Présentation de l'éditeur

Tresjolie is a distant, backwater planet, and Wanda Waverly is the new imperial governor. Governor Waverly is very driven to change the planet from backwater to thriving member of the empire.

The people of Tresjolie are not so happy with her plans, which leads to conflict.

While dealing with the conflict, Wanda meets a native, Audra Flying Lynx. Audra is kind and lovely, and Wanda decides mixing pleasure with her life of otherwise all-business, all-the-time sounds pretty good. Up until Audra kidnaps her and forces her to a tour of the planet to see what exactly the Tresjolians are trying to protect.

Tresjolie is a novel of 97,000 words.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Nothing to like about this book 6 février 2014

I finished this book and I found it tedious work to do so. I am find myself growing bored with this writer's works and I started off really enjoying the Fox series. But there is a repetition that sets in her works the more of them you read.
By the time I finished this book, I was just damn p.o. It felt like I had read an episode of the Planeteer cartoon with a little lesbian tickle tossed into the mix as the main character preached the save the earth spiel. The thing about the save the earth dribble was that it was not done well. It was one step from sounding like a text book.
Then there was the Gone with the Wind syndrome where the big bad unfeeling boss lady is doped, kidnapped and ... but oh she comes to love and identify with her kidnappers.
I will be taking a break from Ms. Roseau's writing and suggest you do likewise on this book.

This is a GOOD book. It is so well written that the author lets you be inside the mind of the protagonist while hoping she doesn't succeed. The premise is that a dynamic, take-charge woman has just become planetary governor of a pastoral, Arcadian planet named Tresjolie. Her mission is to drag the entire planet, kicking and screaming into the (unspecified) century. She is going to industrialize, modernize, and urbanize and let no one stand in her way.

The story is written from governor Wanda Waverly's POV, and the reader is privy to her thoughts and emotions as she butts heads with the residents. Her problem is that the carefully written planetary charter takes legal precedence over imperial law, and the planetary charter requires environmental compliance for all commerce, industry and construction. Wanda is not able to force her will on the inhabitants.

While Wanda finds ways to implement her plans, the Tresjolian residents find ways to stymie her. However, neither environmentalism nor industrialization are the theme of the book, but Wanda's growth and learning. The reader is inside Wanda's head as she learns that bucolic does not mean ignorant. While Wanda grows into an appreciation for the Tresjolie lifestyle, the Tresjolie residents grow into an appreciation for some of the benefits that imperial industrialization could bring them and both parties move closer to each other as the plot thickens.

The plot is really very entertaining, but it's actually secondary to Wanda's inner journey. Perhaps Wanda changes the residents of Tresjolie as much as they change her, but the path in which this concord is finally achieved is fun to read about.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 It seems hard to forgive 27 janvier 2014

Ok, I liked the story, I wanted to give it a 4 stars, because it is more than just ok, but there were some things that did not sit well with me. First of all, I find it hard to believe someone, in this case the governor, would forgive all the things that were done to her, she did say

SPOILER....

She was drugged, raped, and kidnapped. Second, as governor, she would ensure the law is follow - specially being such a person of great integrity -, and a simple slap on the wrist does not cut it... Those are serious charges - not to mention impersonating a government officer... Yes, it is all part of the story and it ended up well, but those are serious acts... so, in the end, I think she had Stockholm syndrome rather than being in love... so I gave it a 3 star

This book was actually written by Joe P Larson who also writes under the names Julia P Lynde and Rosetta Robbins. Joe P Larson is a heterosexual male who has passed himself off as a lesbian, to the point of creating a fake Facebook account with which he friended hundreds of women and communicated with them pretending to be a lesbian. His books are poorly written with questionable editions and the story lines objectionable. This book contains kidnapping of one female by another and holding her hostage fir months. This creates a Stockholm Syndrome affect that makes me wonder how safe any woman would be in the presence of this predator.
