HASH(0x9c0ede88) étoiles sur 5 Best Pepper's b-sides 30 juillet 2006
Par Collin L - Publié sur Amazon.com

The Zephyr Song is a magically moving piece that comes across as pop-rock, psychedelic gem. Personally, it comes off with a little too much glamour; however this is resolved when paired with its hard, intricate guitar solos and riffs. John Frusciante's vocal harmonies intertwine majestically with the tempo and feel of the song.

The song Body Of Water is muddy and fantastic, yet somewhat dragging. It's not bad, but a song that could have been made better.

Someone, however, is an immaculate culmination of impeccably played guitar riffs and emerging vocal harmonics that make this recording a melodic masterpiece of perfection. It blends superbly with the sounds emerging from the rest of the band. A must-have for die hard and casual fans alike!

If you're looking at this review, it is most likely you're familiar with the title track, The Zephyr Song, but are more interested in picking up the b-sides. If this is the case, keep in mind that this is a two-part release on two different singles. Total b-sides: 4 - Body of Water, Someone, Out of Range and Rivers of Avalon.

Unfortunately, when these two singles were printed, the b-sides got mixed up and DO NOT MATCH the CD inserts. Therefore Part 1 lists Body of Water and Someone but the matching CD actually contains Out of Range and Rivers of Avalon. This is reversed with Part 2, listing Out of Range and Rivers of Avalon, but actually contains Body of Water and Someone.

For song hunters I recommend both to anyone interested in completed their Red Hot Chili Peppers b-sides from By The Way.

Body of Water is a high energy rock song, far more rock than funk. Sounds like the recording is a little tweaked with some digital distortion, but it's not overly displeasing.

Someone is a much softer song, almost a Chili Peppers lullaby, very pretty, slow with minimal drums and heavy guitar delays.

Out of Range has a slower funk/rock sound, really awesome key changes and guitar licks on breaks and fills.

Rivers of Avalon is another fast paced rock song with lush vocals and bright background melodies.

Great songs, just make sure you know which you're buying. The songs can be found on mp3 and torrent sites, but the best quality you'll find is from these singles. Good luck and make sure you know what you're getting (and sellers, make sure you know what you're selling).

HASH(0x9d3c9018) étoiles sur 5 Superb b-sides. 29 septembre 2005

"The Zephyr Song" was the second single of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "By the Way", and like the other singles from the album was released in two parts. Each contains two studio b-sides, in the case of this release "Body of Water" and "Someone" (note that this CD may be identified by the placement of the band name BELOW the song title).

The title track is a breezy pop song, truthfully one I'm not overly fond of-- I actually quite enjoyed many pieces on "By the Way", but this one lacked any real bite to it.

"Body of Water" is an intriguing piece as a b-side-- it actually sounds more like a Seattle alternative piece than an L.A. alternative piece, with sludgy guitars and a two part harmony on the vocal. But the real gem on this is "Someone"-- a beautiful ballad with a fantastic guitar line washed in superb vocal harmonies, it stands up as one of the best ballads the Peppers have ever done, even if it betrays its Burt Bacharach/Phil Spector/Brian Wilson lineage.

All in all, this one is well worth acquiring, even for more casual fans, the two b-sides are superb. Recommended.

HASH(0x9c220ea0) étoiles sur 5 2 different sounding B-sides 7 juillet 2003
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
The first b-side on this song is a good rock song with some real cool chord changes called "Body of Water". The guitar and bass work are great especially on the chorus. The backup vocals by John are really creative. The guitar sound is really fuzzy and overdriven, it sounds like something about to bubble over, very molten. "Someone" is a very gentle and very beautiful song. John's guitar tone is gorgeous and his melodies hit you in the heart. Anthony's lyrics are really nice and peaceful and his voice is hearty and warm. Chad and Flea are here too right underneath everything doing everything they need to and nothing more. Flea's bassline is nice and melodious. The back up vocals are particularly striking especially past the halfway point of the song and on the guitar solo. Enjoy!
