The plate sizing technique can be used the rest of your life. Once you know your list of foods and how many servings you are allowed, it's a habit that is easy. I tweaked it only a little to fit my lifestyle. I had Whole Grain Cheerios for breakfast instead of the cardboard they suggested, but kept the focus on olive oil, vegies (be ready for a lot of vegies) and minimal dairy and grains.
The proof, however, is in the pudding. 10 pounds in 10 days!! That's with very little exercise, although I stayed active. I was never hungry, all digestive problems ceased and I have learned how to eat for life. Although I am stable and not following the exact plan, it is my go to book when the weight creeps back on! I use Sonoma portion techniques and now know what to buy at the supermarket. I Highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
Recipes are suggestions, no need to follow exactly just stay within the parameters of the servings. Cut vegies and pack them if you are busy, bring nuts to work, hard boil eggs, pack cherry tomatoes and small dishes of blueberries. A busy person can do this diet!
The Sonoma diet should be thought of as a lifestyle rather than a diet. By the time you get to Wave 3, which is your maintenance phase, you've trained yourself to eat the RIGHT foods in the RIGHT combination in the RIGHT amount.
I followed the meal plans from day to day, as written, because I really didn't want to have to do a lot of thinking. The recipes are FANTASTIC. You use lots of spices and fresh herbs, so the foods are flavorful and satisfying. I was never hungry, even during Wave I, the most restrictive phase. Be prepared to eat loads of vegetables and whole grains. There's a good variety of protein, however. One night you'll have chicken, another pork, another beef. The great thing about this "diet" is that there is so much variety.
You can't help but lose weight and feel better on this diet. The subtitle, "Trimmer Waist, More Energy in Just 10 Days," is right on!
