Présentation de l'éditeur

Fullfilling a dream!   Kathmandu. Nepal. The Himalayas. An exotic area of the world that many people dream about visiting. Kate made that dream come true.

A casual phone call to a friend sparked the fulfillment of Kate's lifelong dream of traveling to Nepal in order to trek in the Himalayas. She jokingly mentioned to her friend Kay who was planning to start a new exercise routine that they could get fit on a trip to the Himalayas.

Within just a few weeks, Kate and Kay found themselves on a plane on the way to the adventure of a lifetime:

- seeing the gorgeous snow-capped Himalayas in person so close that it seemed that Kate could just reach out her hand to touch them

- trekking for days into areas that only the most adventurous travelers ever reach.

What Kate learned about herself during the challenging and sometimes excrutiating, but always stimulating, adventure of trekking at high altitude over rough terrain truly transformed her in ways that often did not become apparent until many years later.

Follow along with Kate as she learns more about how to expand her limits so that she can truly fulfill her dream. And maybe you will find yourself motivated to fulfill your dream as well.

At the end, read a sample of Kate's book How To Find The Heart Of Bali, an introductory guide to social and cultural Bali.

Biographie de l'auteur

Kate Benzin is originally from Chicago, but started moving around immediately after college. She is a seasoned traveler who has lived in Indonesia for most of the past 30 years since 1982 when she arrived for a 3-month contract to train people as word processors. She still lives in Indonesia because she found that Indonesia gave her the kind of adventurous life that she had been seeking. So she stayed and taught English for 14 years. When Kate needed a new direction in her working life, she changed careers and became a tour director which allowed her to continue living in Indonesia while working all over the world - Indonesia, Russia, Spain, China, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, France and more. Now she spends most of her time writing in her home/office just north of Yogyakarta in Central Java which she shares with her three Dalmatians. In her first book How To Find The Heart Of Bali, she shares insights that she gained during her many years in Indonesia. In her second book Transformative Travel in Nepal, she shares how she fulfilled a lifelong dream of trekking in the Himalayan Mountains.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Why do I work a boring job? 2 juillet 2012

After recently reading Around The World Travel (a male experience of India and the Himalaya) I was intrigued to hear a story from the same corner of the world from the opposite gender. Let's just say I was up until the early morning hours to find out how it ended. Perhaps it's just my recent pick in literature, but the theme of this book has been about free-spirit as well as discovery and I can honestly say it encourages me to think twice about my boring job. I might just have to go on a little adventure myself!

This book title "Transformative Travel" describes its content very well -
how travel (or any realized dream) can transform your life. For Kate, it was
challenging herself - unfit and in her fifties - to do treks in the Himalayas.
she accomplished a life goal which helped motivate her to do more with her life.
It is a simple lesson but a profound one...and something we should all remember
when we are burdened with all the chains of daily life....

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Really Great Book!! 1 juillet 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book about Kate's journey with her friend Kay to the Himalayas. First I loved reading Kate's history. She's an independent person who has had many adventures in life and seems fearless. This book describes how she realized her dream of trekking in the Himalayas. It's also a book about personal growth, uncertainty, courage and victory. It's also about FUN! Kate's book is very well-written. Her narrative is engaging and I felt like I was right there on the Langtang Trek with Kate and Kay. There are some beautiful photographs in the book. The book is also beautifully formatted.

I think most people who read this book will be inspired to take their own personal journey.

I highly recommend this book.

I am thoroughly perplexed at the high ratings this book received (likely all from friends of the author). Nothing transformative here. The author “Kate” takes no responsibility for her self (except for her makeup?) and is completely dependent on her guides. Maybe next time she should put in a cart and wheeled around Nepal. The book does explain why Americans in general are not liked or respected around the world.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Ill-prepared for her adventure 11 mars 2014

This is a short memoir (164 pages) of the author's trek in the Himalayas. Although it is written with self-deprecating humor, I can't get past the fact that the author was not prepared for this trek and violated or ignored much of the good advice available about an Annapurna trek. It is only exciting because her lack of readiness for her adventure put her and possibly others at risk. The reader doesn't really learn much about trekking or Nepal from this book.
