't have everything! And I found the GMO chapter to be very relevant to our times. Thanks, Timber Press for an awesome read!

The book was a gift for my brother who loves gardening and he can't stop talking about it!!! The only downfall was the shipping for this item. There was no tracking provided and that was frustrating since it was for Christmas. (It arrived on the 26th)
