4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great guide to be a better coach! 10 février 2014
Par Mary Wendell - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
This is a really solid soccer coaching book. It brings all aspects of the game up-to-date, including: sports psychology, technical diagrams, tactical drills, and physical health. Basically, it's a complete guide on making yourself a better coach!

Although so much has changed, I still can't shake the positive impact bestowed upon me by reading Training Soccer Champions, nearly 20 years the senior to this book. Anson Dorrance led USA in the World Cup and has the winningest record for NCAA Women's Soccer. He has a lot of wisdom to impact and obviously people are interested because the book has recently been republished.

Author Gary Curneen honors the tried-and-true basics in Chapter 4: The Non-Negotiables, which to These Football Times, makes this book worth its weight in gold. "It's easy for coaches to forget the basics and consequently sacrifice the quality and enjoyment of a session for the players. It affects every coach but to have them so clearly defined, intelligently laid out and without the weight of modern coaching jargon is refreshing indeed."

If you are a soccer coach, doesn't matter what level, this is definitely a book worth your time.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Thought it would be helpful for "coaching kids" 21 mai 2014

I coach girl's soccer and just could not relate to this book. I think it would be good if you work with high school or college kids maybe? So many reviews say "All coaches should read this". It may be better to say "All coaches for teenagers and older should read this"

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent book for all coaches 30 décembre 2013

As a coach for over 20 years, I have read many books on coaching and the methods used. I found this book to be an excellent book for coaches at all levels. The language used in the book enables all coaches to understand the suggested drills. The drill are excellent and align with the meaning of the book, unlike some books that just throw in drills to fill pages. I would highly recommend this book to not only experienced coaches looking to continue learning and developing but to new coaches looking to learn the game.

A great read for all soccer coaches

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent Resource 6 janvier 2014

I found the Modern Soccer Coach an extremely insightful and inspiring book. As a coach for over ten years I found myself agreeing with many of Gary's statements about old-school coaching, as they applied to myself.

The drills are a great resource and his point about how the coach sets the tempo of a session, as opposed to the players, is a small observation that can make a massive difference to the effectiveness of practices. The majority of coaching books focus on the drills or X's and O's whereas Gary stresses the importance of communication and handling people as the key to successful coaching.

Most of all the book has inspired me to ensure I am keeping all my practices exciting, fun and informative for my players.

I am a soccer coach, always looking for information and knowledge that I can incorporate into my Coaching Practice. This book is a very good read, and it is a wealth of knowledge. It has not only practical drills but it also expounds on the Shift in Soccer (Football) tactics over the last 10 years. This shift has put a greater emphasis on Skills and the Style of play by younger players. I coach younger players and I found this Book very useful in helping to improve my Coaching. Thank you Gary Curneen
