His relentless campaign strains their marriage and Willa’s faith in him, until the General is killed. And George is arrested for murder…

Willa is determined to save the man who’s been her anchor for seventeen years. But does that man still exist? As Willa delves into her husband’s web of secrets, scandals, and political scheming, she’s forced to uncover George’s game. 3.0 étoiles sur 5 Interesting Legal Thriller 11 mai 2012

This story of a young judge determined to save her husband is tightly plotted and always interesting. The author writes in a self-assured, competent way that carries the reader over some poorly edited rough patches that will, no doubt, be corrected.

The first problem occurs at Loc 347 where "Presidents Lincoln, King, Ford, and Reagan..." is not a serious error, yet unfortunate where trust in the author is not yet established. A more serious error occurs in Chapter 3 which begins with the date January 20, 2000 and is soon followed by this sentence: "Since 9/11, that pro-military brand of patriotism had flourished". It was disturbing that Judge Willa referenced an event that would not occur for almost 20 more months.

In the second quarter of the book there are split words such as `reason able, put ting, pro vided' which break up the flow of the story. These instances diminish in the second half of the book.

Another minor quibble is with cultural references and slang used by 39-year-old Judge Willa that I would use but that my children, in their 40's, would never think to use and may not even understand.

The only disappointment with the writing, beyond the editing problems already described, occurred at the end when the author apparently didn't know how to tie up all the loose ends "on stage". A Prologue tells us how it all came out. I want to be shown what is happening, not told what happened.

Despite all this carping I was impressed with the author's facility for words and her obvious knowledge of the legal system. I do not bother reviewing or even finishing books by incompetent writers. I look forward to reading her future work.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Story, Horrid editing! 19 mai 2013

I loved the story of this thriller and would have given it 5 stars. However, the amount of editing mistakes is unforgivable. From missing words, words broken up, missing quote symbols, paragraphs not laid out and obvious wrong character names has brought my star rating down. There is no excuse for the extremely poor editing, if any was done at all!

Note to the author-you tell a great story, don't be lazy when it comes time to deliver that story. Double check the quotations, wording and character names in scenes.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 An extremely disappointing read. 26 août 2013

I read the first book in this series and was not impressed at all. Deciding to see if The author had grown at all, I gave Book Two a chance.

The writing is so derivative and cliched as to be painful. The author actually uses several sentences and paragraphs from the first book, quoting them almost verbatim.

Somewhere in the middle of this mindless maze, the author has one of the main characters go off on a purely partisan attack against the opposing party. She takes several opportunities to bash liberals, not matter what the cost to the story.

The book is replete with spelling and grammar errors. Sometimes the wrong word is used, always making it hard to focus on the flow of the story.

I can not comment on the ending as it would d be a spoiler. I can say that, out of the thousands of mysteries I have read in my life, this book far and away has the worst ending.

Please do not waste your money on this series. There are too many talented writers out there to waste time on this.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 I have never quit a book so early in my life 30 octobre 2013

I don't think I've ever quit a book half way through the second chapter, but I did this one. Maybe it was the fact I kept looking down at how much time was left in the book (over 8 hours), maybe it was the mind numbing dialogue, or maybe it was because my brain kept thinking "you know better than to take a book with less than 200 reviews!" All I know is that I stand before you now, the book discarded, ready to move on to the next, and I'm NOT sorry. Life is too short to waste reading a badly written, badly edited book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Love Judge Willa! 18 mars 2012

A good mystery, especially when it has a bit of legal suspense, hints to a great read to me. Ms. Capri does not disappoint.

Willa is a woman with an imperfect family, quirky friends and co-workers that can be trusted about as much as a slithering cottonmouth in a patch of kudzu. She has a wonderful relationship with her husband in which life would be perfect if they could just stay sequestered on their private island.

I loved the story and characters. The lesson on Supreme Court Justice nominations was very interesting and I learned much.

I do have to make mention of some formatting issues. There were words that had been broken up and lines that would begin with one word and then drop down to the next line after an indent for no reason. I have contacted the author and trust to hear back that this will be fixed.

I love this series and have to say that inspite of these issues, I enjoyed the story immensely.
