Présentation de l'éditeur

From best-selling author Melissa Good comes a tale of heartache, longing, family strife, lust for love, and redemption. Tropical Storm took the lesbian reading world by storm when it was first written, and it hasn't stopped entrancing audiences.

Dar Roberts, corporate raider for a multi-national tech company, is cold, practical, and merciless. She does her job with razor-sharp accuracy. Friends are a luxury she cannot allow herself, and love is something she knows she'll never attain.

Kerry Stuart left Michigan for Florida in an attempt to get away from her domineering politician father and the constraints of the overly conservative life her family forced upon her. After college she worked her way into supervision at a small tech company, only to have it taken over by Dar Roberts' organization. Her association with Dar begins in disbelief, hatred, and disappointment, but when Dar unexpectedly hires Kerry as her work assistant, the dynamics of their relationship change. Over time, a bond begins to form. But can Dar overcome years of habit and conditioning to open herself up to the uncertainty of love? And will Kerry escape from the clutches of her powerful father in order to live a better life? The answer to both questions is no - unless these two women can strengthen and cement the tenuous bond that forms between them. First they must face storms that neither expects . . . and live to tell the tale.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fell in Love with These Characters 22 décembre 1999
Par Un client - Publié sur
I had read Melissa's online Xena fan fiction, and was hesitant to venture out into her "uber" stuff, but was hooked on this after a few pages. She has created two very complex, likeable, believable characters, with whom I fell in love. Well thought-out plot, nice action, and a story of growing love that left me feeling giddy, along with the characters. Looking forward to more works by Melissa Good.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 I feel like I've found my best friends 13 mars 2000

The adventures of Dar Roberts and Kerry Stuart, set within the corporate structure of EDS (a fictional Information Service Provider, which could be compared to an AOL, or MSN) has all the elements of a good story. There is conflict, both outer, and inner conflict. There is romance...yes lots of romance, and it's potrayal of women in high positions, truly inspired me in my own business life. I was mesmerized by the first paragraph, and could not stop reading for days. Melissa Good, the author, uses her knowledge of the industry, to make situations that our two heroines get into, very credible. I feel like I've found my best friends in these characters, and can't wait for the next two follow-ups to be published.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The best romance ever 18 avril 2001
Par terri reynolds - Publié sur
I have read Melissa Good's fan fiction stories and throughly enjoyed them but I did have my doubts about Tropical Storm since I read that it was an uber story and I didnt understand what that meant, it made me a little apprehensive. After reading all of her fan fictions and deciding that she was the best author I had read in a long time I took a chance. I read it and re-read it and I thought it was the best romantic story ever written. It grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go until I had finished the whole story. I read a lot of books and ive been disappionted by how many have been good but havent made me feel, really feel that I was there watching the action and feeling what the characters were feeling, this book did that. I have bought it and if it is possible I will probably wear it out from reading it too much. It made me feel like I wanted to be them, I wanted to be kerry because I could feel how much Dar loves her, and I wanted to be Dar so I could be in love with Kerry as completely as Dar is. This book is definatley the best romance ever, well done Melissa.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fantastic debut for new author 28 juin 1999
Par "lunacy_mp" - Publié sur
Set in modern-day Miami, this terrific new novel centers on the lives of two strangers whose destinies bring them together amidst the turmoil of a hostile corporate takeover. Wealthy, brilliant and deadly, Dar Roberts has cultivated a well-earned reputation as one of the most efficient corporate raiders in the Information Technologies business. To her bosses she is a formidable weapon to be used in the never-ending struggle for power, control and profit. To the people employed by the companies she assimilates - the executive is a predator - cold and merciless. It is a reputation she is living up to as she prepares to decimate the work force of a recent acquisition. In charge of that work force is Kerry Stuart - a smart, young manager whose life had been going well until the recent turn of events. With dogged determination, Kerry has escaped the pressures of family to make her own way in the world - establishing a career and rising quickly within a small company - only to now have to face the prospect of those efforts being for naught as a disconcertingly beautiful blue-eyed shark strolls into her office. Missy's many strengths as a writer are quickly in evidence throughout the first parts of this story - rich descriptions that engage your every sense - multi-layered characterizations that draw you into the psyche of the characters and a story very much grounded in human emotions, human frailties and strengths along with the raw vulnerabilities that ultimately make us all seek the comfort of another soul. Working in the Information Technologies industry herself and a native Miamian, Missy also imbues the story with a very realistic feel. TS is one of the finest, most engaging stories I've ever read - a fantastic professional debut for a very gifted storyteller. It gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Good, but had problems 26 avril 2004
Par "nation9903" - Publié sur
This was the first "uber" piece I had ever read and I was pleasantly surprised by what a good story it was. I didn't know what to expect in the beginning, and even had a hard time getting past the first chapter. But, I persisted and made it through. Boy was I glad that I did. Ms. Good has written about two very strong characters who are different as night and day. I found myself intrigued by their relationship and couldn't wait to read more. I have now read all of the DaK series and would still say that this one is my favorite. However....
What I didn't like was the large amount of inconsistency in the story. At first Kerry's siter's name is Susan, then it's Angela. Her father's name is Kevin, then Roger. Kerry's personnel file says she's 26, but she tells Dar she's 27 (okay, I can overlook a birthday). There are at least four or five other inconsistencies that I can't think of right now...but it bugged me...a lot. The grammar was fine, in my opinion, but there were some typos which should have been caught during editing. And I don't buy Dar working for ILS for 15 years when she's only 30 (I may be bleeding into some of the other books).
The point of the matter is....honestly I really did like this book. That's why I continued to keep reading the other stories. Yes, I wish the love scenes had just a little more "umph" to them and I wish Kerry wouldn't say things like "oh, poo." I gave this four stars, mainly for the continuity issues....but it is a good read and I would recommend it to my friends.
