THE PEARL SAVAGE:

The Pearl Savage—where 19th century Victorian America collides with biospheres fueled by steam-punk technology. An epic romance between a "fated" princess and a Savage unfolds despite every obstacle thrown in their way...

Clara Williamson is a princess living in a dark post-apocalyptic future of bio-spheres fashioned to protect 1890s America. A time when marriages are arranged for things other than love. When her sadistic mother betroths her to an abusive prince from a neighboring sphere to secure their future in illicit trade, Clara determines to escape.

Leaving a life of familiar terror behind, she embraces the dangers of Outside that no one from the spheres has seen in nearly a century and a half.

Clara escapes tyranny only to discover the sphere-dwellers are not the only people who survived the cataclysmic events of one hundred forty years prior. She finds herself trapped, unable to return to the abusive life of the sphere while facing certain danger Outside.

Can Clara find love and freedom with the peril that threatens to consume her?

THE SAVAGE BLOOD:

Clara has become queen and yearns to unlock the puzzle of her lineage. Matthew and Bracus, survivors of the post-apocalyptic Outside and protectors of the Band, accompany Clara in her journey to the eastern seaboard to discover her true family.

Trouble seeks them in the form of the Fragment, a maundering group of nomadic criminals, who thrive on exploitation and control. When the faction absorbs Prince Frederic into their ranks, they undertake a plan to involve Clara and her home sphere in a dangerous scheme of coercion for their own gain.

It isn't long before Clara discovers a terrible secret about the very ones who saved the people of her kingdom from certain destruction. The Guardians are not who they seemed. Through terrible circumstances she must escape, can Clara protect herself from her own destiny and keep the integrity of her sphere intact?

Will the needs of her people, war and tribulation overwhelm her need for a love all her own?

THE SAVAGE PRINCIPLE:

King Raymond is betrothed to Princess Ada of a neighboring sphere in an arranged match not of his choosing. Travelers from a parallel world have bargained to save the future of his people and he cannot refuse their offer.

Raymond does not believe that an alliance with the Savages would result in a life-altering experience. He soon finds himself overwhelmed when an entanglement of emotion and love conspire to undermine his vow in the most unlikely place.

Rowenna, warrior female of the Band, is a much sought-after female select. When her kin agree to an offer that will unite the races of their future, they do not realize what the sacrifice will cost her.

Can the two peoples of separate societies survive the prejudicial position that has been hoisted on them? Will their sacrifice afford a future of liberty, or will heartbreak be the only consequence of their love?

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Lack of depth and subtlety makes for flat story 19 avril 2013

This is not a good story. At best it is a trashy romance with a paper facade of plot and characters, at worse it's just a trashy romance. The plot is very difficult to get into because the very first thing the story does is to club you repeatedly like a baby seal without any notion of subtlety. The queen is bad and hates her daughter. We know this because we're first told, then shown, over and over and over again in the most overt display of flat one dimensional character I've seen in a while. Followed by the prince, mister un-charming, who is displayed to have no redeeming qualities what so ever and seems to be in a competition with the queen to see who can be the most shallow character. I don't mean this as a personality flaw on the characters, but rather the writing of this book. Followed by the good guys, knight in shinning armor who enters into constant pissing contests with the queen and prince and only manages to expose these characters for what they are - really poorly written straw men. There are no moral dilemmas, no shades of grey, no ambiguity. None. What so ever. The supporting characters come in two types, romantic interests (the men of courting age) and extras (everyone else). We're told the princess has a female friend, Olivia, but in practice this character is less than a ghost. Finally this book thinks it is making a feminist point of some kind. This maybe true if it was written in 1800, but my today's standards this book is quite the contrary. Simply saying your female lead is unlady like because she works a little is not even a little feminist. Having her make her own decisions, not be defined by a man or need of a relationship, giving her meaningful friendships with courting aged men without romantic interest and best -real- friendships with other women would be a decent start. This book fails to do anything of the sort.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Decent premise, but couldn't slog through the lousy plot or incredibly bad writing. 30 novembre 2013

I hate it when a book has excellent reviews and so I waste my time reading it only to find that clearly the high reviews were "loaded" by friends and family of the author. Ok, I have no proof this is the case, but you really have to wonder when the writing is SO SO bad. I am an avid reader of romance, science fiction and anything that combines the two skillfully, so it's not the genre that turned me off. I am also one of those people who will slog through a book complaining bitterly about the stupidity of the plot device, or the character's irrational reaction to something, etc. but who usually always finishes the book anyway, just to see if it gets better. This novel was SO bad, I couldn't do it. The premise is interesting: in order to avoid a planet-wide catastrophe (asteroids), some "Guardians" erect a shield that protects a selected portion of the population. The rest are presumed to die on the outside. Fast forward 140 years and there are a series of monarchies inside the shield and what are labeled "Savages" living outside (who are more democratic). This could be a really interesting story. But the writing is terrible and the plot is just a bunch of overused tropes from romances of a bygone era. The queen is an abusive drunk who is selling her daughter to a neighboring abusive, power hungry prince so she can have their grapes (to make more wine, because you know, she's a DRUNK). She's a total lush, BUT she's savvy and crazy strong and repeatedly abuses her daughter because she's so EVIL. Yes, I capitalize because the reader is hit over the head with it again and again. I like a story where there is some subtlety. When you are abused and treated like crap and are about to be sold into slavery to a man who assures you he will rape and physically assault you regularly, there is no question that you will go be with the savages and like them a hell of a lot more than the EVIL people who were supposedly on your side. There is no guesswork or fun in this scenario. And I really hate it when violence against women is used at a plot device because it's "titillating" but really serves no true purpose. Finally, the dialogue is so incredibly stilted and boring - the author is trying to sound "historical" or something, but it is like pulling teeth reading it and it doesn't make sense either. Why do they sound like they are in some British country from a previous century when they're in Ohio and Kentucky???

