4.0 étoiles sur 5 Good little book... 17 mars 2013

...but as I live in Paris it didn't really tell me anything that I don't already know, and I can think of a few places which have opened recently and are not included, maybe it's time for a new edition? That said the vegan friendly entries are good to know and it's handy to have everything together in one place. I imagine that visiting vegans would find this very useful.

This ebook was so useful. I mapped out every location listed (unfortunately the book didn't include a map - the only con!) and carried my map with me everywhere I went during my 1 week stay in Paris. No matter what attractions we visited, I was quickly able to located a vegan dinning spot. The restaurant reviews were also very helpful; I was to ensure that every meal met our needs and likes. Being new to veganism, and traveling as a vegan for the first time could have been a huge challenge, but instead (thanks to Emily's blog and ebook) it was delightful!
2 restaurants need to be added:
1. Vegan Folie's
2. The Gentle Gourmet Café (no longer a b&b)

I love Paris, but with my novice French skills, I worry that I may be ordering four different internal organs instead of a lentil salad. This very well written book gives clear descriptions of a long list of vegan and vegetarian restaurants. (True, each location is not directly mapped but it's easy enough to do it yourself on Google maps and it does provide complete addresses and Metro stops.) The important thing is vegetarians and vegans have plenty of options in Paris and thanks to Vegan Paris we know exactly what they are, their price ranges, and if you'll have room for dessert. It's a bargain, too. Bon appetit!

You cannot find a better value than this inexpensive guide to Vegan/Vegetarian eateries in Paris. It is well researched and well written. Using the Kindle iPhone app, I was able to easily find places to eat during my October 2012 visit to Paris. Since we were staying in Hotel Le Notre Dame (1 Quai Saint-Michel, 75005), my favorite place was Le Grenier de Notre-Dame at 18 rue de la Bucherie 70005 which is just a street off Quai de Montebello (which is directly across the Seine from the Notre Dame). My favorite item on the menu was the Falafel; it is vegan, it is an appetizer, and it comes with enough salad (with vegan tzatziki) to make it a nice meal. I eat light (the Parisien way) and so it was a perfect evening meal accompanied with a glass of white wine.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Paris - a surprise vege paradise! 20 juin 2012

This book was really helpful for me finding places to eat while exploring Paris. I'm vegetarian, not vegan, so could often find food in regular restaurants, but it really is more exciting and better food (as well as, I find, a better atmosphere!) in vegetarian restaurants! And one can only have so much onion soup...

That said, I really don't do fake meat (or really highly processed soy/wheat gluten products), so actually, some of the vegan restaurants in here weren't for me. I'd also have appreciated if there was a better map system included in the little ebook, so that you could locate this restaurants more easily while on the go. I had to use google maps a lot. I'd still recommend it very highly to all vegetarians/vegans visiting Paris, and to all those who've discovered (or are about to discover) how awesome vege-only restaurants around the world are!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 well organized, not comprehensive, little help beyond restaurants 4 juillet 2014

PROS: The book is organized by arrondissements (think: big neighborhoods or zones in Paris), so no matter where you are in Paris, you can quickly go to that chapter from the table of contents to find a restaurant there. (NOTE: this feature only works on an actual Kindle. If you're using kindle reader on an iphone, etc. you can't do this, you'll have to scroll--bummer).

If you have not yet booked your accomodations, this could be helpful in assisting you where you might want to stay in Paris -- stay in an arrondissement with food options.

CONS: Some of the arrondissements have NO listings, or only one little one like a falafel stand.

There is little information about what to do for food outside of these establishments. While a handful of specialty markets are noted, the reality is almost every supermarket or mini market has an assortment of vegan yogurts (sojasun), vegan puddings (sojasun), even vegan "TV dinners" (plus grains, canned beans, rice cakes, fruits, vegetables, soy milks, rice milks, baugettes, bread, jam, and a variety of other foods) for the vegan traveler who can't afford or does not want to spend all of their time in Paris tracking around paris to go to a restaurant.

There is also no mention of the many restaurants, especially in touristy areas or hotels, that have vegetarian icons on their menu -- or even vegetarian plates of the day. While they are not always vegan, they often can be made vegan...

No info on whether it really is "offensive" to ask for substutitions (as the reputation goes) or if it would be better to say you have an allergy.

No helpful french phrases, no helpful lingos or words, or things to look for or look out for.

There are many awesome "Accidentally vegan" foods in France (chocolate covered rice cakes!) but unless you speak French, you couldn't read the label to know. A list of these, or even a list of brands (like for soymilk and almond milk) and where to find them in the store would be helpful for the reader.

Lastly, I found many vegan or veg-friendly restaurants by simply googling that were not in this book. Like Hank's all-vegan burger stand that should not be missed, even if you have to take 5 subway lines to get to it.

Hopefully the author will update or relase a more comprehensive second edition :D
