5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent series - one of my favorites! 10 octobre 2011
Par Martin J. Preslar - Publié sur
First things first, the description of this says that Ryuji is in Junior High. That is wrong. It should say he is a Junior in High School! This is not a story of young middle-schoolers who swoon over their crushes, but a story about young people on the cusp of adulthood who, yes, swoon over their crushes. But it also has a more serious side, about the way people can be misunderstood and how rare it is to find that special someone who really understands and accepts you. The opening lines from the first light novel relays it best:

"There is something in this world which no one has ever seen. It is soft and sweet. If it is spotted, I'm sure everyone will want to have it, which is why no one has ever seen it. For this world has hidden it quite well, so that it is difficult to obtain. But, there will come a day when it is discovered by somebody. And only those who should obtain it will be able to find it."

That is the overriding theme of this story. It is full of complications, twists, turns, and misunderstandings galore, but in the end, it is about finding that special someone who can see the soft, sweet core under the rough exterior and grow to accept you for who you are, and how hard it can be to recognize when you have found them. Ryuji, Taiga, and their friends provide a fantastic story with many laughs along the way, but also plenty of moments that leave a lump in your throat.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Ami Kawashima Arrives; Things Get More Complicated in This Delightful Romantic Comedy 4 février 2012
Par Tsuyoshi - Publié sur
Things get more and more complicated in the second volume of "Toradora," a sweet romantic comedy about four high school students: Taiga, Ryuuji, Minori and Yusaku. To their great embarrassment a rumor is around in the school that Taiga and Ryuuju are currently dating. The fact is that, as you have seen in the first volume, they both are in love not with each other, but with each other's best friend. Well, that's what they say.

The story of the comic "Toradora" (based on the novels by Yuyuko Takemiya), unfolds rather slowly, giving us enough time to know more about the interesting and likable characters, especially a high school girl Taiga aka "Palmtop Tiger" and Ryuuji who is often mistaken for a school delinquent. In this volume Yusaku, so far the least impressive character of the manga series, is given a few chances to reveal his personality.

But I think the most memorable part of the book is a new character Ami Kawashima, a new transfer student in Taiga's class. She is also a kind of celebrity, working as a fashion model (not an implausible setting) and cute and klutzy as she looks, she may not be what she seems. Some "Toradora" fans like her better than Taiga, and you will know the reason later ... if not in this volume.

The series contains some serious issues, but is never depressing even at the most serious moment. The comic's overall touch remains sweet (or bitter sweet) with illustrator Zekkyo's effective artwork and humor. Enjoy it.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 Adoration to the max! 17 novembre 2013

I love this series as well as the anime, so I recommend the manga for anyone who adores the anime. This series has a very good story line unlike other school based mangas with many twists and turns throughout it. Each of the characters are unique and don't really match or copy any others from other manga stories. Taiga is by far the best character and her interactions with Ryujii just get better and better throughout each manga!

The story continues. Ain't love grand, Wait you got it wrong. Why wouldn't everyone think they were going out together. They are always together plotting and planning. No spoilers.
