Présentation de l'éditeur

Much in the Poker community promises success because of what you learn — starting hand charts, pot odds, image building, fancy moves etc. — yet there is nearly nothing that teaches how to approach Poker in general. This book fills that gap. It starts where most others stop: how to build and structure an effective training curriculum and how to maneuver through the psychological traps along the way.

Poker is a performance discipline. It’s not much different from basketball, soccer, boxing, golf, or football, and while great performance looks different from field to field, the rules of developing it are the same and constant. The principles that work in basketball, boxing, or chess also work in Poker. What helped Olympic champions in ancient Greece, still works today.

Today more and more formerly winning players are coming home empty handed. The old, static ways — sticking with good hand selection and betting only for value — are no longer working. Most professionals were used to winning without much resistance. Now, as the games are tougher, they are overwhelmed— technically and emotionally. Poker is changing so fast that ongoing success is guaranteed to no one any more. If you want to survive this brutal selection, more than ever you need creativity, flexibility, discipline, and the skills to sustain an enhanced learning process under rough conditions.

Here's what Tommy Angelo, author of Elements of Poker, says:
"Dear Florian Rossner, where were you years ago when I was grinding out a living playing poker? My life would have been so much easier, and far more profitable, if I'd had this book to solve the problems I struggled with on my own. Dear reader, if you want and need more discipline in your poker, read this book. If you and poker have lost that loving feeling, read this book. Poker is hard, and it hurts -- and this book helps."

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Good advice but lacking for a B&M player 1 janvier 2013

This is a good book. The author outlines some specific strategies to improve on your own self and your poker training. I have no doubt that anyone with the desire to improve can apply these practices. However, this is mostly if not all directed for an online player and not a brick and mortar player. The author assumes you play online and use a HUD. He does not give any variation of these practices for the B&M player. Therefore the book falls short in that regard.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Top notch advice for the mental game 24 avril 2013

One of the things I've told people on my blog for many years is that you should quit buying new poker books until you have actually mastered all the concepts in the ones you already have. There's no point in buying the latest and greatest new poker book by your favorite pro if you're still playing KJo from MP after a TAG UTG raise.

Poker Hero is the exception to my rule. Poker Hero is one of the best books on getting the fire inside of you to become a better player. The book relies heavily on sports psychology and uses many examples from the sports world like the often quoted fact that Michael Jordan, one of the best players ever to play basketball, didn't make his high school basketball team when he first tried out. But despite not being a natural he had determination to be a great player and drilled, and drilled, and drilled himself into becoming great.

Most poker books give you general advice like review your hands at the end of the session and figure out what you're doing wrong. Unfortunately, they don't tell you how to figure out what you're doing wrong.

Poker Hero bridges that gap. It gives you the tools you need to identify problems, figure out the solutions, and then how to mentally prepare yourself to implement those solutions without trying to fix six or seven leaks in your game all at the same time. It's about focus, concentration, and setting measurable goals to make sure you're achieving the results you desire.

This book won't teach you how to play poker but it will teach you how to learn about poker.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great book - mental & emotional control, as well as training planning 19 février 2013

I really liked the book. I play online hyper speed heads up sit n gos where the variance is quite beastly, so I have tried to improve my mental game in various ways. Honestly, both this book and Tendler's book have helped me immensely in defeating the limiations set by my mind. While Jared Tendler's book helped me deal with lots of mental and emotional aspects, Florian's The Poker Hero has helped me not only in the mental aspect of the game, but also by providing ideas for training planning. As we know, learning and improving in poker is all about adding bricks little by little by acquiring new knowledge or replacing defective bricks with working ones. I have always been quite messy in that aspect, but this book has been very helpful for establishing a more disciplined, effective and efficient training routine. Highly recommended.

A book that goes beyond what to do with certain hands and looks at the mental challenges we face as poker players. Gives the tools to accomplish execellence in your game or anything in life.
