I liked the first two books in this SF series so I decided to sample this third one. I began reading "Human Equations," a captivating tale--except that the sample ended before the story did. Thinking I might find the story as a public domain freebie in the Kindle store, I looked it up. Ouch! It wasn't free. Rather, it was a 19-page short story being sold for a buck--the same price as this entire, gigantic set. No brainer. I ordered this set to get the one story I wanted to finish reading and, ultimately, many other treasures as well. True to form with this series, some are clunkers, but the majority are very entertaining--and you can't fault the price. I recommend this and all the other megapacks for some pleasant, often exciting, but always interesting, escapist reading pleasure.

An excellent selection of 26 excellent scifi stories by excellent authors for the excellent price of $0.99. Third volume in this excellent series.
Anybody have a thesaurus I could borrow? My writing teacher says I need one, and I've always wanted a reptile for a pet.
Seriously an ex... I mean great deal.

I am over halfway through the short stories. In the majority they are very cleverly conceived short stories that have kept my attention. Some of the included stories are not to my taste which is to be expected.

There are two problems with this is a Kindle Book. Some page turns are missing a line. I have mostly been able to figure out the missing couple of words but it is annoying.
The second problem is the lack of an index. I think with short stories it is important to index the stories for quick reference.

The Third Science Fiction Megapack was the first of this series of books that I read and it inspired me to read the rest of the series. As I have stated in other reviews, I enjoy reading compilations such as this book as it offers me an opportunity to read the works of authors I have never heard of before and to sample their writing styles. If I really enjoy someone’s particular style, I go looking for more stories by that author to download and read for my enjoyment. This is what happened with this book. It introduced me to H. Beam Piper and reintroduced me to C.M. Kornbluth who work, “The Little Black Bag” I had seen presented in an episode of “Night Gallery” back in the 70’s.
Of this collection, I enjoyed the following short stories the most:
“Time Bum,” by C.M. Kornbluth
“Not Stupid Enough,” by George H. Scithers
“Night of the Squealers,” by Michael McCarty and Mark McLaughlin
“The Einstein-Rosen Hunter-Gatherer Society,” by George S. Walker
“Wind,” by Charles L. Fontenay
“Star Mother,” by Robert F. Young
“The Sky Is Falling,” by Lester Del Rey
I particularly enjoyed “Not Stupid Enough”, which is a very funny short story filled with a combination of wit and wisdom.
However, out of all the stories in this book, I just loved “Little Fuzzy” by H. Beam Piper. It is a great story and I was enthralled by it. When I have time I’ll probably re-read it just for fun.
Overall, it was a great book and well worth the time spent reading it.

Love science fiction. These stories are short and vibrant. They give a good impression of whether would like to read more books by the authors.
