Présentation de l'éditeur

IDENTIFYING INFORMATION: Peter Hunt Welch is a 20-year-old single Caucasian male who was residing in Bar Harbor, Maine this summer. He is a University of Maine at Orono student with no prior psychiatric history, who was admitted to the Acadia Hospital on an involuntary basis due to an acute level of confusion and disorganization, both behaviorally and cognitively. He was evaluated at MDI and was transferred from that facility due to psychosis, impulse thoughts, delusions, and disorientation. He was felt to be a risk to himself and others due to his high level of disorganization and disorientation and impulsivity. He did not know where he was. He believed that he had murdered his friend by sucking out his soul. The patient was also reporting, upon admission, that he could see, smell, hear and touch God. She as an acid smoky smell. Patient is an unreliable historian. He initially denied any alcohol or drug use, but later on admitted to having had LSD on several occasions. He also acknowledged the use of heroin, crack, cocaine, mushrooms, ecstasy, speed, etc. Just prior to his admission to Acadia Hospital, he had been displaying markedly abnormal behavior with confusion, illogical statements, and appearing disoriented, and as if walking in a daze.

This is the story of why someone wrote that.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A clever and insightful first-hand account of psychosis 14 octobre 2012

Excellent writing style, with dry humour and intelligent comments, and Welch comes across as being a very balanced writer who doesn't try to justify the stupidity which led to his misadventure. Reading his work gives a clever and insightful look into the mind of someone suffering from psychosis, and documents his descent into it very well indeed.

The author originally posted this story online, in full. I was fascinated to read it. Seeing it in eBook form is great.

I'm writing this review under the assumption that this book is either the same as or very similar to that which the author posted in installments on his website under the title "The Episode." I don't own a Kindle, but upon seeing that this work had not been reviewed yet, I decided I needed to give it the attention it deserves. This is a story about life, and what I believe is a true look at life from an entirely warped perspective. It offers the fascinating first-hand perspective of a sane person reflecting on his own experiences as an insane person. Please know that I mean insane in the most literal, definitive sense, as this story provided me with a new and rich understanding of the term.

While the events that took in the story place may be the result of carelessness, the author is no fool. Without reading it, some would find it easy to dismiss this as the work of a drug addled dilettante. I assure you it is not. The writing is somewhere between David Foster Wallace (I hesitated to write that, but I wrote it) and Maddox (of "The Best Page in the Universe"). It is both serious and hilarious. It's nuanced and chaotic. It is extremely entertaining.

This book is impossible to put down once you start. I think it took me all of 4 subway trips to finish it, and not because it's simple, easy or light. In fact, it's pretty heavy at times. But it's also funny, friendly and wildly entertaining. Highly recommended.

Speaking as someone who's never downed a substance more mind-altering than a Tylenol 3, I found Peter Welch's account of his misstep into madness both revelatory and gripping. Descriptions of his disrupted thought processes and behaviors throughout the fateful LSD trip and his subsequent psychosis were extraordinarily well rendered and somewhat disturbing, despite Mr. Wlelch's generous use of humorous asides and cleverly conceived phrases.

I celebrate his recovery and encourage him to continue writing. He certainly has the wit, as well as the writing skill to become a very successful author. Read this and see for yourself!

I backed this project on Kickstarter and read the eBook. I paid $35 for it and don't regret it for a second! Definitely worth a read!
