Présentation de l'éditeur

This Is Gonna Hurt is music, photography, and life through the distorted lens of Nikki Sixx, bassist for heavy metal rock band Mötley Crüe’s and the New York Times bestselling author of The Heroin Diaries. A combination of powerful prose and dramatic photographs, This Is Gonna Hurt is an arresting, deeply personal look through the eyes of a real rock star at a stark, post-addiction world.

Quatrième de couverture

This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography And Life Through The Distorted Lens Of Nikki Sixx, is part photo, part journal—but all Nikki Sixx. It is a collection of compelling photography and stories that capture the rage, love, optimism, darkness, and determination that shape his work. Combining the raw authenticity that defined his New York Times Bestseller The Heroin Diaries with a photographic journey, This Is Gonna Hurt chronicles Sixx's experiences—from his early years filled with toxic waste, to his success with Motley Crue, to his death from an OD and his eventual rebirth through music, photography, and love.

Love story, bad-ass rock tell-all, social commentary, family memoir, This Is Gonna Hurt offers the compelling insights of an artist and a man struggling to survive, connect, and find a happy ending—a search that fuels Sixx's being.

Outrageously amazing!! 12 avril 2011

Bottom line, this book is amazing! It's part photo chronicle and part journal, and will be accompanied by the release of an original soundtrack from SIXX AM in May. If you like Nikki, you'll love this book. The stories and pictures capture all of his creative qualities: his love, rage, optimism, darkness, and determinism. It basically covers his life from the struggles of his youth to the success of Motley Crue, to his OD on heroin, through his struggles with sobriety, and to his love of music and photography. Nikki said he wants to "take you on the journey" he is on, and he succeeds. Raw and powerful, fascinating and intriguing are words that come to mind when turning the pages. The image quality is exceptional, and they are both beautiful and scary. They successfully tell the story of a man struggling to survive, connect, and find a happy ending. Nikki incorporates stories behind the pictures and includes interviews with his subjects so you can see "what life is like for those whom society has labeled as freaks." This includes a woman who can't grow, a man over seven feel tall, and a naked obese woman. All in all, this book makes you react, which is what I think Nikki had in mind when he created it. Highly recommended!!!!

This is Gonna Hurt 13 avril 2011
Par Aaron Small - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié
In this, his second book, MÖTLEY CRÜE and SIXX: A.M. bassist NIKKI SIXX aims "to show people life through different-colored lenses," and that he certainly does by way of photographing "the oddities in life." In fact, nearly 150 photographs of amputees, midgets, drug addicts, prostitutes, the obese, the disfigured, the homeless, and the generally decrepit - all shot by Sixx - are featured in this lavish 220 page book. Ultimately, this is Sixx's "struggle to make people see that different isn't always bad." The accompanying text is comprised of personal life lessons, journal entries and musings on sobriety, creativity and music. Refusing to hold anything back, Nikki questions how Mötley "went from being best friends... to not really knowing one another." In fact he states, "The only thing bigger than my love for this band is the heartbreak it can bring me." Further revelatory details include Sixx's daily transcendental meditation, his belief that "your ego is not your amigo" and that "pain is a gift. It's an opportunity to make things better." A therapeutic process, Nikki is adamant that "this book has uncorked me in places I didn't know were stuck." Arguably the most profound statement contained within This Is Gonna Hurt reads as follows: "Don't waste your death on a half-assed life."

Soulful, Heartfelt & Thought Challenging 14 avril 2011

Sixx has done it again with this journey into the mind of an Eccentric & Captivating Artist! Through his honest, often painful recounts of some of his most devastating, yet later healing, life experiences - He gives us more than a peek into the Depths of his Soul and includes some of the things (other than drugs/alcohol) that helped him through some of his worst times. (Music, Transcendental Meditation, Books & Photography.)

The photographs in this book are a truly Unique expression of this inner turmoil & healing process. Through the nameplates of many of these dark (and to some - quite disturbing) pieces of photographic Art, we get a rare glimpse into the Soul of a man who truly believes that Beauty can be found in EVERYTHING if you just take the time to look deep enough.

