Présentation de l'éditeur

My name is Dagan. There are few alive with more blood on their hands than me.

I have lived a life of degeneracy. I have studied the teachings of the dark mage Helosis and walked the path of the dead. I have been to the shadowrealm and emerged with my soul intact. I have challenged the Black Brotherhood and ridden with the Knights of Valamor as a brother-in-arms. I have spoken to Xune.

I've killed indiscriminately—for money, for fame. For vengeance.

When I was young, I fell in love with a princess and was punished by her death. I have scampered, begged, and thieved. I have been homeless. I have ruled the greatest city ever built.

I began a succession war. I alone know who lifted the Seals of Regor—and how. I was there when magic was restored to this world. If I'd been born in a different age, I would have been the greatest sorcerer known to man.

My name is Dagan. This is my tale.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 As Good as Rothfuss 29 mars 2014

Due to the nature of the framing device, this book will inevitably be compared to The Kingkiller Chronicles. Both of them involve a mysterious man of power and experience telling his life story in a tavern. But that's where the comparison ends. This book is much darker than Rothfuss, and I liked it perhaps a little more. It's certainly one of the best self-published books that I have read this year.

The setting is fascinating and well-realized. The villains are believably bad, within the confines of the story. Dagan makes for an interesting hero, with an aura of mystery lingering about him. I liked the plot and thought it was paced well and logical. I would like to know more about the world of the Ashes Saga and what happens to make Dagan whatever he is. The book is a little short, but on the other hand, it doesn't meander. Some people pad their story with a lot of unnecessary extras, but Knight keeps it lean and mean.

I'll be buying the second one when it comes out. And I recommend that you buy this one.

I have never written a book review before but after reading this most excellent book I felt I must comment. I read three to four books a week so I spend a lot of time reading. This book was simply fantastic. As many have mentioned it did remind me of "The Name of the Wind" and I mean that as praise. One of the best fantasy books I have read in years and I am including established authors in that statement. My only complaint is that it was way too short. I loved it so much I wanted more. I did not want it to end. I will absolutely buy the next book in the series and look forward to reading any thing written by this author in the future. Best wishes Mr. Knight.

No, not remotely like Rothfuss. There is no craft, no character development, no style, and not even a glimmer of art. I'd say this was more for a younger reader based on the short sentences and paragraphs but then some of the narration (such as molestation/rape) is definitely not for young adult readers. That a previous reviewer wrote that this piece surpasses Rothfuss makes me angry. If you just want something to read that doesn't cost much, go for it; but you'd be better off rereading something else rather than this trash.

Oh hello fellow readers who long for a book that is fast paced, imaginative, the start of a multi book series, and is just really well written!

Oh and if you enjoyed _In the name of the wind_, you need to buy and start reading this immediately. Post haste!

The first book takes us through a few of the formative years of our hero/anti-hero dagan. We move fast and his life basically is just utterly horrible, yet there is an inner strength and glow to him. And that keeps him going and us, the reader, going too. How will he overcome? When and HOW will he learn all of the amazing skills that he seems to know?

The author does an AMAZING job of world building and laying the fragments of little tales and stories to build a really complex and deep fantasy world.

There are so few books out these days that can make you stay up til 5 am for just one more chapter. This is one of them!

And only a week or two until book 2!!! Join the ride guys!

If I could give this zero stars, I would. It's terribly written, with poor punctuation and misused words throughout. I'm glad that I only paid $.99 for it, yet still irked that I paid even that much for this drivel. It's so bad that I just couldn't bear the thought of even trying to finish it, and I cannot comprehend how any sane person could compare this to Patrick Rothfuss (who is a genius). Don't waste your time or money on this book.
