ok folks there are 2 versions of "here's to the atom bomb" 9 juillet 2005
Par Brandon Edge - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
there's this one (electric) and the one "on" machina 2 (acoustic and synth) which is the "alt" version. But the electric one that appears on this single (what the hell is "Dootone Masters"? lol, crazy amazon. Edit: ha, they fixed the title the day after i wrote this) is also on the Greatest Hits b-side/unreleased bonus disc (limited edition. i'm not sure what it's going for at the moment) and since the only reason to buy this single is for the b-side you might as well seek it out as there are other great songs you can only get on that release. I give this 1 star b/c like many SP releases it's just designed to rip off hardcore fans (like me)

Edit: If I wasn't clear enough, these songs are awesome, as does just about every official or unofficially released song by this great band. Billy is "reviving" the band soon so he said. Whatever that means I'm sure it'll be good.

One last note, download the live-only song "girl with the cruel face" by billy's post-sp band Zwan. Their best released song was a b-side, btw "freedom ain't what it used to be". Most of their best songs are from the shows they did in 2001 and 2002. Sucks but at least we're still getting new music. Didn't like The Future Embrace much though. Too lyrically plain and sonically the same throughout. Anyway i said too much. Rock on!@#$3!@#!@#

Here's To The Atom Bomb 24 octobre 2000
Par Victor Maceo - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
The single TRy Try TRy is a very good one. Track 1 (Tryx3) is a storytelling song with a great dramatic effect as applied to the lyrical content..This song expresses the reflective and retrospective nature of the human memory in a mind that has embraced the world at face value. While the struggle and trials of life may appear very bleak, the message is there...Try, Try Try.
Track 2 (Heres To The Atom Bomb) Goes along great with it's A side as it is the same story but with a hint of relaxing or settling into one's niche in life(We are the hole in the wall). Set to music reminiscent of the ever popular 1979, it carries the lyrics thru the extent of the song on what seems to be cruise control. Automatic beats set to the story of youth...such is life, such are the Smashing Pumpkins.

Excellent import single 8 novembre 2000

In my opinion, 'Try' is probably the best song off of Machina, it is the last ever single The Smashing Pumpkins will ever release. period.
Now the other reviews I have read are saying how HTTAB isn't up to par with other b-sides. True, and not true. This is a song that also appears on the Machina 2 album, however, THE VERSION ON THIS SINGLE IS DIFFERENT THAN THE ALBUM VERSION. It took me awhile to learn that before I bought it. The album version stinks. This version is 20x better. It has <gasp> guitar solos, and it is actually listenable.
While it's no 'Speed Kills' off of the SIYL import, it is worth the $10 to any real pumpkins fan.
Hope to see you at the UC show.

One of My Favorite SP B-sides 24 janvier 2001
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
If you haven't heard 'Try, Try, Try', it reminds me a lot of 1979 because it's really got that pop flavor and style. It's full of sugar and charm and poppy beats. That's why I can't stand this song. BUT, as a Pumpkin lover, I wanted the single. I was surprised to find that 'Here's to the Atom Bomb' is different from the Machina 2/Friends and Enemies of Modern Music, (which can be downloaded at [...] I despise despise despise the Machina 2 version. This version however, kicks my groove machine in. It's all about guitars, solos, and sounding like a Pumpkin song should. I put this song on repeat, whereas the Machina 2 makes me vomit on cue. I am so glad I bought this single.
ok that was not what its about 13 août 2003

Whoever wrote that review entitled "ok this is what its about" is wrong. That was what the music video was about, not the actual lyrics. In order to explain the song you have to understand that Billy Corgan thinks on a different level than all of us, and his lyrics are much more abstract than many think. Jonas Akerland (I think that's how you spell it) interpretted the song to have a certain meaning, and from that meaning he was able to put together a short stroy that focused on the lives of two junkies (who love each other) just trying to get by in life. (and there's no police in the video). As for this single, I don't know if it's quite worth buying. Try, Try, Try is on Machina (obviously) and Here's to the Atom Bomb in on Machina II which can be found for free on many different websites. The songs themselves, although, are excellent.