I can't praise this man enough for putting himself out there so openly in trying to get such a profound message across: ACCEPTANCE & APPRECIATION for every life experience, no matter how scary or unsettling at the time... there is Beauty in ALL of it.

Namaste, Sixx! I Love Your Soul!

This is Gonna Hurt - Yeah but the truth usually does 14 avril 2011
Par Michele Risner - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié Achat vérifié
I never read "The Heroin Diaries" or was even a Motley Crue fan, but I am well aware of who Nikki Sixx is and how far he has come in his life. I got "This is Gonna Hurt" in the mail yesterday and started reading it at 9pm. I was done by 11:45 pm that same night.

He tells you from the start that "This is Gonna Hurt". He lays it all on the line, from societies perception of what is deemed beautiful to his take on music royalties and love and life in general. The truth hurts but as you read this book you know that whil it hurts, he speaks the truth.

Hie photographs are beautiful in a way I never expected. The book has inspired me and touched my heart and my mind. I know I will look at life, and people differently now.

Throughout the book are the lyrics to the songs that Nikki and his fellow Sixx:A.M. band members wrote for their upcoming album that goes along with this book. One of the songs is called "Skin".

"Paint yourself a picture of what you wish you looked like. Maybe then they just might feel an ounce of your pain. Come into focus. Step out of the shadows. It's a losing battle. There's no need to be ashamed.

They don't even know you. All they see is scars. They don't see the angel living in your heart. Let them find the real you buried deep within. And let them know with all you've got That you are not your skin.

When they start to judge you, Show them your true colors, and do unto others as you'd have done to you. Just rise above this, Kill them with your kindness. Ignorence is Blindness, they're the ones that stand to lose."

How many of us are guilty of what they talk about in the second verse? Judging people on their outward appearance? Nikki tries to show us that beauty is eveywhere and even more so in the people deemed "ugly" by society because they are not perfect.

This is definitely a book I will recommend to others and that I will share with my kids who are 22 and 18. I've tried to raise to love everyone and to be tolerant and to never judge, but you can never teach that enough.

Nikki writes in a way that you feel like you are sitting down and having a conversation with him. You can feel his pain and you pray for him to find the happiness and peace he is looking for.

Interesting read 22 juin 2011

I just finished reading this book after checking it out of my local library. I'd read "Heroin Diaries" which was awesome, and most definitely disturbing because you can see how depressed Nikki was and how he so desperately wanted out of the torture that was his life; you could see how he was single handedly destroying his life and career thru heroin, coke, and alcohol. This book is definitely different than that book. I wasn't really sure what to expect with this one. At first I thought it was just a photography book, but it's not. It also contains a story, albeit a very tame, non-focused story--meaning that the story Nikki tells isn't focused on any one particular item or issue---it's about various things that motivate(d) Nikki, or things that bother him with the human race; or just about how we, as his fans, as human beings, as friends, lovers, as whatever, need to look at life differently---or maybe not at all. I didn't think I'd like the book much, because I'm a gory detail kind of gal that wants all the smut, and since this book didn't have that, I just thought I'd skim through it and that would be that.

That is not what happened, and I actually read the entire book, and looked at Nikki's photography in detail, trying to see the subject thru his eyes and his interpretations, then thru my eyes and my interpretations. I was intrigued, and after looking at his photography and reading the story, I have even more respect for Nikki Sixx. I just can't help but point out that he went from one of the most outrageous, drug addicted, rock n' rollers ever to a highly respectable, sober, drug free artist who has shown his intelligence in his books, his photography, and his interviews, not to mention that little thing he also has called TALENT!!! This book, I think, has shown Nikki coming full circle with his life, and I just can't state enough how much I respect Nikki for releasing this book and calling a spade a spade. It is well worth reading, for the photos AND the story---it's a different side of Nikki---a calm, mature, introspective, compassionate, intelligent Nikki. I like this Nikki a lot---of course his looks don't hurt, either!
