I noticed that nobody had put up any reviews on this product and I was wondering if people were nervous that this was another rip-off book about Tintin being written to cash in on the Spielberg film. (There's a few of them out there in Kindle world.)

Let me allay your fears. This is a great book. It originally came out in the early 90s (at least that's when I bought it). Sadly, it went out of print very shortly thereafter. But, to my mind, it remains the definitive book on Tintin. It has a few chapters of introduction about Hergé's life and then proceeds to map out the story of Hergé and Tintin chronologically with a chapter dedicated to each book in the series (including the obscure ones like Tintin in the Land of the Soviets).

By the end of the book, you will know so much more about what went in to the creation of the books and how what started as a weekly cartoon strip in the children's supplement of a Catholic newspaper went on to become one of the most beloved comic book series in the world.

Thompson's prose is great - in-depth enough to get deeper into the stories - but not abstract and pretentious. This book moved me as a teenager from being a fan of the books and the stories to having a great appreciation for Hergé and his art. The only quibble people might have is that there are no illustrations in this book - there were a few black and white photos in the original edition (that I'm assuming won't be on the Kindle edition), but this is not a lavish coffee table book. But Thompson's descriptive prose is more than enough to generate enthusiasm - as long as you've got the original books on hand to refer to.

I'm eternally grateful to the publishers for bringing this book back into print (even if it's only a Kindle edition) and would have no trouble recommending this to any fan of Tintin. You won't regret reading it.
