The Understudy is a book that I enjoyed reading, even if it was less funny than Starter for Ten, and less dense than One Day. In other words, it is a good, enjoyable read, but it is not as good as the other books by the same author. The story is very simple - Stephen is the understudy of one of the sexiest men in the world, and the story focuses on his frustrations and bad luck in life. He is a man who tries to convince himself that he can finally have his big break. Well, let's say it, he is more a failure than anything. English, realistic, occasionally funny, the book is the unsurprising story of a second best, which, unfortunately, has already been told many times before.

C'est une histoire que l'on lit avec plaisir et qui se situe dans un contexte anglais qu'il faut bien entendu connaître. L'auteur réussit très bien à rendre ses caractères plausibles.
