Présentation de l'éditeur

Did Mårten Larsson want to be a vamp? Not so much. He wanted it as much as he asked to have a sissy circle over the å in his name. He just woke up dead one day with a piece of paper that said, “Dude, you’re a vampire. Drink some blood. Don’t suntan.” Luckily, another vampire finds Mårten and agrees to teach him how to live (well, not live, exactly) as a vampire. And so Mårten goes to Vamp Camp, where he has to survive without getting staked or baked, learn how to work with fangs and blood lust while spending time with his boyfriend, and employ his wicked wit as he masters the art and science of vampirism.

Vamp Camp

Vamp Camp is a new series of writings for Wynn Wagner. He does have one earlier work in the area of gay relationships, but this one is really hot and steamy. The lead character is from Texas and is serving in the Armed Forces during World War I. He's repeatedly accosted in the prison camps and then left to fend for himself as a newly-made Vampire. He becomes involved with a group of others who either are Vampires or who care for them. He shows his Viking background in his ability to track those who harm the ones he loves and cares for in his new life. He is also able to favorably impress the head of the Vampires in Europe with his skills and abilities along with his "true love'. This book is a definite read. Rumor has it there's another volume on t5he way to us.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fun read. Lots of sex. 19 décembre 2010

I thought this was an exceptionally fun book to read.

I have become enthralled with vampire fiction, beginning with Bram Stoker's Dracula and continuing through Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. This was a bit of a fluffy, fun, and gay version - with a fair amount of sex. I think the sex/romance scenes could be more sophisticated, but maybe that is just me.

I have read some of the other comments/reviews. I agree with them in that there could be more character development of the antagonist in this book. However, it reminds me of the Hannibal Lector character in 'Silence of the Lambs.' We didn't get a full view of him -- where he came from and why he was as he was before the pre-quell 'Hannibal Rising' came out.

I see many opportunities to develop these characters through their own story lines in other books. Overall, I say bravo to this fun and quick read!

The narrator/protagonist is a well thought out character. He's snarky and funny and matter-of-fact. I liked him instantly, and his cereal preoccupied mommy. He carries the story well. The steamy parts (somewhere between half and two thirds of the book) are...quite. The mushy parts are just brimming over with warm fuzzies. This is refreshing to me, to have romance without the standard romance novel formula where the couple has to start off at odds and bicker through most of the book. The happy couple in this story really are happy with each other, and the conflict is between them and the bad guys.

Speaking of bad guys, though, the main antagonist in this story leaves me scratching my head. I kept thinking there would be some explanation for why he did bizarre antisocial things, but then I reached the end of the book without finding one. He seems kinda like a cartoon villain, being evil just for the sake of being evil. And what about his followers? Why are they following him? I haven't the faintest idea.

Vamp Camp was very different than I was expecting. For one, there is no camp involved. Just a mansion where a master vampire resides. Second, it's historical! That was actually a bonus since I always wanted to read an LGBT Historical Romance. Although this is really more of a Paranormal Romance in a historical setting, but whatever. Mårten was in the US Navy during WWI and wound up as a prisoner-of-war. One of the guards turned him into a vampire and left him in the woods. Luckily, Metz finds Mårten and teaches him the ways of the vampires.

I kind of liked Vamp Camp, but for the most part I was bored. There is no plot whatsoever, but it's not like there was no plot because the focus was on the romance. The story is told by Mårten as a book. Like he acknowledges that he is writing his story and we are reading it. I do love second person POV, but for some reason the book awareness angle rarely works for me. But that wasn't really the problem. It was that it read more like a vampire instruction manual than as Mårten's thoughts on the subject. Every conversation with Metz was a lesson, so I wasn't quite as invested in the story as I could have been if they were doing something else.

The romance was sweet though. Mårten and his "donor" Oberon are super sappy and super in love and super all lover each other. I also thought it was cute how they gave each other language lessons, since Mårten speaks English and Oberon speaks German. However, they understand each other perfectly most of the time despite the language barrier. They also have lots of sexy times.

Vamp Camp was just okay for me. The lack of anything happening and the type of humor used didn't resonate with me. I'm not a fan of the repetitive line as a recurring joke thing. I find it annoying, and sadly it was used a lot. Something exciting does happen toward the end, but by then it was too late. While I did enjoy the romance, I don't think it's enough for me to continue the series.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 OMG I can't believe it !!! 5 mai 2010

OMG! Wow, I can't believe it... This is probably the best Gay Romance novel I've read in a very long time... and it has an incredible plot and massive collection of characters with special powers like that HBO show True Blood but with a massive gay male twist.

Ohhh and the Queen, she's one hell of a butt kicking broad that has got the kind of personality I used to date back in the old days. They don't make many folk like her anymore.

Compared to that lame TV "XXXXX's...Cove" show with the really bad acting, this thing would be awesome if they ever got it on the tube in the future. Wow..

The author does a great job of building a realistic fantasy plot with real emotion similar to those found in Harry Potter but sprinkled with some seriously hot and steamy romance opening the world up to many endless possibilities.

This is truly a 'must read' for all of you lover peeps out there! You won't regret it and I look forward to many more volumes/episodes like these to come in the future.
