5.0 étoiles sur 5 Best Rob Colton Book Yet! 3 mars 2014
Par ShinyNickel - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle|Achat vérifié
Rob Colton has steadily published a stream of stories, novellas and books, but this may very well be his best yet (although "The Degan Incident" is a sentimental fave as the first of his works I discovered).

The first book of the "Timber Pack Chronicles" focuses on the relationship between shyly innocent but fiercely loyal Parker and the sexy and more experienced burgeoning alpha, Colton. While their growing love and friendship is central to the story, it isn't the culmination of the book. In fact, Trey, Jed, Shell (best friend's to Parker and Colton) and others share in the bulk of the story. I really enjoyed the shifting and evolving dynamics between the tight group of friends; I'm particularly eager for the series to continue with each of them headlining their own books. They are all very different, but loveable characters who will no doubt burrow deeply into your heart, and your re-read list.

Besides the usual issues with being young, gay and in love in high school (not including all the shifter drama, too!) there are several threats looming over the still loosely formed Timber Pack: a feral and mysterious werewolf is hunting Parker, the increasing violence from footballer, Seth, and the less urgent, but no less worrisome problem of meddlesome parents, pack members and various adults along the way (but hey, at least there's scorching sex, right?). Despite what appears to be a truckload of melodrama, I have to say it was surprisingly not so. All of his books, this one included, never really send me into quaking concern for the characters because that's just not RC's style- happy endings are always right around the corner, and you can recognize that fact from the onset, but I like that at times, especially from him; it's never a condescending or manipulative feel-good read, just a genuine and heartfelt story.

The characters are engaging and authentic, the editing is superb (although I think I got a glitchy first chapter with repeated paragraphs, etc. Thankfully, the rest of the book is free of blemishes so don't be daunted if you have this too), and the length is hefty for the price. Basically, you couldn't go wrong by reading Rob Colton's works; actually, you'd only be doing wrong to yourself by not downloading it. Right this minute. Now. ;)

Also, Colton is the author's pen name and is also one of the MCs. Is Parker (the other MC), the last name of the author's new husband? *sigh* That would be adorable...

#Congrats on your nuptials, Mr. Colton!!!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Don't judge this book by its cover...worth the read 23 avril 2014

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. The cover almost kept me from a really enjoyable read. Glad I took the chance as I loved the characters, the story, the build up. It was really well done. I've since re-read several times and look forward to more by this author. I hope this is the beginnings of a series. I need know what happens with Trey and Jed. Highly recommended for those looking for fully developed characters, plots and background.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 High School Teen M/M Werewolf Mating and More. . . 10 mars 2014
Par Daniel F. Bowen - Publié sur Amazon.com

Parker and Colton are high school seniors. Parker is human and Colton is of alpha potential and a werewolf. Due to pack rules Colton has to wait until Parker is 'of age' at 18 before claiming him. This on and off again interest by Colton confuses Parker. But they both feel the pull, they know they're mates.

But young love comes at a price. There's conflict from parents, from the pack, and the difficulties of finishing high school. The story was about the transition of young men becoming men. It's stepping out from your life under your parent's thumb and becoming responsible for yourself and those you love.

Parker and Colton are wonderful characters and enhance each other when they're together. One is all growly alpha possessive male type and the other submits, is loving, understanding, forgiving, and yes fearless. Both males were tested in many ways yet came out ahead, wiser and tougher and more willing to commit to each other and their pack.

The high school drama was handled well. I'm not one to enjoy teen stories because I hate high school angst and love triangles. I hate the uncertainty in dealing with immature teens. But this story didn't have that.

My only gripe is I wish there was less detailed sex and more expanding on the story. It seemed that every time Parker and Colton were together, they were hitting the sack. I ended up skipping those romps - They were just too repetitive.

Instead I would have loved to hear more about their career goals since they need income to support themselves. Then there were other questions: Will there be retaliation from Ethan's family? What about Parker's dad and his story? Who is he working for? Did Colton share what he learned with Alpha Forrest?

This is the first book in the series and while I enjoyed it, it only reached a 4 star rating for me. Not outstanding, not with as many sex scenes as it had. . . But overall it is a good story for a easy read about teen boys, werewolves, and dealing with parents and pack expectations. -- Dan's Wife

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A good book, and a great story 18 avril 2014

I must admit that the fourth star is an investment in Rob Colton…I’ll explain further down.

First off, it is a joy to find so many things changed, and so many things the same. Let’s look at what’s changed. The stories of my youth often had the same pairing of top and bottom. But in those days the expression of self hatred, especially if you were out or couldn’t “pass” was almost required. Both Colton and Jed have consciousness that is so much higher about people who are different. While we may not get all that support in the real world, writing it into our fiction is a good first step.

Now let’s discuss the erotic component. Waiting until one was 18? In my day chastity was not to be tossed aside lightly. It was thrown with great force. The sweetness of how they hold off works very well. Once Colton and Parker go all the way they do not stint. In fact, I was wondering if there was too much sex once things started. When you remember they are only 18 it isn’t really so odd. When I was 18 there was no such thing as too much sex.

Finally, I wanted to know more about the pack. How did they live? How did they work? What are their futures? One imperative of an alpha in a pack is to increase his genes in the pack. How do they do it? (I can think of several ways, but I’d rather see what Rob Colton does. Which brings me to the fourth star.

The universe he created is envisioned well enough that you can see real people living in it. And his characters are real people – they have souls and elbows (Heywood Broun wrote that, and it fits here.)

My fourth star is the hope that Rob Colton will continue writing, and longer works and more often. And please let him consider comedies of manners. The clash of two cultures is a perfect set up for that. And perhaps change focus so that sex is just part of the lives of these real growing, changing people. I cannot wait for the sequel.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Adorable high school Alpha wolf meets his pup 15 mars 2014

In his bio, Rob Colton describes himself thus: "A romantic at heart, he loves stories that feature big, burly men who find true love and happy endings." Add that those big, burly guys are total alphas who fall for slender, sweet-tempered boys and you've got the core of every book of his that I've read. It's a formula, but Colton aces it, creating feel-good stories with eminently likable characters. I find them especially refreshing for their complete lack of pretension. Colton's is not a world of billionaires or fancy-pants: there are no concert pianists or gourmet chefs or even Adonis-like good looks. Heroes have modest, ordinary-guy jobs and are really just looking for love.

Timber Pack does not depart from that basic pattern by so much as an iota, but perhaps thanks to the high school hormones, it does feature significantly more sex than other Colton stories I've read. Practically every conversation, event, meeting ends up with our adorable wolves going at it like rabbit shifters. You can't call it PWP, but this is one of those rare books where I wouldn't have minded more attention on these boys' non-sexual activities: maybe we could see them do their homework once in a while! That being said, Colton is one of the few writers I know who successfully balances hot and sweet. His growly, possessive heroes are also fundamentally good-natured, and his subs are always eager and cheerful.

Bottom Line: Colton is practically an auto-buy for me. He does a particular dynamic really well and his books just make me feel happy.
