Présentation de l'éditeur

Meeting your soulmate? Great. Preventing your possible murder? Even better.

A Novella of the Elder Races

Alice Clark, a Wyr and schoolteacher, has had two friends murdered in as many days, and she’s just found the body of a third. She arrives at the scene only minutes before Gideon Riehl, a wolf Wyr and current detective in the Wyr Division of Violent Crime—and, as Alice oh-so-inconveniently recognizes at first sight, her mate.

But the sudden connection Riehl and Alice feel is complicated when the murders are linked to a serial killer who last struck seven years ago, killing seven people in seven days. They have just one night before the killer strikes again. And every sign points to Alice as the next victim.

Warning: This book contains a hot police detective, a violent murderer on the hunt, and a heroine that can blend in anywhere

HASH(0x9f5d621c) étoiles sur 5 Fun Novella Set In Elder Races World 23 mars 2012
Par Lulu - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
Really enjoyable novella in Thea Harrison's Elder Races series. I love visiting Harrison's alternate world with shape-shifting animals (the wyr), dark and light fae, vampires and other creatures set in present day.

Gideon Riehl, a wolf wyr, has retired from Wyr Lord Dragos Cuelebre's army where he was the alpha captain of Dragos' dogs of war. He is in the prime of life (at around 100 years old) and could have stayed decades longer in service but feels adrift, with a need for something new. He takes a position as a detective in the Wyr Division of Violent Crime in New York, where he reports to Dragos' sentinel Bayne. He is investigating a serial killer who preys on a particular type of wyr shifter (won't spoil which kind). This brings him into contact with 35 year old wyr Alice Clark, a school teacher and a potential victim. The villain of this story isn't too difficult to figure out and our killer is most definitely brought to justice by the end. The real fun in the story is the sweet relationship that quickly develops (they are wyr after all, they know when they find their mate) between Gideon and Alice. Gideon hasn't had much in the way of kindness or gentleness in his life and it's wonderful to see him so in awe of Alice and do his "hopscotch skip straight into the land of crazy" over her. Alice is very likeable as well: pretty, smart and capable. They make a great couple and their HEA was very satisfying. Harrison introduces a deck of tarot cards into the story that find their way into another of her Elder Races novellas Natural Evil, very, very loosely linking the stories.

What is particularly nice about this novella is that we get great new information on Elder Races culture, some of their winter solstice traditions through the Festival of the Masque and learn more about the Seven Primal Powers. Bayne has some nice scenes and we even catch a tiny bit of Dragos and Pia (from Dragon Bound (A Novel of the Elder Races)). All in all, a very entertaining read.

There is nothing like being completely pulled into a storyline that's so good that you just don't want to stop reading it. That is exactly what happened to me when I read True Colors and honestly I'm not surprised. I've been enjoying all of Thea Harrison's releases this year and this book was no exception. In True Colors we are introduced to 2 new characters who unfortunately meet due to a murder. When Alice first sees Gideon, she thinks he is the man who killed her friend. So she runs from him until she realizes that he is a cop. Gideon instantly wants to protect Alice and realizes that he feels different when he is around her. He's experiencing something that he's never felt before and takes it upon himself to protect Alice at all costs. He has a hard look to him that is enough to scare someone, but Alice sees through all the roughness to what he really is. Their scenes together are sweet and intense as they cannot hold back how they feel about one another. I don't want to give away anything because I found myself pleasantly surprised while reading this novella. I loved Gideon's natural protectiveness of Alice and how she allowed him to do what he thought was best. They were perfect for each other and enjoyed this novella so much!

I'm anxiously waiting for more to read in this awesome series by Thea Harrison. I love her full length novels and am now a fan of her novellas. I hope she will continue to write the novellas so her fans can be introduced to other characters that exist in this world. They may not be main characters, but their stories are just as interesting.

HASH(0x9dd71bf4) étoiles sur 5 An Elder Races novella to tide you over 24 janvier 2012
Par Elf2060 - Publié sur Amazon.com

An enjoyable appetizer to whet your appetite for the Wyr world.

