The second recipe, Onion and Portobello Burgers, reads 2 Ener-G egg replacer; two what? The stuff comes in packs of 16 oz. It would be nice to know what the author had in mind -- two grains, teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, or packages?

Recipe # 3, Bean Burgers, lists 1 can black beans. What size? 15 oz, 19.75 oz, or 29 oz? Of course I could live with one messed up recipe, no one is infallible and mistakes just happen, but it goes on like this and gets even worse.

The next recipe, however, Carrot and Potato Patties, represents a welcome exception as the author troubles herself to write 1 cup canned black beans. My respect! Unfortunately, said burgers also contain 3 potatoes and one can only guess how much that means. Small, medium, large potatoes? Dear author, I hate to come across as nagging smart aleck, but there is something called ... tataa ... weight! Ever heard of the fact that you can weigh food?

Next one, Hot Black Bean Burgers, another undefined can of beans and 1 Ener-G egg replacer; see above, EnerG egg replacer comes as powder, so what? Here I began to doubt that the author had even bothered to try her own recipes. One mistake with egg replacer, okay. Two? What am I supposed to do with such unclear information?

Southwestern Cornmeal Vegan Burgers, here we have two cans black beans, quantity seems irrelevant.

Mushroom Burgers, 1 can pinto beans ... see above.

Grilled Chickpea Patties, 1 carrot, grated ... well, carrots come in all sizes, don't they? Of course I don't want to know length, diameter, and her mother's maiden name, but if it gets grated anyway it would be nice to define a quantity, like 1 cup or whatever the author had in mind.

The Tofu and Oat Burger Patties recipe repeats the highly informative one carrot specification and adds yet another enigma, namely 1 pack extra firm tofu. Nasoya Organic Cubed Super Firm Tofu weights 8 ounces per sales unit, Mori-Nu Extra Firm Silken Tofu 12.3 oz, Azumaya Firm Tofu 14 oz! Is it really irrelevant for a recipe if it contains 8 or 14 ounces of tofu?

The last recipe I read and will ever read before I delete this book, Onion and Tofu Patties, requires 1/2 pack extra firm tofu, mashed, and here I simply gave up because I cannot know what the author had in mind and I feel increasingly annoyed by recipes I cannot cook due to lack of clear information.

Not every person has decades of experience in cooking or would like to experiment, therefore recipes should be tested and contain precise quantities of ingredients.

Bottom line, this book is a complete waste. There are many better, i.e. precise, recipes free on the internet.

Vegan recipes often feature products such as soy that can be used as dairy substitutes. The core of recipes for both vegans and vegetarians are grains, fruits, and vegetables. There are many cookbooks and online resources that feature recipes showing innovative ways of using appropriate ingredients to create delicious meals for vegans and vegetarians. These burgers are based on less-processed grains and vegetables, and as a result, they’re generally healthier than soy burgers, even if the protein numbers aren’t as quite as high.

I have long wanted to change to a vegan diet and this book has been life changing. Some of the recipes are not that tasty for me because I was a meat eater back then, and I’m having a hard time adjusting to the taste of pure veggies. Although some recipes are a bit off-putting because I can’t decide for myself what the author wants to convey. But I got over it with just simple trial and error, and looking up the internet. I still recommend the book for those who love burgers and veggies. Great job for the author!

If you love burgers and wants a healthier option. I suggest you buy this book. The recipes here is not the common vegan burger recipes but very tasty. After trying the recipes you might not want to have the meat version of burger. Nice cookbook!

I was very skeptical. I am not a vegetarian myself, and neither is my family. I was simply looking for a way to serve my family something a few nights a week that was healthier. My boys are four and six and appear to be falling into the chicken nugget world of daycare and a busy mommy. With children things need to appear familiar, and these worked. It is an excellent way to get children the fiber and nutrients that so many are missing out on in this fast paced world of backseat dinners. I made the Vegan Burgers for my family. My boys didn't even notice. It was very enjoyable knowing I could have a healthy meal with my family without the argument that so many parents face at the dinner table. It was quite enjoyable for me as well; I intend to use examples from this book to try to better my own health as well. It is a must try for anyone, vegetarian or not, this book offers ideas that can be incorporated into any healthy diet plan.
