Quatrième de couverture

What You Need to Make the Right Design Decisions vSphere is the most robust and sophisticated hypervisor product available today. It is the de facto standard for businesses, both large and small. This book—written for engineers and architects who plan, install, maintain, and optimize vSphere solutions—is the only one of its kind to concisely explain how to execute a successful vSphere architecture that's tailored to meet your company's needs. Expert authors share with you the factors that shape the design of a vSphere implementation. Which storage protocol is best for you? Should you build your vCenter as a virtual machine? Design your storage for capacity or for performance? This new updated edition reveals the design decisions that most companies face, explores the available options, discusses solutions—then helps you make the right choices. In addition to Datacenter Virtualization, this book also examines vCloud Director deployments. Packed with real-world proven strategies, it's the perfect guide for deploying a new design or transforming an existing one. Inside, you'll explore: The fundamentals of designing VMware environments The overall design process Key things to consider, such as server hardware selection and sizing, security, virtual machine templates, and more How networking and storage landscapes impact vSphere design Design decisions that a typical company encounters, taking into consideration availability, manageability, performance, recoverability, and security Designing VMware vCloud Director environments

3.0 étoiles sur 5 A very limited evolution 23 septembre 2013

The book is well written but is of very limited value if you own the previous edition. Some of the critical aspects from Vsphere 5.1 like SSO are barely mentioned, and the additional chapter on Vcloud is very generic.
A bit of a letdown...

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fantastic Book 9 juillet 2013
Par Jeff - Publié sur Amazon.com

I received a complimentary copy from a contest on Scott's blog and am approximately halfway finished with the book. It is amazing! The authors go into details of design practices that would appropriate for a consultant, architect, or an administrator wanting to learn more about vSphere design. Everyone can learn from their expertise.

The book is laid out in a way that you can skim to sections that are of particular interest, especially to fill in knowledge gaps. I'm currently reading from cover to cover to learn concepts of design. I especially appreciate how the authors include the considerations behind the best practices and why they may or may not be applicable in different environments.

I'm only halfway through the book, but have already picked up many great ideas/tips. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone considering or currently working with VMware vSphere. The price of this book pales in comparison to the level of knowledge and experience that it contains. Thanks Scott and Forbes for putting this amazing book together. Thanks guys!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Reading on VMware Design 4 mai 2013
Par Chris Wahl - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
It is quite difficult to guide readers through design by way of a book, as everyone has a unique use case, requirements, and constraints. The VMware vSphere Design book does a great job at walking the reader through what is necessary to identify various design elements and apply them for a virtual infrastructure. The technical content is deep enough to be useful for both architects and engineers, but also offer enough of a high level overview that it does not overwhelm those just getting started with vSphere design. I especially enjoyed the "bonus" section on VMware vCloud Director, as it is typically difficult to find content around this topic.

If you are working as a VMware administrator, engineer, architect, or consulting others, I would recommend grabbing this book for reference. It would also be a great way to study for the VCAP (VMware Certified Advanced Professional) exam on Data Center Design.
