Présentation de l'éditeur

Blogging sensation and family man Jason Good delivers a laugh-out-loud reminder that everything is easier and more fun when approached with a sense of humor—especially parenting. Each list captures a perfect (or perfectly terrible) aspect of parenthood while wholeheartedly embracing every moment: "You Deserve a Break" offers ideas for downtime, such as giving blood and untangling cords, while "Self-Help from a Three-Year-Old" collects such wisdom as "If you fall down, stay down. Someone will pick you up eventually." Sweet, sincere, and oh-so-true, this is the ideal gift for parents who could use a laugh. And isn't that every single one of them?

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Ridiculously amazing book 13 mai 2014

In the process of going from blog to book, I’ve seen so many writers ditch the raw nerve and conversational tone that made people fall in love with their magnificently brilliant thought vomit in the first place. Not Jason Good. In list after list he consistently manages to be authentic and laugh out funny without being bitter or obvious. I couldn’t pick a favorite list or even my top ten, because they were all brilliant, perfect, hilarious and so relatable. I’d would say that Jason was the perfect man, but that would be a lie, because he freely admitted to unapologetically leaving his ear-wax crusted Q-tips out for his wife to find, and that…well, that’s just effing disgusting. What is NOT a lie is saying this: “This is Ridiculous. This is Amazing,” is hands down, the best humor book about family life I have ever read.

This isn't a parenting book that happens to be funny--it's an instant comedy classic that just happens to be about parenting. While making fun of one's kids and parenting is quickly becoming ubiquitous and overdone, "This is Ridiculous, This is Amazing" transcends the genre and stands apart as something special. Like Louis CK, Jason Good possesses the ability to make us laugh in recognition of those thoughts we all have as parents by approaching them from completely innovative and unexpected angles, and like CK, he is able to do this by establishing his credentials as a father with the audience--this is a guy who obviously loves his kids and family, and the time he has spent in the trenches earns him the right to comment on the ridiculousness he observes.

This is one of the rare books I have read that is literally laugh-out-loud funny. I would recommend it to anyone who has ever had kids, but especially those who are in the middle of surviving very young ones. If, like me, you use your time in the "reading room" as a five minute refuge to hide from your kids, you're going to love having this book in there with you. Each of the 71 entries is funnier than the last--reading 2-3 of these lists is a perfect way to start off your day and a reminder that you are not alone.

Here’s why you should buy this book: People like Jason Good deserve to get paid to be professional writers. This guy is funny—absolutely—but he’s also modeling what it’s like to be a good human being (and we need more of that these days). He’s a loving dad with a great sense of humor, an understanding husband who doesn’t undervalue his partner. As someone who has been a parent for nine years, myself, I’ve found that family life can be summed up perfectly with Good’s own words: “…even suffering is kind of fun when we do it together.”

From travel tips to games that might let you nap, creative cursing to things he’ll miss when his kids grow up, the reasons why he’s fat now to the many uses of baby wipes, and the made-me-cackle-out-loud kindergarten spelling section, he’s making himself the malleable victim of his jokes, without making himself look a fool—or like a bad dad. In this book? Everybody wins.

Jason Good’s book was a fresh, fun read that reminded me I’m not alone in either my kid-induced madness or adoration of the little ones who make me that way. I can’t wait to read whatever he writes next.

This book was cute and was written in list format for people who don't have time to read. I laughed so hard I cried more than once. It was positively hysterical!

This was funny. I read some of the lists aloud to my husband, which is always a sign of fun for us. We have twins who are now 12, so we are past the ages of the kids in the book but recognized many a situation. I am thinking of picking it up for my brother-and-sister-in-law, who have a 3 year old and a brand new baby, just so they can understand a bit more of the "multiple kid" issues that can come up (and laugh at them.)

No, it's not great literature, but the lists are quick and easy, and would make a perfect bathroom book (sorry, but I do know that's when a lot of parents of young kids have time to read...) If you've had a kid ever, I bet you'll smile.Mind you, I've laughed harder at less "friendly" parenting books, ("Go the #*(@ to Sleep" comes to mind...) but this would be a more universal crowd-pleaser, I bet - safe for the grandmas to see... ;)
