I am like many readers when it comes to self-help regarding health promotion: I get most of my information from newspapers and popular magazines, and I know that the two most significant changes that will improve my health are in the areas of diet and exercise. Prior to reading this book, I had yet to incorporate many aspects of those broad-based changes into my life. What makes this book so special is that the author divides the changes into specific recommendations which are supported by scientific evidence. For example, relative to the book's title, "Thou Shalt Not Diet," the author provides scientific support for not consuming artificial sweeteners because they make you gain weight. Relative to exercise, the author provides research studies that walking rapidly is preferable to running and that it should last for 40 minutes in order for you to be in an adequate aerobic state for 30 minutes. Each of the book's seven (7) chapters includes numerous bits of prescriptive instructions. I already have integrated many of the author's pieces of advice into my life and I look forward to trying out her recipes in the chapter entitled, "Not Just another Cookbook." I purchased both the paperback and the Kindle versions so that I can have its content available to me wherever I go!

I have read many books related to health and healthy lifestyles and I found this book one of the most clearly written and genuinely inspiring to make the changes we all find so difficult. The author not only makes the case, based on scientific support, about how crucial these behavioral changes can be, but most importantly she makes them seem DOABLE. Walking quickly instead of running is just one example of a positive activity that most of us can achieve without feeling that the endgame is impossible. I highly recommend this book for both those who are far along in contemplating how they wish to be healthier and for those who are still at the starting line.

After trying to read so many health books, yet never being close to finish any of them, FINALLY a book that reaches me at eye level. I found myself reading scientific explanations about things i have heard about, but finally understood them. Unlike all of the patronizing health experts, the author talks to you in a way that gets to your heart and soul. 'Thou Shalt not Diet' has inspired me to do some serious changes in my life. I reccomend it dearly.

If you want guidance on looking after your body through your diet, here's where you'll find it. This is a no-nonsense, clear guide. It's full of common sense, written in a straightforward way, and easy to understand. The recipes are easy, too. This book has the potential to change your life.

I am in the process of reading Thou Shalt Not Diet and I'm loving it! It absolutely makes common sense and fits perfectly with my own experiences in living. I have dieted in the past and within a short time of "finishing" the diet, everything is like it was before, only worse. Leah's approach and teaching style is effective and useful. Thou Shalt Not Diet is a very easy, good read and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to live a more healthy, productive life.
