Présentation de l'éditeur

The days of the week were given special names so that we can know when to do what. But how did they get their names?
This interesting, inspiring and well-illustrated story for children aged five to eight years old is told by Kieran, a pagan priest. As though he is sitting in a circle with a group of curious children, he explains in detail how each day of the week was given its own name. He tells the children, in easy to understand terms, about the ancient peoples, the Nordics and Vikings, and how they chose the names according to planets and Gods that were important to them. Of course, these Gods are now mythological characters, as their existence was never physically proven. However, storytelling has been a teaching tool for many centuries now, and using characters to explain different phenomena has proven to help learners to better understand the topic in question.
For children, they’ll be delighted by the illustrations and the mysterious, superhero-like qualities of the Gods chosen for the names of the days. For adults, they may also learn a thing or two!

I'm 22 and had absolute no idea how ANY of the days got their names and hadn't even thought to learn EVER until I picked up this book. Had I not come across this book, I would have never discovered any of this and now because I've read it, my mind is forever expanded :) I haven't seen a book this unique in a really long time and am kind of baffled and really thankful that I was able to read it and make discoveries about how ancient traditions and whatnot have worked their ways into the naming of the days, and how a lot of that is still around today but 99% of people don't know it! So awesome! Pick this book up right away!

I love mythology but I didn't know anything about this. This book really opened my eyes to how the days of the week came about. It also really appealed to me because I love mythology and that is a big part of this book. It's an enjoyable read and the art is excellent as well!

This was recommended to me by a friend. On seeing the cover I was immediately intrigued, as I am drawn toward mystery. My son is 7-years-old and on seeing the first illustration he urged me to read the story to him 'at once'. I'm not sure who was more fascinated; him or me! I have heard that the names of the days of the week were taken from names of gods and planets, but that's about all I knew. This story made everything clear to me and my son. Kieran is a great teacher - I often wish we still had teachers like him today! Overall, a great book with outstanding illustrations to match. I recommend it, not only as a 'good read' but as an educational one, too. Fascinating!

Professor Frantz takes a unique approach to combining learning and storytelling to give children their first glimpse into mythology. He compares mythological characters to superheroes to tell how the days of the week were named. The storytelling is outstanding breaking down a sometimes complex subject into easy words for 5-8 year olds to understand. Adding a wonderful blend of comic book illustrations and you have an amazing story that is sure to please. Take it from someone who found mythology daunting this is wonderful for even adults to enjoy. Sit back with your children and take a wonderful journey to find out more about the days of the week.
