Knowledge which has been Steadfastly & Unethically Avoided 27 décembre 2010
Par Joseph P. Tevington - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié
Dr. Thomas Hilgers maintains that "Each of...three major developments in the field of reproductive medicine - the release of the birth control pill, the legalization of abortion, and the introduction of in vitro fertilization - has had a major impact on the practice of obstetrics and gynecology and the health care of women" (p. 4). He goes on to powerfully describe the devastating impacts brought about by each of these developments. Counter-culturally, Hilgers maintains that fertility awareness can be taught for postponing or achieving pregnancy. He advocates instruction to wives and husbands "to determine, in effect, when the biological valve is open (a time of fertility) and when it is closed (a time of infertility)....These observations are easy to do and require very little time" (p.52); his revolutionary NaPro Technology is an outgrowth of this approach.

The second and third sections of The NaPro Technology Revolution provide a review of the human reproductive system and explanations of the Creighton Model charting system & NaPro Technology, respectively. The fourth section consists of chapters devoted to Effects of Stress, Recurrent Ovarian Cysts, Premenstrual Syndrome, Postpartum Depression, Infertility: What Progress Over 50 Years, NaPro Technology & Infertility, Recurrent Miscarriage, Endometriosis, Polycystic Ovarian Disease, Absence of Menstrual Periods, Male Infertility, Menstrual Cramps & Pelvic Pain, Chronic Vaginal Discharges, Unusual Bleeding, and Prevention of Preterm Birth. The closing section consists of chapters devoted to Costs & Insurance Reform and New Insights from Current Research.

Don't expect to see any praise coming from the pharmaceutical industry for Hilger's magnificent work. As per The Global Market for Hormonal Contraceptives and Infertility Drugs, 2005-2012, it has been reported that "The current mature market for hormonal contraceptives and infertility drugs is estimated at US$7.1 billion in 2006 but is forecast to increase 40% to US$9.9 billion by 2012." This book should be required reading for all health care professionals, pastoral workers, and counselors - indeed for anyone who is truly concerned about the health of women and social justice.

Dr. Hilgers has often stated publicly that there are many who have an opinion of NaProTECHNOLOGY, but none of them actually have the faintest idea what it is. With the release of this book, lack of understanding can no longer be an excuse! Within its 460 pages, this long anticipated book creates a clear, concise and comprehensive overview of the Creighton Model FertilityCare system and NaProTechnology (NPT). Written specifically for the lay person, it includes guides for the physician and other health care providers with explanations of treatment protocols and further references online.

In the introductory chapter, Hilgers promises the female reader that, if she has ever been dissatisfied, frustrated or even abandoned by her health care provider, she is not alone. He then begins to outline the current approach to reproductive health care, health care he explains is neither reproductive nor healthy. From here, he launches into an explanation of this new approach to women's health care, with chapters entitled "Dissent and Discovery", "Women Healed" and "Two Approaches to Reproductive Medicine".

As most women have a lack of understanding of basic reproductive functioning, Dr. Hilgers devotes the first few chapters on female anatomy, physiology and hormone cycles. He addresses the "myths, ignorance and insults" that have been placed before this work over the many years of its development and lambastes the state of modern reproductive medicine. While explaining the NaProTracking of the fertility cycle, Hilgers is careful to give a full explanation without taking away the need for instruction with a FertilityCare Practitioner. The teaching system he says, provides a comprehensive standardized approach to the management of difficult cases and adds that "it is completely holistic"

While the first 14 chapters of the book cover the state of modern reproductive medicine and explain the workings of the reproductive system, the remaining chapters fall under the categories of "A New Understanding", "Conditions, Diseases and NaProTechnology" and if course "The Future". The readers are invited to approach the rest of the book in any order as it is anticipated they will want to start with what interests them or happens to be their own personal medical problem.

Most of the chapters are not complex but they can be technical. A glossary of terms is provided and full color illustrations enhance the book. Powerful testimonials are included and they are indexed along with sections entitled "For the Doctor".
Additional reference material can be found at [...] which will most likely be appreciated by the health care professional.

This book should be in the library of everyone interested in women's health.
Don't be surprised if it catapults NaProTechnology into popular culture, and get on a more than a few radar screens.

I have read a lot of work in this area and this is the most comprehensive and thoroughly researched view of the fertility cycle out there! Thank you Dr. Hilgers for making this available to the lay public as well as those in the medical field. I am especially impressed with the scope of the work as it relates to couples esperiencing infertility problems. Spread the word people...this is revolutionary!

It is incredible that so many physicians ignore this field, based in evidence and common sense. I recommend to read it without any predujice.
