Descriptions du produit

Oberon and Morning Glory Zell are true pioneers of paganism-in fact, they are responsible for popularizing the term pagan! Here, presented in a unique oral history format, are the stories of their singular lives, including the founding of the Church of All Worlds, their controversial creation of living unicorns, the establishment of the Grey School of Wizardry, and Oberon's discovery (while on psychedelic drugs!) of the Gaea Thesis. Join Oberon, Morning Glory, and their influential friends as they revolutionize the modern understanding of spirituality and have a whole lot of fun while they're at it. Searching for real-life mermaids, embracing polyamory, living a life of sexual freedom, creating a worldwide community through Green Egg magazine-these are the stories of a remarkable couple who embraced the aberrant and the offbeat and created a movement in the process.

A life of love and magic... and what that means in the real world. 1 mai 2014
Par W. Seligman - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Once upon a time, a beautiful witch met a handsome wizard and they fell in love. Together they made great works of magic. They created unicorns and searched for mermaids. Many listened to their words: the seekers, the young, the wise, and the learned. And they lived...

...perhaps not "happily ever after." But they lived indeed!

Once upon a time was 1973. The wizard was Tim Zell, now Oberon Zell-Ravenheart. The witch was Morning Glory, now also bearing the last name Zell-Ravenheart. They are two of the most influential figures in the Neopagan movement. The Wizard and the Witch is an oral history of their lives, from the beginning until about 2009. Their story is told in their own words, and the words of others close to them, as organized by John C. Sulak.

Among the highlights:

- the founding of the Church of All Worlds, from a concept in a science fiction novel to a full-fledge legally-recognized religion;

- the first use of the word "pagan" to describe what we do (if Tim Zell had not used that word, I would not be able to call myself part of the Neopagan movement);

- the Witchmeet in 1973 (where the Wizard and the Witch met) and the Gnosticon in 1974 (where the Wizard and the Witch married), two of the most influential gatherings at the start of the Neopagan movement;

- how they made unicorns (for real!), and how that led to their quest for mermaids;

- how they both defined and lived the concept of a polyamorous relationship;

- the turbulent publication history of the Green Egg, arguably the most influential pagan periodical in Neopaganism;

- and for the people who want everything, more orgies than you're likely to find outside the pages of a soft-core porn novel. (Disclaimer: I have not read enough soft-core porn novels to substantiate this statement.)

Don't let me mislead you (especially with that last highlight): This is not a book that simply lists the Zell-Ravenheart's achievements. There are no detailed descriptions of rituals or magic spells (they've already published those elsewhere). This is a tales of their lives, trials, tribulations, successes, disappointments, and loves.

I found The Wizard and the Witch a fascinating read. It's one thing to learn magic and perform rituals; it's another to live a magical life. This they most surely have done.

This book forms a beautiful pair with Michael Lloyd's Bull of Heaven. BoH shows us one life lived in East Coast Paganism; WatW shows us two lives lived in mid-West and West Coast Paganism. Together they are must reading for anyone interested in Neopagan history.

A fascinating read... 20 mars 2014
Par Beeavalon - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I have read innumerable books on Pagan practices - some excellent, some derivative. I have found myself thirsting for information about those magickal pioneers who created the foundation upon which the current Pagan movement in North America was built. There are many names that those in the Pagan community are familiar with - those individuals who had the extraordinary spirit to explore that which was virtually unknown in North America in the 60's and 70's. Oberon and Morning Glory are two such spirits. Their contributions to the current community are inestimable. Some of those contributions can be found in their other books which are also highly recommended. (Oberon's "Grimoire" is one of my favourites). But there is very little out there which gives a sense of the growth of Paganism itself. To read about the lives of Oberon and Morning Glory and to get a sense of the background and history of the Pagan movement itself was exactly what I was looking for. My thirst was quenched. John Sulak (the Narrator) did a remarkable job of creating a seamless story from, what I can imagine, was a mammoth amount of life experience. I truly hope to see other such works. There is much to be learned from biography and this one, I definitely recommend.

Honestly Captivating 22 mars 2014
Par Michael Banuelos - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I was extremely impressed with how this book was written. I enjoyed hearing from each individual that shared in the common experience that was being written about. You didn't just have this one sided view but many views that painted the life picture that was being expressed.

This book deals with the Journey of Oberon, Morning Glory and all those attached to their discoveries. I appreciated the complete honesty and the way that each individual voiced their perception of the experience. It was a very beautiful thing to read about the way they loved each other, the way they expressed their frustrations and yet their acceptance of being able to express those frustrations and being WHO they are. As much as this book was a life story it also is a book that forces the reader to question their own life story. It makes you really ask yourself if you are expressing yourself fully and completely with those people that you love and if you are holding yourself to your truth and with integrity.

This is not a book of how-to but a book of life. If you are looking to be taught from a how-to perspective then you will not find that here. I do wish that they would of included more story within the pagan community, more rituals and the like but I am deeply satisfied with the way this book turned out. I didn't think when I was given this book to review, that I was going to be able to do so. I didn't want to read about someones life. I am glad my intrigue by Oberon and Morning Glory won and I allowed myself to finish this book.

It has taught me quite a bit, especially making me be more aware of how I choose to express myself with the people I love as well as the world I interact with.

I'm happy... 23 février 2014

Hey Oz, I think that this is well written, very fair, and reminds us that we are all from one source. We all think, love, bleed, learn, and die the same. We just see it from different eyes. Thanks for the reminder, smiles and tears. Good Health and Peace to you and MG.

Not an magical instruction book...but a magic love story. 2 mai 2014
Par E. Cramer - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
This is the story of the coming together of two particular orbiting stars and the gathering of a galaxy similar beings.
The establishment of the CAW, the birth of Neo-Paganism, a group of people who came together and fell in love and all married each other. It also explores the progression and discovery of the lives of Oberon and Morning Glory, their experience, themselves, lovers and all within the nest of their creation. It is the love story that changed how people allow themselves to love. A love that opened the doors of perception. What more can you ask for?
