Excerpt from Chapter 16:

Countless articles on the internet describe texting situations between men and women. They provide examples of texting etiquette for dating. One advises, It's not okay if a man texts to ask for a date. But, a text telling you that he's running late is fine.

There are two problems with this advice. First, it fails to establish consistency in a relationship. Second, it is piecemeal and promises no specific result. It can be difficult to discern which moves will get the guy, and until now, there has been no system.

Consistency in your relationship yields significant benefits. If you respond to one text and not the other, a man can't understand your standards, much less your motives. When you establish patterns that make a man ask you in a certain way for dates, he will approach other relationship milestones with the same respect: exclusivity, long-term commitment, the marriage proposal.

This book is not written for any young woman who is immersed in the world of text communications.

For myself at 22, the whole world operates on cell phones. Simply saying not to text because a man will call seems very old school to me, where as everybody i've talked to at school - educated, smart individuals - prefer texting because everyone of us are busy and its the new, convenient way to communicate. You can either embrace the technology, or you can fight it while the world moves around you.

This book offers games, encourage lies and paints an unrealistic picture for those in my age group. At certain points, particularly when responses are offered for the rule to not text back, its offensive and degrading to women. Some advice offered being along the lines of, "I don't know how these silly things work" with reference to cell phones "not being able to text", and "I don't like texting, it will just chip my nail polish!" is shallow and unreal.

I simply wouldn't recommend this book.

I just couldn't do it. There are 32 chapters in this book, each one being relatively short 2-4 pages and then followed by a "power pop quiz" and a "power ponder" to test you on what you just read. I read about half the book and at that point was uttering "are you kidding me" so much I began heavily skimming the next 25% and the ultimately decided I couldn't finish. The chapters are entitled things like "Which texts should I ignore?" and "Can I accept a date via text?", all great questions that I have asked myself but the advice given is sometimes childish, sometimes unrealistic and sometimes contradicts what is later advised in the book. There are some bits that are useful which is why I gave it 2 stars, but that could be condensed down to about 10-15 pages. As a 33 year old that loves her IPhone I get that sexting someone you're not really dating isn't a good idea, and you shouldn't accept texts after certain hours or while at dinner, but that's all stuff parents have been preaching to their kids for a few years now. I think a much better book that gives you the premise of the "It girl factor" and playing hard to get is Why Men Love Bitches: From Doormat to Dreamgirl - A Woman's Guide to Holding Her Own in a Relationship.
I get that men love an elusive girl and it's a delicate dance to keep him interested but some of the advice in this book just goes against creating a foundation for a long term relationship; for example, the author suggests in Chapter 10 How to Stop Texting Once You Start to tell him "The keypad is to sensitive, you don't like squinting at the screen, you can't stand creative spelling..you don't want to chip your nail polish!" Seriously? But in Chapter 20 the first sentence states that responding to a voicemail with text is a great idea, since "less is more." That's just one example, there's more! Then there's all these one-offs and exceptions, it just gets ridiculous.

This was a light easy read that once I started was hard to put down. The rules for texting shared in this book can go along way for a new relationship or one that is already solidified. Considering technology today this is a must read for anyone wanting a healthy relationship!

After reading this awesome book it really shed light on issues not just about texting but other things I would personally do to ruin a relationship before it even starting and taking off successfully. Sometimes it could be little things for example not letting the guy make all the suggestions and trying to speed up the process by hinting and suggesting other things. He was suggesting drinks and I was suggesting dinner. I didn't realize until I read this book that you shouldn't do that! Also driving to a man ect....things I thought were harmless...no wonder I got stepped all over!!! The book covers what to do if you are already texting, how to put an end to it and take control. I really do believe that texting is soo casual and I find it so rude when a guy is only texting and not calling. This book will show you how to take control and put an end to all of that madness. Also how to let him lead. So if you are a "Rules" girl and you want to continue that in this modern day of age buy this book. I was in the middle of another book and decided to put that one aside so I can read this one because I was in a texting relationship and I wanted to be an end to it. Awesome book! Recommend to all you modern "rules" girls!! xoxo

If you find yourself dating, and need some help and advice, then dating books can't hurt. Especially not when they are short and only a few dollars. This book is less than a latte at Starbucks.

The premise of this book is to give us a modern day version of "The Rules" which includes whether or not to text. However, a lot of the advice in this book contradicts "The Rules" (a book by a different author), and even itself. In one section, the book tells you to have your phone on you at all times, and if the guy calls, answer the call regardless of what you are doing, even if you are IN A BUSINESS MEETING! What? This completely goes against "The Rules" about being elusive and only answering the phone some of the time and only returning calls on occassion. But the author states that your goal is to get the date, so that means you always have to answer when the guy calls.

I'm sorry, but I can't imagine ducking out of a meeting at work to try and set up a date with a guy. My boss would die laughing!

In regard to texting, she says you should NEVER text with a guy. If he asks for your number and sends you a test text, tell him you don't have your phone on you. If he then asks why you don't text back, tell him you don't have texting. But then she goes on to say if you are going to text, here's what you should do. So wait, if I shouldn't text with a guy, then why are you telling me how and when to text?

It's a good quick book, and for a few dollars it shouldn't hurt. But it's on the bottom of my list of favorite dating books. Why Men Love Bitches, Why Men Marry Bitches, and The Tao of Dating are GREAT books!
