Some of the recipes are from my childhood days which I had forgotten.
The rest of the recipes are great. This cook book combines the old and the new of British cooking. I would recommend this cook book for anybody home sick for your mothers cooking.

This big, beautiful book is glossy and lush. It has full color photos throughout, showing each delightful recipe in all its glory. All the traditional favorites are in here, and several more that you will want to try. This is the kinds of recipe book that makes you hungry, and it inspires you to get in the kitchen. Enjoy!

I was hosting a couples shower and they requested "Pub Food" I knew they had never been to England but wanted to expose them to new sensations so I fixed both English and American Pub Grub.
The recipes were easy to follow and ingredients easy to obtain in the Los Angeles area. Good Book!!

There are some truly Traditional British recipes in the book, along with many that simply aren't. As a Brit who grew up in a pub i London with not only the bar but a restaurant as well. Yes a rare thing a True Londoner born and bred all the way and I might add, proud of it.

This book covers a lot, and is certainly a worthwhile addition to anyone's cook book library but many of the recipes have to be taken with the preverbal "grain of salt", excuse the pun. Then when I look at them again, I think about such food as Fried Chicken. you have Kentucky fried, Maryland friend, southern fried, so a lot of the recipes while probably being British, are more regional, so I can forgive a lot. A good example of british food is a simple trifle. (which I hate to say, Americans have done in) a London trifle consist of about 7 layers staring with sponge cake, or macaroons or ratafia cakes (Lady fingers), then fruit, then the alcohol, I always make what I call my holy trinity, brandy,cointreau, and benedictine. You let that soak into the cake and fruit, then you seal it with Jelly (jello), let that set, then a layer of custard about 1/2 to 3/4 deep, then bananas sliced and laid evenly on top of the custard, top that with cream (fresh heavy cream whipped), top with coconut and pieces of shaved chocolate. Always make sure you use a big spoon to serve going all the way down to the bottom layer; Thats a LONDON version. The Lord Mayors version is lady fingers, spread with jam, covered in cream. Other area's are totally different
Anyway, it is as said a good book to add to your cook book library, so read and enjoy. I read cookbooks like a novel from the first page to the last
