Revue de presse

“The book, with the exceptions mentioned, may be read by nearly anyone. It is a simple and straight way to make oneself an idea about a movement it is now impossible not to know.”  ( Metapsychology , 19 November 2013) “Edited by the internationally acclaimed founders of the philosophy and social movement of transhumanism, The Transhumanist Reader is an indispensable guide to our current state of knowledge of the quest to expand the frontiers of human nature.”  ( LIS Trends , 8 March 2013) Review appeared in The Guardian 1st July 2013

Quatrième de couverture

The rapid pace of emerging technologies is playing an increasingly important role in overcoming fundamental human limitations. The Transhumanist Reader presents the first authoritative and comprehensive survey of the origins and current state of transhumanist thinking regarding technology’s impact on the future of humanity. Featuring core writings by seminal thinkers in the speculative possibilities of the posthuman condition, essays address key philosophical arguments for and against human enhancement, explore the inevitability of life extension, and consider possible solutions to the growing issues of social and ethical implications and concerns. A multidisciplinary approach to themes of transhumanism reveals the full breadth of the philosophical study of issues relating to human enhancement, human futures, and the distinct issues and arguments used for the advancement and transformation of the human condition. Edited by the internationally acclaimed founders of the philosophy and social movement of transhumanism, The Transhumanist Reader is an indispensable guide to our current state of knowledge of the quest to expand the frontiers of human nature.

I recently finished this book and already know that I will be revisiting many of the eloquent passages in it. The writing is excellent. The editing is fantastic. And the organization of the book is also very good. The Transhumanist Reader will be on a prominent place on my reading shelf for many years to come.

Transhumanists Stake Their Claim 26 août 2013
Par wwallach - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
WIth this volume transhumanism stakes its claim to be an intellectual and social movement of note. That those who embrace the transformation of humanity through emerging technologies have a sense that their beliefs embody a significant movement that is giving form to both the present and the future is not surprising. What is truly remarkable is the breadth of interests, the array of perspectives, and the depth of thought touched upon by the contributors to these essays. A significant portion of the leaders of transhumanism are represented in The Transhumanist Reader. That alone makes the book worth reading. There is the sense that many of the writers feel they need to defend themselves against their critics. In this they provide some deeply reflective and creative, although not always convincing, arguments. Whether history looks back on transhumanism as an important philosophical movement, however, will only be partially determined by the ideas of its leading proponents. Ultimately these thinkers will be judged by whether their vision of a radical transformation of humanities due to emerging technological possibilities truly occurs.

Whoops! I made a mistake 19 juin 2013

What I needed to write about this book, I actually wrote it about " The Tranhumanist Wager " but it turns out that the same comments really apply to both books. So I must repeat the same comments I made about the latter. Simply, if you had any doubts about Transhumanism, if you thought you knew about Transhumanism but was not sure, if you thought you were a Transhumanist but was not sure, this is the book to read to clear things out. Now I know: I am a Transhumanist through and through. And I have no apologies.

Greatest minds under 1 book. Cannot go wrong! 13 mai 2013

If you have any interest in the future, you must check this book out. So many great authors and thinkers, Part VIII Future Trajectories, A Critical Discussion of Vinge's Singularity Concept, David Brin, Damien Broderick, Nick Bostrom, Alexander "Sasha" Chislenko, Robin Hanson, Max More, Michael Nielsen, and Anders Sandberg blew me away. These are incredible times to be alive!

Humanities Future 20 mai 2013
Par David J. Kelley - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
one way or the other humanity is progressing and short of a disaster there is nothing we can do. Already we are all 'trans-human' just through the use of our smart phones and the various trends that permeate our society clearly are forcing us in that direction. The transhumanist reader gives you a ground connection to with the thought leadership around Transhumanity, what it is and where its going. If your interested in where we are going as a species this is a must read.
