A fantasy to sink your teeth in. 15 novembre 2013
Par LorenSecretts - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
Written from an omniscient POV that is as intelligent as it is descriptive, The String Quartet is a fantasy to sink your teeth into. Though the plot revolves around a group of eighth-graders (the interaction and dialogue rings true to their age), I feel it wouldn’t be justified to pigeonhole the novel in the middle grade genre as its complexity renders it a story to be enjoyed by a wider spectrum of ages.

Shuttling back and forth from our contemporary world to a magical one, the narrator paints the evolving drama so vividly that I was completely enmeshed in the action and couldn't extricate myself until two thirty in the morning.

The author shared this ebook with me (I was asked for a frank review), and I now thank him for the literary treat. I do not use the term “literary’ loosely: Not only was The String Quartet thoroughly enjoyable but it read like a piece of literature.

I really did want to like this book. . . 17 décembre 2013

I read this book as a possibility to refer to my wife who is a K-8 librarian for possible inclusion her her libraries' collections. I cannot. The story and characters would be engaging were it not for the constant distraction of amphibolous descriptions, grammar errors and misused words. While the story and characters, were the book written with attention to better English, would be enough to recommend it, the "YA" audience it is designed for does NOT need the bad influence of poorly-written English as a corrupting influence. Much of the book seems written to the lowest standards of English of Internet chat. *sigh* (Typical example: "We must of played it. . . " MUST OF?!?! Report for remedial English IMMEDIATELY!) I could wish that literate proofreaders and a literate editor had had a hand in its publication. If the great mass of errors were corrected in a future edition, I'd gladly amend my assessment to a recommendation.

Please have someone literate proofread a future edition!

A Joy to Read 17 octobre 2013

I loved every part of this book. The characters are casual and easy to relate to, but each still possesses his/her own in-depth qualities and stories. The plot was smooth, interesting, and fun to read through. Enough backstory is provided to ensure the plot makes sense, and everything does come full circle in the end, but there is so much left untold--in a good way. I want more! This is a story rich in history--one that never leaves a reader disappointed when it comes to magic, action, and mystery.

And now I want to learn the violin... 16 février 2015

I was provided with a free copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

WOW. I can honestly say that I was not expecting to be upset when the book ended. I wanted the book to continue. I need more!

I slowing became entwined with Dawn as she traversed through life. My imagination ran with each scene, feeling as Dawn and then Abigail, seeing the experiences from difference points of view. It was interesting to see the connections weave throughout the storyline and how the characters learn in time they all have different strengths that can help each other. The people who had no or bad connections slowly evolve into friends as they see each other and themselves in a different light.

This is a great chapter book for children or adults. It's a book that can be discussed for fun and/or lessons learned. It's a book that can be shared as a family or as peaceful quiet downtime. I really hope book 2 is just as amazing.

GREAT BOOK!! 8 décembre 2013
Par Sophie - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
In a nut shell: this book is really interesting. It's something different that doesn't include a vampire vs werewolf love triangle or anything of the sort. It's not disappointing either, it's right. Just right.

The characters: the characters are interesting actually, just like the book, they're dynamic and realistic, and each and every one of them brings something to plot.

The plot, that's original. It weakens a little in the middle, and occasionally the writing becomes really academic, which can be a bad thing in YA but for this book, I think it actually works.

Notes: I know I haven't given anything away, but that's on purpose! You'll have to read it to know what I'm talking about...
