Présentation de l'éditeur

Passion and scandal collide in New York Times bestselling author Julia London's brand-new series about four sisters determined to rescue themselves from ruin…

Desperate times call for daring measures as Honor Cabot, the eldest stepdaughter of the wealthy Earl of Beckington, awaits her family's ruin. Upon the earl's death she and her sisters stand to lose the luxury of their grand home—and their place on the pedestal of society—to their stepbrother and his social-climbing fiancée. Forced to act quickly, Honor makes a devil's bargain with the only rogue in London who can seduce her stepbrother's fiancée out of the Cabots' lives for good.

An illegitimate son of a duke, George Easton was born of scandal and grows his fortune through dangerous risks. But now he and Honor are dabbling in a perilous dance of seduction that puts her reputation and his jaded heart on the line. And as unexpected desire threatens to change the rules of their secret game, the stakes may become too high even for a notorious gambler and a determined, free-spirited debutante to handle.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Schemes, Secrets, and Romance 25 février 2014
Par Farrah - Publié sur
A fun historical romance full of schemes and secrets, The Trouble with Honor was a lovely read. I really enjoyed reading this book. The romance, the scheming, the scandal: it was all wonderful.

Honor was a good heroine, though I had my issues with her. On one had, she was feisty, independent, and very loyal to her family. She would do anything to take care of her sisters. On the other hand, she had a tendency to be immature and she acted spoiled several times. She tended to steamroll right over people's feelings in her determination to get what she wanted. Regardless, I still liked her, though she wasn't my favorite heroine.

George was wonderful, for the most part. He was sweet and determined to make the woman he loved happy. He knew his place in society was precarious at best, so he wanted to be sure he could take care of her. His stubbornness was a bit frustrating, particularly when it resulted in Honor being publicly humiliated. But, for the most part, I thought he was sweet.

The romance was great. Honor and George were sweet together, despite both of their stubbornness. And there was a ton of chemistry between them that led to some steamy moments. They were a lovely couple.

The plot was fast paced. I was kept interested the entire way through. There were tons of schemes and antics that kept me entertained, and a few surprises along the way. I really enjoyed the story and I thought the ending was lovely. I'm excited to see what happens next with Grace's story.

The Trouble with Honor was a fantastic historical romance. I really enjoyed reading this wonderful book. Romance lovers, this is a book worth reading.

First things first! There should be a disclaimer on this book: This Ain’t Your Granny’s Historical!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’ve got a go-to soft spot for Julia London’s books. She’s written over 30 now and I’m pretty sure I’ve read every single one, so to say I know what to expect from her, wouldn’t be an exaggeration.

Well, I truly didn’t see this one coming!

Honor Cabot is a heroine who knows what she wants and doesn’t let anything stop her from getting it. I’ve read a couple reviews where people think she’s spoiled, but I believe she’s anything but. These reviews are clearly written by people who haven’t grown up reading Regencies for decades like I have and show a true lack of understanding of the mores of the era. Honor is ahead of her time and realizes she must work within the parameters that society has placed on her to change the outcome of her life.

George Easton is the bastard son of nobility in a time when anyone considered less than “quality” of the “ton” were shunned unless well and truly connected (such is George). He fights to prove to society that his standing is just as equal as those born on the right side of the sheets. Although he desires to be accepted by his peers, George is no school boy and makes bold decisions and takes large risks with his finances.

When the story opens we’re immediately thrust back in time and are reading an updated version of Austen. We watch as a jaded bastard, Easton, is well and truly snared. He’s so sure of himself and I dare any romance reader not to smile with smug satisfaction and cheer for Honor and laugh at George’s arrogance by the end of the first chapter.

I loathe spoilers so you won’t find any here other than the fact that Honor is ahead of her time and knows what she wants in more ways than one.

As George says: Such a bold girl. Unapologetic. Brave. A woman who sought her pleasure as she sought her place in the world.

Julia London doesn’t skimp on the spice. Once Honor’s passion is aroused by George, let’s just say a potted palm or dark balcony are all that are required for George to prove a point or an eager Honor to explore her budding passion. When the deed is finally done, I cheered out loud! After watching George take the upper hand during many of their passionate encounters, it was refreshing to see Honor take the lead during their consummation.

George is definitely an Alpha hero but Honor is a Heroine for today. If you’re looking for Richard Gere to sweep in and carry Debra Winger off from her factory job, go rent a video. If you are looking for a woman with a backbone who won’t take “no” for an answer, then this is the book for you. I give The Trouble with Honor by Julia London 5 out of 5 stars!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 The Trouble with Honor... 14 avril 2014

Format:Poche|Commentaire client Vine pour produit gratuit (De quoi s'agit-il?) she has none. I really didn't like The Trouble with Honor. Honor Cabot is selfish, conniving, and manipulative and ends up being uselessly pathetic. In an effort to thwart her step brother and destroy any possibility at a happy marriage she convinces George to seduce his fiance Monica away from him. For some reason these two hate each other. I can understand why Monica does not like Honor but I cannot understand why Honor does not like Monica. Perhaps it is because Monica holds her accountable for her actions? All in all Honor is despicable and George is useless and weak. This was by far the worst book I have ready by Julia London. And I like her work.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Oh Yum! 25 février 2014

Oh Yum! This book sizzles with sexual tension and romance. It is a page turner from the beginning. The wonderfully nuanced characters are spot on. We have the feisty, slightly spoiled, head strong debutante and the penultimate rake. She is trying to save herself and her sisters from ruin and he is on a downward spiral of losing his entire fortune. They have an instant chemistry that neither can deny although they do their best. He can’t keep his hands off of her and she can’t seem to refuse him. The side characters of the slightly vacant stepbrother, the social climbing fiancé, the serious sister, the wise beyond her years sister and the young attention grabbing sister make this a fun, believable read.
I highly recommend this book to all Historical Romance lovers.

Julia London has done it again. She's spun pure historical gold with THE TROUBLE WITH HONOR. It's a fast paced and sensuous read from start to finish. George Easton, a jaded bastard son of an Earl and cousin to the King, as well as a notorious gambler, isn't even aware he’s lost his heart to the daring debutante, Honor Cabot, on their very first meeting.
Through Honor's urging they enter into a dubious scheme to keep Honor's step-brother from marrying a woman who's been her social rival for years. Her soon to be sister-in-law has vowed to move Honor, her three sisters and their ailing mother out of London and into a country estate with only a small stipend to live on once she is married to Honor's step-brother.
It is only a matter of time before Honor's fire melts George's icy exterior and the steam turns to sizzle. They are like magnets and you can feel them draw toward one another when they share the same page. You can't wait for them to touch. And when they touch, you don't want them to stop.
Honor is strong from the start and goes after what she wants. While some would see this as spoiled, I saw her determined to have her own way in a day and age where most women could not.
George lives by his own very disciplined set of standards and though he takes risks with his standing in the Ton he feels the need to protect Honors. Even against her own wishes and his own desires.
If you are wanting to read about a damsel in distress who is waiting to be rescued, this isn't it. However, if you want to read about a fiery heroine who refuses to bow to the whims of society. And if you want to read about a driven man who holds himself apart from a world which barely tolerates his presence. And if you want to read about how this unlikely couple could possibly overcome all of the obstacles which stand in their way of ever truly finding the future they deserve -- then you want to read THIS book.