"True Colors" by Thea Harrison is a novella set in her Elder Races world and introduces two new Wyr, Gideon Reihl and Alice Clark. Unfortunately, a serial killer has targeted Alice's friends and colleagues and detective Reihl is investigating the crimes and is determined to ensure that Alice is not the next victim. Alice is one of the rare Chameleon Wyr and her initial distrust of Gideon when she fears that he is a murderer is complicated by her immediate acknowledgement that he is her soul-mate. The two must work through their instinctive attraction to one another while racing against time to capture the serial killer who is inexplicably targeting one of the rarest type of Wyr, preferably before he kills again.

A thrilling but all too short look at the fascinating Wyr in a compact suspenseful read. A nice balance of danger and sensuality in both the story and its characters that gives a glimpse of the intricate and delicious world of the Elder races as it intersects with human society. There is a brief glimpse of the Lord of the Wyr, Dragos Cuelebre, who is featured in the first book in the series, "Dragon Bound" but this tale primarily functions to whet one's appetite for even more tales from the pen of this fantastic author.

HASH(0x9e41c7d4) étoiles sur 5 New view of the Elder Races universe. 12 janvier 2012

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy.

A short, sweet little novella to tide me over until the next full length Elder Races book comes out, TRUE COLORS emphasizes the "romance" in Paranormal Romance. Though we get a street level view of two Wyrs with normal jobs, and the introduction of a new, unexpected Wyr breed, the focus in TRUE COLORS is more a universal humanity of attraction rather than the Elder Races mythology.

This shift in focus is both good and bad. It makes TRUE COLORS an accessible story for any Paranormal Romance fan, and the references that tie in with previous Elder Races characters will tantalize rather than frustrate. On the other hand, accessible as this story is, I wouldn't consider this short story a strong example of the Harrison's usual nuanced writing for this series (and if I could retroactively change my ratings, I'd give DRAGON BOUND and SERPENT'S KISS 5 Bats each for pure re-read awesomeness, and leave STORM'S HEART and TRUE COLORS here at 4). TRUE COLORS is a sweet little romance that follows familiar themes. The attraction between Gideon and Alice is the instantaneous devotion of finding a true mate, and as they meet over a dead body during a murder investigation, there's plenty of male strength being juxtaposed over feminine fragility. Though the "feed the man dinner" and "warrior looking for a real home" tropes are obvious, they're also effective, and I found Gideon's happiness with Alice's domestic nest of an apartment endearing.

Though I'm thrilled to have this taste of the Elder Races, Alice and Gideon are self contained relationship, not the introduction of a couple to be further developed later. I am hungry for the complex mythology and drawn out relationships that Harrison writes so well, and this little morsel has only whetted my appetite for ORACLE'S MOON this March even more.

Sexual Content: Sex scenes.

HASH(0x9e1db21c) étoiles sur 5 Thea does it again, an excellent Novella. 7 janvier 2012

Thea Harrison does it again in this novella getting five stars. We meet Alice, a Rainbow Chameleon, a rare Wyr. She's a wonderful heroine, very much like a normal person compared to the three other books. She ends up finding her best friend dead when she went to visit, and smells a predator entering the house. In comes Gideon Riehl a wolf wyr, apart of the Wyr Division of Violent Crime. He knows someone is watching him but couldn't quiet place it. Alice flees thinking its the killer, that she also recognizes as her mate. She does find out that Gideon, is not the killer but a detective. She tries to deny herself that this is her mate, but Wyr mating over rules all other senses. The book is pulled together well, and pulls your emotions every which way with Alice. You understand her point of view as things happen so very fast. At the same time, you also fall in love with Gideon, he's a wolf, so you get a soldier boy who's put himself into a city. He's got the ruggish look of a rebel but a solider at heart. Yet, he's gentle and loving all at the same time it never dulls. This is also the time of the Winter solstice that the Elder Races celebrate. And their not too fair from the Masque when this happens. Which is a big event in the Elder Races eyes, everyone celebrates the beginning of life this way. There are a few gods that the Elders celebrate, which is neat to see who they follow and what they represent. You have Taliesen, Azrael, and Inanna. Three aspects, which is important to the book. The numbers 3, and 7 are mentioned and Alice is able to piece them together. I was very pleased with the end of this book and yet I wanted more. I can't wait to read Oracle's Moon, and Bayne's that seems be a hint that he'll be coming up soon.