I am the first to admit I am basing this on only a portion of the first book, but if you are reading reviews before considering starting this trilogy, I want to tell you what I wish I'd read before I began.

This is perhaps the longest, lamest, dumbest fantasy series in the history of the universe, with the least attractive, weakest-willed wet rag of a female protagonist ever created. It's terrible fantasy lacking in a structure other than "beautiful princess fights evil queen-almost gets raped--gets saved--almost get raped--gets saved--almost gets raped again--gets saved." It's written abysmally, I think with a thesaurus at the elbow just to give the appearance of erudition. The characters are just about 1 millimeter thick, all of them. And I can actually say that I was glad it was over. I actually forced myself to read all three books to see if, miraculously, it got better as it got longer. Wrong call. The miracle for me is that anyone bothered to actually write the second and third novels.

To read one of Tamara Rose Blodgett's books at a time, awesome! To be able to get all three of these books at once for a marathon read-a-thon was priceless!

The Pearl Savage-Set the stage and got all the world building done while taking me on a fantastic fantasy adventure! This author really knows how to write for young adults! A great story set in the future, after worldwide disaster, kind of steampunk, with so many PC/social issues and, of course the romantic side! Loved this first book of the series!

The Savage Blood-Amazing! Well worth the wait! Reading what the heroine went through, how she felt, I could swear the author was a teen, herself! For the most part, I got the feeling the characters lived with a '19th century' feel, the formality in speech, proprieties, behavior. The smattering of contemporary speech, as well as the use of informal names was brilliant! The ending has me dying to get hold of the next book!

The Savage Principle-Imagine another world where the inhabitants must live in spheres, linked by passages because they have been told the outside air is poisonous. These people have, for the most part, gone rather soft, dressing in the style of the 19th century. Yet, beings who have 'evolved' with gills roam outside the walls in Bands. They are strong, fierce and protective of their kind, particularly the females. Toss in 'the Travelers,' mysterious humans who have played 'God' with these peoples, bringing in the Fragment, criminals from their world, who wreak havoc wherever they go.

Rowenna, a select female must mate with a sphere-dweller, Raymond, soon to be the King of the Kingdom of Ohio. Their union has been prophesied. It must happen, for the future of their world. The prophesy also states that the child will be raised by Raymond and his future wife, Ada, a shrewish and vain princess from another sphere. These two must accept their fate, but their meetings are not what either of them expected. Rowenna, although young and scared finds that Raymond is a man of honor. Raymond finds Rowenna to be all he could want in a woman. Tamara Rose Blodgett has painted a world where you feel the air around you, feel the emotions of the characters, their devotion to duty. The villainous characters carry a dark, evil presence about them. I became so wrapped up in the story, I actually hated one character even more than in previous books, these characters are THAT real! Their lives become real! Their world is real! This author can write, putting more imagination into this work than many books twice its size!! I do suggest you read the series in order to appreciate what happens in book 3!

Love this series! a fantastic escape!

The Pearl Savage
Absolutely AWESOME new series! I was captive immediately by the Clara's strong personality and strength of character even in the face of great adversity. Can't wait to read more...

The Savage Blood
Once in a while you get so involved in a book that you don't see it ending. The Savage Blood definitely had me saying NO! NO! NO! It can't be done already. Loved It! This series is not the typical mechanical device based Steampunk novel, but it definitely didn't lack in imagination, great characters, or story enthrallment. My only disappoint was not knowing a release date for the next in this series.

The Savage Principal
Rowenna is a warrior even though she is female. She has many men vying for her attention but she has chosen a Band warrior for her mate. Then the travelers arrive, telling Rowenna's clan that she has been chosen to mate with the future King, Raymond, from the spheres and that Rowenna must bear a child or the travelers won't save their world.

Soon to be King, Raymond has been promised to Princess Ada from a neighboring sphere but once the travelers arrive they set in motion a series of events that will change their world forever. After explaining to the ailing King that the travelers won't help save his people unless Raymond creates a child with a SAVAGE, Raymond is told to sacrifice his health and longevity by portal travel to create a genetically enhanced child.

The sphere dwellers and the Band have not seen each other in years, rumors and stories abound. Can these two worlds come together? Who are these travelers and have they really come to save them? Will Rowenna and Raymond sacrifice their lives and hearts? You'll have to check out The Savage Principle and find out.

The Savage Principal is a novella prequel that takes place before THE PEARL SAVAGE. It gives a fantastic perspective of what took place before it all began. I loved the passion and vitality of both Raymond and Rowenna and applaud them for the choices they make. Tamara Rose Blodgett pulls you in with dialog that is written with an old world charm, then she wraps you up in a bright and eloquently describe alternate universe and makes you believe your there.

This copy of The Savage Principle was given to me by the author in exchange for a honest review.
