It makes research design and statistics approachable and students are able to grasp the material well.”

- Deborah Ragin, Montclair State University

The writing style is enjoyable. The writers write like they are talking to a student. It is approachable and easy to understand. I have not seen this in other experimental psychology textbooks.”

- Rebecca Regeth, California University of Pennsylvania

“I love the writing style of this text. The subject level, the clarity of the arguments, the readability and interest is very appropriate the new investigators that this class prepares. The chapter organization presents a natural flow and development of the subject matter based on progression and relevance,”

Présentation de l'éditeur

Understanding psychological research by finding a problem, discovering the clues, and evaluating the evidence.

The Psychologist as Detectives introduces students to the research process. The authors treat psychological research as a detective case in which a problem is presented, clues are discovered, evidence is evaluated, and a report is prepared for consideration by peers.

Found within MySearchLab, or as a stand-alone, Operation ARA is a new “smart game” that teaches critical thinking and research methods in the context of a “save the world” story-line.

HASH(0x917fb654) étoiles sur 5 Great text for undergraduates 10 décembre 2008
Par T. A. Daniel - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié
"The Psychologist as Detective" is a great book for any undergraduate research methods class.

The authors include several real-life examples to illustrate the material presented. The text itself is wonderfully written. Everything is very clear, but also very concise. Along with the examples (which are well used and helpful), the authors keep the subject readable by including a few witty remarks and observations. The text ranges from the simple steps of the scientific method to the construction of factorial designs and three-way ANOVAs. All of it is broken down to be accessible and interesting enough to keep a student's attention.

What's left is a simple, easy to understand guide on how the experimental method works in psychology.

The text is very informative and is in very good condition. I am pleased with all of the information contained in the book and the ability to apply it to the course study. It has never been clearer to me how important good, credible research is. Methods and terminology are those I am certain I will use in my professional pursuit of a career in the sociology field. Now it is possible for me to grasp what is credible research and what is simply 'just enough information' necessary to sell a product or an idea. I highly recommend this text.
HASH(0x917fb984) étoiles sur 5 One of the best books on scientific methods ever 7 janvier 2013

This is an excellent book. I went through an M.A. program at CA State University asking to be taught what was in this book, yet never being taught it. Then I got into an M.S. program at another CA State University and this book was the required text. I was stunned. It was everything I had been asking for during my M.A. program yet was never helped with. This book is so clear regarding the scientific method and how to use it, that I will keep this as a reference text for life. The writing of this book keeps a potentially dull topic lively but most importantly, this book is clear and well-organized. The tips it gives make it very clear how one goes about conducting research and producing a scientific paper. I HIGHLY recommend this book and wish I had been given it many years ago. I actually think this should be required reading for all high school students as it is very important information that everyone should know, not just as a designer, student, scientist, but also as a consumer and one who has to gauge what statistics mean in their own lives. If I ever teach, I will figure out a way to use this book as a required text.

It got here on time and was the correct one for my class but the book itself doesn't hold up very well. I'm about half way through my class and I've had two of the pages fall out during normal use. I've glued them back in with super glue but still. This book needs to be made with a better binding so the pages don't fall out.

The chapters are easy to read and short enough to not get bored of. The order of the information in the book versus the lay out in the class does not match up. I suggest getting as far into it as possible before class starts if you take this course. Besides that, as far as textbooks go, this one is pleasant.
