Présentation de l'éditeur

From USA TODAY Bestselling Author, C. L. Stone, read Thief, the first book in The Academy Scarab Beetle Series.
Kayli Winchester is a dirt-poor girl living out of a hotel, forced to be the parent for a drunken father and teenage brother who she's desperate to keep in school. The only way she scrapes by is to utilize her one skill: pickpocketing. But even though she's a thief she has a moral code: no kids or old ladies, only targets who can defend themselves. Not that they see her coming...

Thinking she's been working under the radar, Kayli has no idea The Academy has been watching and taking notice. Now a team that needs her skill has offered her a way out of her predicament and it's her last chance: work with them, or face jail time. Kayli resists at first, but slowly the boys reveal they can be trusted. With Marc, the straight man, Raven, the bad-boy Russian, Corey and Brandon the twins as different as night and day, and Axel their stoic leader, there's a lot Kayli can learn from these Academy guys about living on the edge of the law. If only she can stay on the good side instead of the bad.

Especially when the job they offer her is more than any of them bargained for. After it's done, the hunters have become the hunted and their target is now after Kayli. The Academy boys do their best to keep her hidden, but a thief like Kayli will never sit still for long.

Meet an all-new Academy team in Thief, the beginning of the Scarab Beetle series.

Warning: This is a new adult series. Readers of the other Academy series may need some caution as this series will contain mature sexual and violent situations and themes.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Worst book I've read in a long time. 29 octobre 2014

I honestly have no idea how this book got so many good reviews. It was a DNF for me, and even then I had to force myself to read it to around 60%.
The way this book was written seems to me like the author was going through a second childhood (or midlife crisis perhaps and took it out on her poor readers), specifically through the lovesick sex-crazed years of high school. One love interest, I can completely understand. Two makes it even more interesting. BUT FIVE? NO. That is where I draw the line. Enough about the main character DROOLING every single page about how hot every guy is. If that isn't enough she has to get into WEIRD intimate situations with like all of them (or something like that, it's been a while since I've put this godawful book down). Methinks the author wanted to see how many different variations of Marty Stus she could come up with before boring her readers half to death.
I rest my case. I wish I'd read the other one star reviews of this book and saved my $4.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 loved the idea but slowly began to dislike the main character. 25 avril 2014

It seemed that the main character ended up in bed with just about all the guys and there were kisses or almost kisses between all the main male characters. To me it all made the main character vapid and shallow. She was so confused about her feelings that she felt the need to rub up against or practically kiss all the guys? Cat in heat anyone?

1.0 étoiles sur 5 So not an adult series.. 16 mars 2014
Par Naomi - Publié sur

With all the positive reviews I bought this book curious to find a new series that I could get into. While the writing is done pretty well, the substance and maturity level are low. There is no way this should be considered "adult". The heroine is 18 but acts and thinks like she's 15, much is missing from the back story that you never find out about such as how they wind up where they are, and pick pocketing for rent money? Her brother takes several buses to get to school and your telling me she couldn't find a McDonald's that was hiring? And in 4 days time, she has managed to make out with 3 guys on the team, have a crush on the 4th, and describe in detail every curve of the 5th and yet I can't tell you anything about her other than she has long hair.
Also, apparently every guy she comes in contact with her in that four day period is completely smitten by her and yet she's living out of two book bags, wearing the guys' on the team's clothes, and rarely seems to bathe. Oh and she takes on a rich socialite with ties to a drug cartel...right.
This became annoying quick and was hard to finish.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 C.L. Stone is BRILLIANT! Where does she come up with this stuff?! 27 février 2014

Note: My review compares to the Ghost Bird series a lot so if you haven't read it, you can still see some things I pointed out for this series. If you read this and loved it without reading the GB series yet I'd suggest you get those books, too (& not because it'd help you understand the Academy world but just because they're awesome :D)

1st thought: Before reading this series, I was scared it would affect how greatly I feel for this Academy world that I started reading from the characters of the Ghost Bird series (since there are already 9 swoon worthy guys and a great heroine from there). But I mean come on, it's C.L. Stone and her s*** is amazing so I bought it as soon as it was available despite my wariness.

2nd thought: I'm towards the beginning of the book and I'm like holy moley, Wil the "nerdling" from the Ghost Bird series is Kayli's brother! It helped me understand a little better (or at least make a better hypothesis on a few things that might happen in the future and why I feel that way). This little part is making me believe one of my suspicions might be correct, although I'm not sure. It just makes me excited to see how everything plays out. You have got to have some major talent to make two different series of the same book world jive and time so well without clashing in a way that discourages you from one or the other.

3rd thought: This is more about the characters in reference to the Ghost Bird series, For those of you have read both, Kayli is so different from Sang yet so much alike. Whereas Sang is a bit shy-ish and wouldn't hurt a fly (unless necessary), Kayli isn't afraid to wrestle around and play rough. She can pickpocket whereas Sang can't (lol). I think the easiest way to say it is that Kayli can stand up for her self in a way you notice whereas Sang does it in a sort of subtle way. If you liked Sang, you'd like Kayli in that they aren't afraid to dive in head first to help someone. Summing it up? They've got big hearts are smart, caring, and loyal beings.

4th thought: Marc, Axel, Raven, and the twins Brandon and Corey are just as great as the other guys in the Academy and I love reading about them. Don't get me wrong, I love the slow yet progressive pace Sang and the others relationships have in the GB series and I wouldn't change that for anything, but this series kind of gives me my fix when it comes to kisses and such things that I can't wait to happen for Sang. :)

It's like the author reads my fantasy mind when it comes to having the heroines in her book being cared for by swoon worthy guys a) without under or over doing it b) without it being to trashy or annoying c) without it just being sex sex sex and no story and d) without the heroine being whiny, pushy, or stupid. Yes, they can make mistakes and have misunderstandings, but it's never been like "Why couldn't that have happened in another way?!" for me. The relationships actually develop and grow, nothing is super rushed, there are some witty and humorous dialogue, and enough goes on to keep you on your toes.

Reading the little snippets for the future books, Liar and what I now know the 6th book of the Ghost Bird series to be called Push and Shove, I am super duper excited for June and the summer to come for them!! I will definitely be re-reading her books a lot 'til that time comes.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Not for me. 29 mars 2014

What on earth? I bought this book because of all the 5 star reviews and am completely disappointed. I will read books with a love triangle occasionally, but this was like a love pentagon, even hexagon! Kayli, the heroine, kisses pretty much every guy in the book and 'has feelings' for all of them. I was hoping that eventually she would choose one... Nope! She came off as a weak and indecisive little girl who led everyone around. Then there's the unbelievable plot... Ugh.
