Don and Faith Paxton just moved into the house of their dreams--a 1929 remodel. Add a great job and two vibrant twins, and there's nothing else a family could ask for. Except for some peace. Before the smell of new paint fades away, the house's history starts seeping through. From an attic room, Don's transformation commences. His dreams become nightmares, his actions become inexplicable, and he slowly becomes the house. Can he save himself and his family before the transformation is complete? Or, will the room consume them all?

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The Room is chilling, suspenseful, and above all else, creepy. 3 avril 2014

Some authors tell a story, others paint a vibrant picture in your mind. The Room falls into the latter. One of the most intriguing elements of The Room is the author's ability to draw you into his world.

The Room is a compelling story of possession, evil, and the struggle of a family dealing with the unknown. Derek Blass has a way of permeating your mind with his vivid storytelling. You can sense the character's emotions, see the world they live in, and, most of all, feel their fear.

The horror genre is a difficult one, as there is a fine line between scary and cheesy, but The Room delivers. I read the book quickly and was impressed by how it grabbed my attention and kept me wanting more. Derek Blass is a master of suspense, knowing exactly how much to give you and hook you in.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Room and I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The Room is a fun and dark tale 28 juin 2014

A fan of Enemy in Blue, I've decided to keep tabs on Derek Blass as an up and coming author. I like the direction that he's headed and, with each book, his writing style matures and progresses. It's an adventure to follow along as he progresses as a writer.

I don't know what it is about horror/thriller stories right now, but they're in for me. Movies, books, I'm devouring all of it. This made The Room a no-brainer. I scooped it up and was pleasantly delighted to find developed characters with robust backstories above and beyond the written pages of this tale. It lends a more tangible feel to the reality.

I also enjoy that the story is set in Denver, a location I know well. At the same time, I learned about the history of the city through reading this and that was a bonus.

The trouble with horror these days is that the stories can be too short and often teeter towards the melodramatic. That isn't the case in Blass' latest work. The story has room to breathe and grow and the reader is encouraged to carry on by having enough left in the shadows to pique your interest. When it seems to border on the predictable, Blass changes gears to keep it fresh. You can feel the icy touch of evil in the tale as your eyes flit across the page and it makes you stop and think about the history of your living situation.

Looking at the previous reviews, I can see that this book may not be for everyone. I think it is fun, dark, lively, and easy to read. It's definitely worth picking up.

I chose this rating because it was enjoyable from the very start. It keeps you on the end of your seat. Like the location of Denver which I know better. Both of Derek's were great and this was really different. Keep up the great writing Derek.

I found most of the book very interesting and kept sneaking time to read a little more. I kept picturing Detective Montoya as Columbo, ha, ha! This is the fastest book I've finished in a long time. My only problem was the very end of the book, I mean the last paragraph, and the use of the word 'wry' in the very last sentence - which left me a little unsure of what was happening. I thought I knew, right up till then, but then I wondered if it had all been a bad trick and not as it seemed while happening, or indeed was a happy ending for some of them, anyway. I don't like not knowing for sure, as it leaves a 'no closure' feeling for me. Minus one star for leaving me unsure.

This is a story about evil spirits that are attached to the house. There were not many paranormal scares. The characters were interesting but not spectacular in my view. If you like a tame horror than you may like this story. My taste leans more to the extreme. It's a good story if you like a scary that is not too scary.
