Présentation de l'éditeur

The sequel to the cult classic The Dice Man, available in e-book format for the first time.

Larry Rhinehart is the son of an infamous father – the renegade psychiatrist Luke Rhinehart, otherwise known as the Dice Man.

Luke became a cult figure in the seventies, inspiring thousands to follow him into the anarchic world of Dice Living, where every decision is made not by the self, but by the roll of the dice.

Larry, however, is emphatically not a follower. He has grown up to have a great respect for order and control. A wealthy Wall Street analyst, all set to marry the boss’s daughter, Larry has got life where he wants it. Until rumours begin to circulate about the reappearance of his long-vanished father – and Larry’s carefully organized world begins to look a lot less certain.

By turns funny, moving and wildly erotic, The Search for the Dice Man is a journey of the body and spirit never to be forgotten.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Enjoyable Relation of the Dice Man 21 janvier 2012

I absolutely love 'The Dice Man', so I was enormously excited about this before I read it, which made me well aware that I might be rising for a fall, but instead I was happily gratified.
The Dice Man is complete in itself, even with the open ending, so in a way, can't be tarnished by embellishment, which is just as well, because though I enjoyed this book, it comes nowhere close to The Dice Man (my favorite book of fiction), so the result of 'The Search for the Dice Man' is it fits more into the thread as an inessential, but fun companion to the former; not a co-dependent.
It is the story of Luke's son, a wealthy stock market wiz kid, becoming disillusioned with his banal, but privileged existence, the way his father did; becoming restless and reckless and finally burning bridges and being forced into navigating a larger, fuller world of self-awareness, which takes on the form of trying to find his infamous father: "The Dice Man".
Full of humor and irreverence, it is a touching and fun book that I've just inspired myself to read again. After 'The Dice Man', of course.

The Search for the Dice Man is kind of a paler, weaker re-telling of the same journey as the original book but this time by his son.

The Diceman is a fantastic read that is very much of it's time. The descent of Luke from respected psychiatrist to cult dice addict is both fascinating and, in a way, fun.

The Search for the Dice Man is the story of his son's similar journey. But, this time from up-and-coming stock broker to dice dabbler while searching for his father and visiting cults that are his father's legacy. It's a bit contrived and apart from a few scenes in Lukedom, the book is actually quite mild and follows a fairly obvious path with an ending that's not much of a surprise.

If Wall Street's catchphrase was Greed is Good, this book's catchphrase could be "Extra randomness is helpful." Not quite the punch you'd expect.

But, if you liked Diceman, it's still worth a read.

This is a very good novel that is slightly more coherent than the first and one that can easily be read on it's own. The story is really good and focuses on Larry as an adult as he tries to seek out his father, as well as his legacy. Once I got into it this kept me turning those pages and it had some of the great premises from the first book, as well as exploring some other ideas. This is well worth giving a go if you enjoyed the original book, and is also an easier read if you tried and didn't like the first one.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

A definite disappointment after having read and reread the original 'Diceman' novel over the years. I eagerly awaited the release of this book and really wanted to enjoy it but it was way too far removed from the original.....maybe just too many years have passed between writing The Diceman and this follow up I think!

I recently stumbled upon The Dice Man, and enjoyed rereading it, then passed it to my son with a silent prayer that he won' know. This Search For The Dice Man is a thin attempt at some sort of sequel. In my view it adds very few new ideas to the original unique event, but perhaps that is a reflection of the energy and inventiveness of the first book.
I would thoroughly recommend The Dice Man to anyone possessed of a healthy streak of anarchy and irreverence. I would not recommend this sequel.
